What exactly is mental illness
A mental illness is a brain disease that causes
problems with thought, actions, energy, or
emotion, making it difficult to cope with everyday
life demands.
The importance of mental health
awareness
Every year, mental disorders affect 19 percent of adults, 46
percent of adolescents, and 13 percent of children. People
suffering from mental illness can be members of your family,
live next door, teach your children, work in the next cubicle, or
sit in the same church pew as you.

Just half of those affected, however, undergo care, owing to

the stigma associated with mental illness.
What services do we offer?
Clinical psychology-

Clinical psychology is an integration of the science, theory and

clinical knowledge for the purpose of understanding, preventing,
and relieving psychologically-based distress or dysfunction and to
promote subjective and behavioral well-being and personal
development. Central to its practice are psychological assessment
and psychotherapy, although clinical psychologists also engage in
research, teaching, consultation, forensic testimony, and program
development and administration. In many countries, clinical
psychology is regulated as a health care profession.

Psychometric testing in kolkata
Sentence completion test:

Sentence completion tests require the subject complete sentence “stems” with their
own words. The subject’s response is considered to be a projection of their conscious
and/or unconscious attitudes, personality characteristics, motivations, and beliefs

Picture Arrangement Test:

Created by Silvan Tomkins, this psychological test consists of 25 sets of 3 pictures

which the subject must arrange into a sequence that they “feel makes the best sense”.
The reliability of this test has been disputed, however. For example, patients suffering
from schizophrenia have been found to score as more “normal” than patients with no
such mental disorders.

Word Association Test:

Word association testing is a technique developed by Carl Jung to explore complexes in the
personal unconscious. Jung came to recognize the existence of groups of thoughts, feelings,
memories, and perceptions, organized around a central theme, that he termed psychological
complexes. This discovery was related to his research into word association, a technique
Graphology:

Graphology is the pseudoscientific analysis of the physical

characteristics and patterns of handwriting purporting to be
able to identify the writer, indicating psychological state at the
time of writing, or evaluating personality characteristics.
Graphology has been controversial for more than a century.
Although supporters point to the anecdotal evidence of positive
testimonials as a reason to use it for personality evaluation,
most empirical studies fail to show the validity claimed by its
supporters.

IQ test in kolkata
An intelligence quotient (IQ) is a score derived from one of several standardized
tests designed to assess human intelligence. The abbreviation “IQ” was coined by
the psychologist William Stern for the German termintelligenz-quotient, his
term for a scoring method for intelligence tests he advocated in a 1912 book.
When current IQ tests are developed, the median raw score of the norming
sample is defined as IQ 100 and scores each standard deviation (SD) up or down
are defined as 15 IQ points greater or less, although this was not always so
historically. By this definition, approximately two-thirds of the population scores
between IQ 85 and IQ 115, and about 5 percent of the population scores above 125.

IQ scores have been shown to be associated with such factors as morbidity and
mortality, parental social status, and, to a substantial degree, biological parental IQ.
While the heritability of IQ has been investigated for nearly a century, there is still
debate about the significance of heritability estimatesand the mechanisms of
inheritance
