Evaluation:
Therefore, I can say that a human resource management is comprise of different roles
and responsibilities
A job may be defined as a "collection or aggregation of tasks, duties and responsibilities
which as a whole, is regarded as a regular assignment to individual employees." In other
words, total work is divided and grouped into packages; we call it a job. Each job has a
definite title based upon standardized trade specifications within a job. A position is a
"collection of tasks and responsibilities regularly assigned to one person"; while a job is a
"group of positions, which involve essentially the same duties, responsibilities, skill and
knowledge." A position consists of a particular set of duties assigned to an individual (Zaidi
and Lall, 2012).
How to Become a Human Resources Manager?
Candidates typically need a combination of education and several years of related work
experience to become a human resources manager. Although positions typically require a
bachelor’s degree, some require a master’s degree.
Human resources managers plan, coordinate, and direct the administrative functions of
an organization. They oversee the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of new staff; consult with
top executives on strategic planning; and serve as a link between an organization’s
management and its employees.
Duties Human resources managers typically do the following:
Plan and coordinate an organization’s workforce to best use employees’ talents
Link an organization’s management with its employees
Plan and oversee employee benefit programs
Serve as a consultant to advise other managers on human resources issues, such as
equal employment opportunity and sexual harassment
Coordinate and supervise the work of specialists and support staff
Oversee an organization’s recruitment, interview, selection, and hiring processes
Handle staffing issues, such as mediating disputes and directing disciplinary procedures
Organizations want to attract, motivate, and keep qualified employees and match them to
jobs for which they are well-suited.
resources department, including the compensation and benefits program and the training and
development program. In many larger organizations, these programs are directed by
specialized managers, such as compensation and benefits managers and training and
development managers.
As a social studies student I am train to be a civic competent person, embracing the
theories of social sciences and putting it into application is quite a challenge same as a
human resource manager. As I notice, most of the task of a human resource manager touch
our field of expertise. Most of the required skills of HRM are the same skills that I as social
studies should be equip with once I graduate. The career path of a social studies student is
not only limited to being a teacher because we can be a politician, social worker, social media
analysts, might proceed to law and even a human resource manager. As I take this course I
discover my potential, skills and capabilities not just only in the field of teaching but with other
specialization as well.
But as I introspect and analyze my course, being a teacher in the 21st century requires
a deeper level of understanding regarding this job. Given a chance to be a 21st century
teacher our students needs a 21st century ambiance and setting in the classroom. We are not
just a transmitter of knowledge we also manage the behavior of the students. Conflicts among
students are unavoidable, giving good and bad news are part of the teaching and learning
process, we need computer and communication skills in our everyday teaching. We manage
students of more than 100 students in a public school. Then, once we are promoted (from
Teacher 1 to head teacher ) our field of management widen also, we manage the teachers
also. If given the opportunity to be a principal I will manage the students, teachers and other
stakeholders. See, a teacher embrace some of the roles of a human resource manager. And
this is the type of job I am expecting.
