STAGE AIMS TREATMENT GUIDELINES


• Strengthening of knee • Low impact exercise eg. Walking, bike,
Prehabilitation musculature swimming
• Maintain or improve knee • Range of motion exercises eg lunges,
range of motion hamstring & calf stretches
• Familiarisation of • Strengthening exercises eg SLR, IRQ, SQ

Stage 1 • Postoperative pain relief & • Ice, elevation, analgesia, wound dressing
Acute Recovery Day 1- 5 wound care • Warfarin
• Swelling reduction • Mobilise full weight bearing as tolerated
• DVT prophylaxis progressing from a frame to crutches or a
• Early mobilisation from Day 1 walking stick by day 5
• Restoration of knee range of • Range of motion exercises eg heel slides,

Stage 2 • Continuation of postoperative • Continuation of warfarin & analgesic regime
