The original song "Put Your Records On" by Corinne Rae and the remix of it done by
Ritt Momney are the same lyrics with two totally separate meanings, as one song is about
women being confident in their own skin and the other is about people being comfortable enough
to live how they want to. The songs both are trying to make the audience feel and do something,
while both versions have a different meaning. The same song just sung and performed
differently changed a lot about the overall story and claim in several different ways.
In the original song by Corinne Bailey Rae titled “Put Your Records On” made in 2006,
the main claim is for women to feel comfortable in their own skin. The song is very upbeat and
happy as it makes the listener feel like the singer had a breakthrough of realization. Throughout
the video, the singer and multiple other women are riding on bicycles through a park and the
singer is also located in an open field. This setting could possibly go back to the initial meaning
of the video and is a way of making the women seem free and happy. This is also supported by
the object held by the singer throughout the video, a hair ribbon. In her song she tells girls to let
their hair down and she is holding the hair tie that is meant to hold it up. She is showing that she
herself is being comfortable in her natural state, comfortable in her own skin, and “letting her
hair down.” So her reasoning provided in the video was her showing that she learned to be
comfortable with her natural hair, providing a personal connection and experience to the message
she was trying to spread. The video and message of the entire song seems to be made for an
audience of young girls who feel like they need to alter their natural state to be beautiful because
in an early age is usually when women start to feel the pressure of needing to meet society’s
standards.

In the remixed version of the song “Put Your Records On” by Ritt Momney made in
2020, he takes the song into a different perspective. In this version of the song, the singer makes
the beat of the song way slower changing the tone entirely. He seems to try to make the claim
that people can live in their own reality and be who they want to be even if it is weird to other
people. The main characters were the singer and a little boy, and the singer was in some form of
alternation of reality with tons of slower metals raining from the sky while the little boy is just in
his backyard’s garden. This helps add to the story being told as it makes it seem like the singer
grew into who he is today and living in his own imagination regardless of it being different.
Like possibly it was flashing back to when he was a kid and only seen the world for what it is.
The main meaning seems to be that it is okay to be yourself and think differently from everyone
else, just like how the singer was doing. The audience seems like it would be for people who
The ways these videos seem to have a similar idea is how they both are trying to make
the audience feel some type of way and change something about themselves, like their self
esteem and confidence. In the original video, Rae tries to speak to little girls telling them that
they are beautiful in their own natural form. While Money is speaking to people who aren’t
comfortable enough being themselves and makes it seem like it is okay to buy him acting most
confident and comfortable. They are both meant to make the audience feel some type of way
and chance themselves for the better, just in two different ways. They also both provide a first
hand experience as evidence and reasoning for the audience to rely on.
The same song with the same lyrics just performed differently and sang at a different tone
can really change the meaning entirely. Both performers successfully got their meaning across
in a visual way throughout their videos as well as using their tone of voice in a certain way. In

the two videos the same appeal is used throughout, ethos. Using first hand experiences to prove
to the audience they are happy now that they are doing what they are preaching in their videos.
