At the end of the week, you will learn to present a coherent, comprehensive

report on differing viewpoints on an issue

A report is a type of written text that contains essential information about a topic.
• Why do people write reports? What is its purpose?
People write reports to provide the reader/s essential information about a topic.
• How are the information arranged in a report? Or how is a report structured?
Generally, a report has three parts. It is structured in such a way that it has:
1. introduction;
2. body; and
3. conclusion

Study the discussion below:


How is each part of a report written? What information does each provide the reader? If you are
given the task to write a report about a social issue, what information should you provide in each
part?

THE INTRODUCTION
Here, the writer does 3 things:
1) State the topic
2) Define unfamiliar words
3) State the main idea
Here is an example. Suppose you decided to write a report about COVID 19. This is what an
introduction of that report should be like!

How is the body of a report written? What information does it provide the reader?
THE BODY
Here, the writer does 2 things:
1.He states details that support the main idea;
2.He states evidences or information to explain each detail.
Here is an example of a body of a report about COVID 19. This is what the body (BODY
PARAGRAPH) of that report should be like!

How is the conclusion of a report written? What information does it provide the reader?
CONCLUSION
Here, the writer does 3 things:
1)He re-states his main idea;
2)He summarizes his discussion in the body; and
3)He makes his final remark.

Out of school? Kids swimming in Pasig River ‘pretending’ to be home — senators

MANILA, Philippines — Senators were puzzled why children are out in the streets “pretending” to
be home when they are barred from attending face-to-face classes due to the pandemic.
At Wednesday’s hearing of the Senate committee on basic education, panel head Senator
Sherwin Gatchalian showed some photos of children swimming in Pasig River in Sta. Mesa without
observing social distancing.

“If our schools are not opened ganito po yung mga makikita natin [this is what we’re going to
see]. In fact, ngayon [now] they are not allowed to go out but without government guarding the
streets, they will be playing, talking to their friends, socializing,” Gatchalian said during the
hearing.
“Humans are social animals eh, and it’s very difficult to prevent them from enjoying Pasig River. So
better for them to go inside their schools and get education,” he added.
Senator Pia Cayetano also observed that even in rural areas, many children are “congregating”
outside their homes.
“That’s their everyday life now. So we’re like pretending that they are home, isolated, and
therefore cannot see their teachers, and cannot mingle in whatever way with their classmates,”
Cayetano said.
“But that’s not what’s happening. They’re mingling on the streets like I used to always see them
pre-Covid. Andun sila naglalakad together, bumibili ng ice cream kung may pambili, naglalaro
ng local basketball.”
(They are there walking together, buying ice cream if they have money, playing local basketball)
“That’s the reality. That’s what’s happening. So it’s ridiculous that we’re not intervening and
delivering education in a more efficient way,” she also said.
In her recent visit in an upland community in Benguet province, Cayetano noted the empty
schools there that could be used in face-to-face classes since there are only 32 students there.
“Aantayin pa natin ang August bago bumalik itong mga ‘to? I cannot understand that,”
Cayetano lamented.

At the start of the hearing, Senator Imee Marcos reiterated her full support for the resumption of
face-to-face classes.
Senator Nancy Binay, for her part, noted the seeming lack of “persuasive powers” of the
Department of Education (DepEd) to bring back students to schools.
“Parang kulang sa persuasive powers ang DepEd kasi tingnan nyo dapat papayagan na yung
mga kabataan natin na pumunta sa arcade center, pwde na silang pumunta sa mall kaya hindi
ko maintindihan pero hindi sila pwedeng bumalik sa classroom at a limited number of students.
Pero ngayon pwede na silang mag Boracay, pwede na silang mag Baguio,” she said.
(There is seeming lack of persuasive powers on the part of DepEd because the children would
have been allowed to go to arcade centers, to malls that’s why I don’t understand why they
could not go back to classroom at a limited number of students. But now they can go to
Boracay, to Baguio.)
Binay also lamented what she called a seeming “disconnect” on the government’s plan to allow
more children outside their homes while still keeping them out of schools.
“I think were all in agreement that there’s a need to start this face-to-face classes for our
students,” she later said

El Gamma Penumbra, Kampeon sa Asia’s Got Talent


Noong Mayo 7, 2015 ang pinakamahalagang araw sa grupo ng
mga kalahok sa patimpalak. Muli na namang ibinandila ng mga Pilipino
ang galing ng mga “Pinoy” ng tanghaling kampeon and “El Gamma
Penumbra”.Mula sa bayan ng Tanauan Batangas, nabuo ang
grupo ng mga kalalakihan noong 2010. Dahil sa napakarami ng grupo ng
hiphop dancers at maliit ang tsansa na sila ay manalo nagdesisyonang
grupo na magpokus sa shadow play.
Hindi naging madali sa grupo na makamit ang kanilang
tagumpay.Ang kanilang kahusayan at kasipagan sa napili nilang
larangan ang naging daan sa kanilang pangarap. Marami silang
mga kompetisyon na sinalihan at kaakibat nito ang maraming pagsubok sa kanilang
grupo.May mga pagkakataon din na sila ay hindi nananalo ngunit sa kabila ng lahat,buo ang
kanilang paniniwala sa kanilang ginagawa.
Sa ngayon ang El Gamma Penumbra ay bahagi ng kampanya ng turismo ng Pilipinas, ang “
Choose Philippines”.Ang kanilang mga mensahe patungkol sa kaguluhan, kalikasan
pagmamalaki bilang Pilipino at iba pa ay ibinabahagi nila sa bawat palabras na ginagawa
nila. Tunay nga na matagumpay at kilala na ang kanilang grupo, subalit sa kabila nito, hindi nila
nakakalimutang magpasalamat sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng mga donasyon lalo na sa

Si Maria Lea Carmen Imutan Salonga ay mas kilala bilang Lea


Salonga.
Ipinanganak siya noong 22 ng Pebrero 1971.Una siyang nakilala sa
The King and I ng RepertoryPhilippines noong siya’y pitong taong
gulang pa lamang. Sa edad na sampung taon, inirekord ni Lea
ang awiting Small Voice. Iyon ang naging simula ng kanyang
karera bilang isa sa mga sikat na aktres at mang-aawit sa Pilipinas.
Nagsimula ang kanyang katanyagan sa ibang bansa noong siya ang napiling gumanap
bilang Miss Saigon noong 1989. Nagtamo siya ng mga gantimpala mula sa mga
pinakarespetadong tagapaggawad ng parangal at itinanghal bilang kauna-unahang
Pilipina na nagkamit ng Laurence Olivier Award, Tony Award, Drama Desk, Outer Critics
Circle, at ang Theater World Award para sa natatangi niyang pagganap bilang Kim. Noong
1993, si Lea ay gumanap bilang Eponine, isang batang ulila sa Broadway production na Les

Kesz Valdez, International Peace Prize Awardee


Si Kesz Valdez ang kauna-unahang taga Timog-Silangang Asya na
tumanggap ng International Chldren Peace Prize Award. Mula sa
isang mahirap na pamilya, nakilala niya si Harnin Manalaysay na
nag-alaga at kumupkop sa kanya matapos siyang maaksidente
at masunog ang kamay.
Ngunit sa halip na panghinaan ng loob, nagsilbi itong inspirasyon
kay Kesz. Unti- unti ay naisakatuparan ni Kesz ang kaniyang mga
pangarap para sa mga katulad niya ring tumira sa lansangan at dumanas ng hirap.
Nang sumapit ang kanyang ika – pitong kaarawan, mas pinili niyang siya ay
magbigay.Tinawag niya ang kanyang proyekto na “Hope Gifts”.Ang laman ng kanyang mga
regalo ay mga gamit na panlinis sa katawan na makatutulong sa pag-iwas sa mga sakit .
Nangako rin si Kesz na ang kanyang napanalunan ay ibabahagi niya sa organisayong

Mahusay! Alam mo bang napakaimportante ng pagbabasa at pakikinig sapagkat ito ay


magdudulot ng sapat na impormasyon at sapat na kabatiran sa iyong paglago bilang isang
mamamayang Pilipino. Gayundin ay masasagot mo nang walang pag-aalinlangan ang mga
tanong na maaari mong marinig o kaya ay mabasa.

Madali nating masasagot ang mga tanong tungkol sa tekstong nabasa o napakinggan kung
uunawain natin o isusulat natin ang mahahalagang detalye na ating narinig o nabasa.
Mahalagang ikonsider ang mahahalagang detalye nakapaloob sa konteksto gaya ng lugar,
panahon, tauhan o karakter, at pangyayari. Gayundin, dapat na batid mo kung paano sagutin
ang mga tanong na ano, sino, saan, kalian, paano, bakit at iba pa.

Ang buod ay ang pinaiksing bersyon ng isang teksto. Pinipili lamang ang mga mahahalagang
ideya at datos. Nagtataglay rin ito ng mga magkakasunod na pangyayari.

Narito ang ilang mahahalagang hakbang sa pagbubuod ng tekstong napakinggan:


1.Pakinggan mong mabuti ang buong teksto.
2.Tukuyin mo ang pangunahing paksa.
3.Magsulat o magtala ng mga susing salita o keywords.
4.Pag-ugnayin ang mga mahahalagang ideya.
5.Isulat ang buod gamit ang sariling salita. Siguraduhing magkakasunod ang mga pangyayari o
maayos ang organisasyon ng teksto.

Ang tekstong argumentibo na naglalayon ding kumbisihin ang mambabasa ngunit


hindi lamang ito nakabatay sa opinyon o damdamin ng manunulat, batay ito sa
datos o impormasyong inilatag ng manunulat. Ang tekstong argumentatibo ay
isang uri ng teksto na ang pangunahing layunin ay makapaglahad ng katuwiran.
Sa tekstong ito, ang manunulat ay kailangang maipagtanggol ang kaniyang
posisyon sa paksa o isyung pinag-uusapan. Kinakailangang may matibay na
ebidensya ang manunulat upang mapatunayan ang katotohanan ng kaniyang
ipinaglalaban. Ang ilan sa mga ebidensya na pwede niyang gamitin ay sariling
karanasan, kasaysayan, kaugnay na mga literatura, at resulta ng empirikal na
pananaliksik.
Ang layunin ng argumento ay mabigyan ng ideya ang mga tao. Ginagamit rin Ito kapag
nangangatwiran ka. Kadalasang ginagamit ang argumento sa debate. Ito ay mabisang
panghihikayat at di mapasusubaling pagsisiwalat ng mga prinsipyo o
paninindigan. Sa tekstong argumentatibo, ang pangangatwiran ay nararapat na
maging malinaw at lohikal, kahit pa ang layunin lamang nito ay magpahayag
ng opinyon sa isang tiyak na isyu o usapin.

Isang paraan upang makapagsulat ng isang epektibong talata ay ang paggawa


ng balangkas. Ang balangkas ay isang maayos at sunud-sunod na banghay o
buod na naglalahad ng mahahalagang paksa, kaisipan pangyayari o detalye
mula sa hinihinging impormasyon. Mayroon itong pangunahing kaisipan o diwa
at mga sumusuportang detalye.

Ngayon ay ipabasa sa sinumang kasama sa bahay ang kuwentong pinamagatang, Si Ging-
Ging Palahingi, na matatagpuan sa pahina 148-150 ng aklat na Alab Filipino 6. Pakinggan itong

ang bawat mag-aaral, mahirap man o mayaman? Bakit? Gamit ang limang pangungusap,
isulat mo ang iyong argumento sa ibaba.

Ipabasa sa sinumang kasama sa bahay ang teksto. Pakinggan itong mabuti at unawain.
Pagkatapos, sagutan ang mga gawain sa ibaba.
Ang bagyo ay isang malakas na malakas na ulan na may kasamang
matinding hangin na mabilis na mabilis ang pag-ikot. Tulad ito ng isang
napakalaking kono ng sinulid na sadyang nakapangangamba kung ito ay
tatama sa kalupaan. May pagkakatulad ito sa buhawi na binubuo ng
mapanganib na ipui-po. Ngunit mas mapanganib ang bagyo sapagkat ito
ay mas malaki at mas malakas. Umaabot ang ang sukat ng diyametro nito
ng ilang daang milya, samantalang ang diyametro ng buhawi ay iilang dipa
lamang. Sa pinakasentro ng bagyo ay may isang tahimik na bahagi na
tinatawag na mata. Sa mata ng bagyo umiikot ang pinakamatinding
hanging kasama ng bagyo.
Tinatawag naman ng mga Tagalog na siyam-siyam ang isang tuloy-tuloy
na pag-ulan, samantalanag tinatawag naman ito ng mga weathermen na monsoon rain mula sa Arabic na
mausim na nangangahulugang season. Itinuturing na panahon ng tag-ulan sa Pilipinas ang buwan ng Mayo
hanggang Setyembre. Halos 20 bagyo ang dumarating sa Pilipinas taon taon.

Matapos mong basahin ang ulat, ngayon ay sagutin mo ang mga sumusunod na tanong.

MGA SULIRANIN NG REPUBLIKA


Pagbagsak ng Ekonomiya
Malaking pinsala ang idinulot ng digmaan sa bansa. Libo-libong buhay ang nawala at
maraming ari-arian ang nasira, kasama na rito ang mga hayop na katulong sa pagsasaka,
industriya, pabrika at bahay-kalakal. Lumaganap ang kahirapan dahil sa kawalan ng
hanapbuhay ng mga mamamayan. Hindi magamit ang mga pasilidad sa transportasyon
tulad ng mga lansangan, tulay, at sasakyang pandagat at panghimpapawid. Nasira rin ang
mga patubig at sakahan. Bunga nito, humina ang produksiyon ng bansa at nagkulang sa
pagkain. Napabayaan ang pagluluwas ng mga produkto na nagbunga ng kakapusan sa
pananalapi ng pamahalaan.
Malaking suliranin ng pamahalaan ang muling pagpapaunlad ng kabuhayan. Pinatatag
nito ang agrikultura, kalakalan, at industriya bilang unang hakbang sa pagbangon ng
ekonomiya. Inuna ang pagpapagawa at pagkukumpuni ng mga lansangan at tulay sa mga
proyektong pang-imprastraktura. Lumikha rin ng mga hanapbuhay ang pamahalaan upang
magkaroon ng pagkakakitaan ang mga tao.

Kapayapaan at Kaayusan
Suliranin din ang kapayapaan at kaayusan sa bansa pagkatapos ng digmaan. Dahil sa
kakulangan ng mga trabahong maaaring pasukan at pagkaabalahan, natuon ang pansin ng
nakararami sa mas madaling paraan upang magkapera. Lumaganap ang nakawan at hold-
up sa mga lungsod, bayan, at maging sa mga lalawigan. Dahil dito, nanganib ang buhay at
ari-arian ng mga mamamayan sa masasamang elemento ng lipunan.
Higit na nagpalubha sa kalagayan ng bansa ang suliranin sa pagsasaka. Nagpatuloy
ang kawalan ng gana ng mga magsasaka laban sa mayayamang hacendero. Marami sa
mga ito ang naging Huk o kasapi ng Hukbo ng Bayan Laban sa Hapon o Hukbalahap.
Nagsimula ang Hukbalahap bilang samahang gerilya noong panahon ng mga
Hapones. Pagkatapos ng digmaan, tumanggi ang mga Huk na isuko ang kanilang mga
sandata nang hindi ipagkaloob ng pamahalaan ang kanilang kahilingan sa repormang
pansakahan.
Komunismo-sosyalismo and ideolohiya ng mga Huk. Layunin nila na pabagsakin ang
pamahalaan. Lumaban sila sa pamahalaan at inakit ang mga hindi nasisiyahang
magsasaka na umanib sa kanila. Maraming magsasaka ang sumali, lalo na sa Gitnang
Luzon, na naging sentro ng pakikibaka ng samahan.

Suliraning Panlipunan
Matinding hirap at pagdurusa ang naging epekto ng nagdaang digmaan sa
Pilipinas. Kapos sa pagkain ang mga mamamayan, lalo na sa mga lugar na sentro ng
labanan. Nanirahan ang marami sa dikit-dikit at sira-sirang mga bahay at gusali. Buy-and-
sell ng anumang bagay ang naging pangunahing hanapbuhay ng mga mamamayan sa
panahong ito. Dahil sa kakulanngan ng paninda at salapi, tumaas ang halaga ng mga
bilihin.
Dahil sa kawalan ng katiyakan sa buhay, nalimot ng marami ang kagandahang asal
at pamantayang moral ng lipunan. Nawalan ng tiwala ang mga tao sa isa’t isa.
Lumaganap ang katiwalian. Ginamit ng mga opisyal ng pamahalaan ang kanilang
kapangyarihan sa pagpapayaman at nagkaroon ng pandaraya at suhulan sa
pamahalaan.

Kakapusan ng Pananalapi
Pagkatapos ng digmaan, dumanas ng krisis sa pananalapi ang pamahalaan.
Kakaunti lamang ang natirang salapi sa kaban ng bayan. Nahirapang makalikom ng
buwis ang pamahalaan sapagkat walang hanapbuhay ang karamihan sa mga
mamamayan. Natigil din ang pakikipagkalakalan sa ibang bansa dahil nahinto ang
produksiyon ng mga pangunahing produkto tulad ng palay, asukal, at niyog.

We can see rectangles from the picture of the bed, triangles from the toy traffic cone and

represented by a square.

Let us differentiate plane figures and solid figures. Observe these examples below:

Observe that pictures from the left side are flat. These figures have no thickness. These are
called two-dimensional shapes or plane figures because it only has the length and the width.
It can be composed of a straight line, curved line, or both straight and curved lines.

The pictures on the right side are figures which do not line flat on a plane. Space figures are
often referred to as solids. These solid figures have three dimensions: length, width and height
or thickness. The flat surfaces of a solid figure are its faces. Remember that solid figures have
polygons as faces. The base is the face on which the figure rests. The edge of a solid figure is
the line segment where two faces meet. A vertex (plural: vertices) is the corner that is formed
where the ends of the line segments of two or more faces meet. Specifically, you can observe
the numbers of faces, edges, and vertices, as well as the shape of the base.

In this lesson, you will learn that gravitation and frictional forces affect the

movements of different objects. You will understand also that gravity and
friction are always present and have big influence in the activities that you
do and in the things that you use. These forces are naturally occurring.

Gravity and friction work in your daily life. Both gravity and friction are
kinds of forces. Gravity keeps everything on Earth firmly on the ground
while friction is a force that resists the movement of an object sliding
against another. Frictional force keeps cars from slipping off roads and
helps certain machineries function properly.

Have you ever tried going down a slide like what the boy is doing on the
illustration below
Slides can be on a pool or a playground, you may have
observed that the more upright the slide is, the faster you
fall downwards. The downward force pulling on you
towards the ground when you slide is referred to as gravity.
The slide’s smoothness or wetness also adds speed when
going down. When force between two objects in contact
with each other, like the clothes you are wearing rubbing
against the slide, is an example of friction. It takes place
when two objects rub against each other.
Gravity and friction also affect every activity that you do, from walking to running, going up
and down the stairs, and even when sleeping or just standing on the ground. You naturally
encounter gravity and friction and these help us with our daily life.
When you throw stone upward, the stone will fall down. This is because the Earth is using a strong
attractive force on the stone you have thrown that is called gravity. Without gravity, things will
float on Earth’s surface.

Looking back at the illustration above with the boy playing on the slide, friction unlike gravity is
a force that acts between two bodies that are in contact with each other. In this case, the boy’s
clothes in contact with the slide produce the force called friction.
Take for example whenever you comb your hair, friction takes place as you rub
your hair using the comb. Friction happens not just between the comb and your
hair strands, but also between the comb and your fingers holding the comb.
Friction keeps the comb stays in your hands. It helps you in doing the combing of
your hair.

1. Ask your family members to tightly hold the corners of a large tablecloth or sheet.
2. Place a heavy object such as a stone in the center of the cloth. This makes the center of
the cloth bend downward.
3. Roll a marble so that it spirals around the stone. Observe what happened.
4. Change the speed and the initial angle of the marble as you roll the marble on the cloth.
Record what you have observed.
5. Replace the heavy stone with a lighter stone in the center
of the tablecloth and roll the marble again. Observe the movement
of the object compared with the previous observations.
6. Replace the marble with other round objects like table tennis
ball, small ball bearing and the like. Observe the movement

There are various diseases that affect thousands of
people around the world especially those living in
poor environmental conditions. Around the world, the
most affected are young children who have no proper
knowledge and skills to practice personal health care
and hygiene. This can be preventive and controlled if
children around the world will be taught proper
environmental sanitation and hygienic practices, and
if they will be made aware of the effects of poor
sanitation practices.
Let us look on the picture below. Does it show
proper environmental sanitation? How will this kind of
environment affect the health of the people? What
possible diseases can you acquire with this kind of
environment?

Due to poor environmental sanitation, it may cause the following diseases and disorders:
● Respiratory Diseases – air pollution is a big problem especially in highly-urbanized and
industrialized areas. This can cause respiratory ailments such as common cold, cough,
influenza, tuberculosis, and asthma.
● Skin Diseases – the skin is the largest organ of the body and serves as the first line of body
protection against diseases. There are several skin diseases, and most are caused by
bacteria, virus, and fungi. Some of the common skin diseases in the Philippines are white
spot, ringworm infection, and boil.
● Gastrointestinal Diseases – most gastrointestinal illnesses are related to food and water
sanitation. Contaminated water sources can cause an entire community to be afflicted with
one or any diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, amoebiasis, hepatitis A, typhoid fever,
intestinal parasitic worm infections, schistosomiasis, and pinworm infection.
● Neurological Impairments (Heavy Metal Poisoning)- are diseases that affect the brain and
are often chemical-related disorders. People become afflicted by ingesting contaminated
food or water. Areas near factories are susceptible to these diseases especially if no
safeguards are taken to prevent dumping of chemical wastes to water systems. Common
heavy metal poisonings are arsenic, mercury, and lead.
