Caribbean History CSEC examination guide

The Caribbean history CXC is divided into three sections.


1. The first section is multiple choice. It includes the analysis of CORE areas of
study. These include ten broad areas of analysis that are compulsory.

1. The indigenous of the Americas (Pages 5-30)
2. The Europeans (Pages 37-60)
3. Economic Revolution and the coming of the Africans (Pages
69- 106)
4. Slave Resistance (Pages 113-144)
5. Emancipations and Apprenticeship (Pages 151-180)
6. Coming of the Chinese, Europeans, Indians, and Africans
(Pages 206-220)
7. The establishment of the Peasantry 1838-1900 (Pages 189-
208)
8. The USA’s influence in the Caribbean (BOOK TWO Pages 95-
126)
9. Popular protests (BOOK TWO pages 43-86)
10. Movements towards independence and regional integration up
to 1985 (BOOK TWO 131-188)

2. The second section is comprised of a short answer section. In our meeting we
decided to focus on the following themes:
a. Section A: Slave resistance and revolt
b. Section B: Adjustments to Emancipation 1838-1876
c. Section C: The USA in the Caribbean 1776-1985

3. SBA: in our meeting we decided that students should focus their research on
the three themes outlined in the second section.
