INTRODUCTION

1. Features and Specification

Network controlled switching device aims to solve problems of absent-

mindedness, overheating and too much consumption of energy when people forgot to

turn off their appliances. This project uses a single application that helps the user when

they left their appliances on at home. Appliances can be turn on and off through

Smartphone.

People tend to forgot turning off their home appliances when they're on a rush.

They worry about being late and just focus on how to get ready quickly then absent

mindedness occurs.

In that situation, when people forget to turn off their electrical appliances and rush

towards their destination. As an effect, users consume a lot of energy and it may also

cause overheating of appliances.

2. Market Trends and Opportunities

Appliances are most commonly left turned on. Consumption of energy and

overheating of appliances may cause a lot of trouble. Technology has evolved and
transformed some of the many things we do in a more convenient and safer alternative.

Smartphones has been used every now and then by almost everyone. It helps us to easily

communicate and it reduces the burden of work. Smartphone also benefits our switching

device. Smart switches help people to conveniently turn on/off an appliance.

The convergence of communication and computing for mobile consumer devices is

on the evolutionary course to bring interoperability and leverage the services and

functions from each and every industry. In this process of convergence the Smartphone‘s

are the leading devices taking the front end and playing the role of universal

mobile terminal. As a marketing strategy the Smartphone term was introduced in

the market, referring a new class of mobile phones that provides integrated services from

communication, computing and mobile sectors including voice communication,

messaging, personal information management (PIM) applications and wireless

communication capability .The Smartphone are equipped with the capabilities to

display photos, play games, play videos, navigation, built-in camera, audio/video

playback and recording, send/receive e-mail, built in apps for social web sites and

surf the Web, wireless Internet and much more.(Mishra Manju, 2017)

A smart light switch not only lets you turn the light on and off using the switch itself,

but also works remotely via Bluetooth LE wireless networking, so you can control your

lights using your smartphone or other mobile device. The switch should also know its

current status — in other words, whether the bulb is on or off — and send a notification

over Bluetooth to subscribed apps whenever the switch is toggled, so they can update

their local status too.(Alasdair Allan, SandeepMistry and Don Coleman,2016)

Network Controlled Switching Device is a great advantage. One is, you will be able

to turn off your appliance if you left it at home. It will lessen the users worry about

consuming too much energy.

Another advantage of Network Controlled Switching device is that you are able to

turn it off even you’re far from your home. It will be more convenient because you no

longer to go back to your house to turn it off.

This device is expected to be able to turn off/on an appliance in various distances. It

will be relevant to the convenience of people using technology. It also aims to be

beneficial to all, especially to people who experience absent-mindedness.

3. Statement of the Problem

Generally, this study aims to create a Network Controlled Device that

is able to switch on/off electrical appliances.

Specifically, the study sought to answer the following questions:

1. How effective is the Network Controlled Switching Device in terms of:

a. Distance from the Smartphone

b. Statement of the Hypotheses

The current study was guided by the following hypotheses:

1 The Network Controlled Switching Device is not capable of switching electrical

appliances in various distances.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

1. Materials

The materials that are needed are Wi-Fi module, Solid State Relay 2A 240V ,3.3V

600mA AC-DC step down module, Push Button switch, NPN Transistor TO-92 2N2222 ,

1000uF electrolytic capacitor, resistor(1K, 47K),Software (Arduino IDE) and bulb.

2. Methods

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

FIGURE 1.The table shows about the result from the different distance of the

Smartphone from the device.

Trials Distance (m) Comment

1 5 Working

2 10 Working

3 25 Working

The table shows the result of the trials conducted by the researchers. Based on the results,

Trial 1 was tested in 5 meters and still the device was working. Trial 2 was tested in 10

meters and still the device was still working and lastly Trial 3, this was tested in 25

meters and still it was working.

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATION

Conclusions

The researchers concluded that the connectivity of the device and the Smartphone

was still present even it was tested in various distances.

Recommendation

However, based on the conclusion from the results, the following are set of

recommendation. Test the device in farther distances, try it’s compatibility in various

appliances in the house aside from light-bulb.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We would like to thank God who guided us all the time. We thank him for the

knowledge he gave to us to finish our study and took us away from danger while doing

the study. He taught us to be strong every time we felt down.

We would also like to thank our families, Mr. and Mrs. Dollano, Mr. and Mrs.

Escabusa and Mr. and Mrs. Lingafor supporting us all the time we need them.

Especially Mr. Roy Dollano, who help us to create the device and the app we need in our

study.

We also want to thanks our research adviser, Mrs. Ludvinia M. Janda for

understanding and giving us the patience while doing the study.

We also want to give thanks to Mrs.Mary Jane M. Apostol for giving us

motivation and endless support.
