 Why to translate in SDL Trados (and not in Word)

Benefits of SDL Trados

⮚ Because SDL Trados knows much more about translation than any word
processor.
⮚ SDL Trados remembers earlier translations: it can recognize if something
was already translated, and dig up the translation from the past.
⮚ SDL Trados can read and save documents that you cannot work with
otherwise: you don’t have to be an expert in editing web pages or desktop
publishing – you can still translate web pages or complex documents that
come from sophisticated programs like InDesign or FrameMaker.
⮚ SDL Trados can work from your previous documents: if you have a
document and its translation, SDL Trados can pair them and recycle the
translation when a similar document comes along.
⮚ SDL Trados can hold your glossaries: you can build glossaries of terms –
and when you’re translating, SDL Trados will highlight the terms it
recognizes, and insert their translations.
⮚ SDL Trados connects you to your peers: you can work with others on the
same job – for example, your client may have a task for you on their
server. You can directly connect to this server, and receive, work on, and
deliver the job without sending e-mails.

Finalize:
Update main translation memories and generate target translations for files.

Analyzes files:
Analyzes files against the translation memory, producing statistics on the
leverage to be expected during translation. This task works with the main
translation memories if available.

Export Files:
Exports the latest version of the files and optionally generates native target
files to a specific location.

Generate Target Translations:

Generates the target translations of the files in their native file format.

Apply PerfectMatch:
Apply PerfectMatch using previously translated bilingual documents.

Populates project translation memories:

Populates the project translation memories using content from the main
translation memories relevant for the specified files.

 Batch Tasks (2/3)

Pseudo-translate:
A dummy translation to test your translation process.
This enables you to simulate how a translated file will look after translation and
how much extra engineering work will be required before actual translation is
done

Update from reviewed Target File (retrofit)

Updates the *.sdlxliff files with the changes made to the target documents during
review. After the changes are imported, you can review the updates in the Editor
view using tracked changes. Optionally you can also check and correct the
retrofit results in Alignment view before

Export for bilingual review:

Exports your file to a bilingual review format which can then be sent to an
external reviewer who does not have SDL Trados Studio installed.

Update from bilingual review:

Imports changes from a bilingual review document or a regulator review target
document that had been previously sent out for external review.

Pretranslate files:
Applies the translation from the selected translation sources to the files. This task
uses the main translation memories if available.

Translation count:
Counts the number of words translated in the files. www.wearabize.com

Verify files:
Verify the contents of translatable files.

Word Count:
Counts the number of words occurring in the files.

WIP report:
Generate the Work in Progress (WIP) report to track the status of the project.
The report contains data on what work has been done for each confirmation level
and what work is required going forward.
