Alternative energy sources

Alternative energy sources are environmentally friendly, renewable resources,

during the transformation of which, a person receives electrical and thermal energy
used for his needs. These sources include the energy of the wind and the sun, the
waters of rivers and seas, the heat of the earth's surface, as well as biofuels
obtained from the biological mass of animal and plant origin.

Types of alternative energy Depending on the source of energy, which, as a result

of transformation, allows a person to receive electrical and thermal energy used in
everyday life, alternative energy is classified into several types that determine the
methods of its generation and types of installations that serve for this. Energy from
the sun Solar energy is based on the conversion of energy from the sun, resulting in
electrical and thermal energy.

Receiving electrical energy is based on the physical processes occurring in

semiconductors under the influence of sunlight, obtaining heat - on the properties
of liquids and gases. To generate electrical energy, solar power plants are
completed, which are based on solar batteries (panels) made on the basis of silicon
crystals. The basis of thermal installations is solar collectors, in which the energy
of the sun is converted into thermal energy of the coolant. The capacity of such
installations depends on the number and capacity of individual devices that make
up thermal and solar power plants. Wind energy Wind energy is based on
converting the kinetic energy of air masses into electrical energy used by
consumers.

The basis of wind turbines is a wind generator. Wind generators differ in technical
parameters, overall dimensions and design: with horizontal and vertical axis of
rotation, different types and number of blades, as well as in their location (land,
sea, etc.). The power of water Hydropower is based on the transformation of the
kinetic energy of water masses into electrical energy, which is also used by
humans for their own purposes. Objects of this type include hydroelectric power
plants of various capacities installed on rivers and other water bodies. In such
installations, under the influence of the natural flow of water, or by creating a dam,
water acts on the blades of a turbine that generates an electric current. The hydro
turbine is the backbone of hydroelectric power plants.

Pros and cons of use As with any particular energy source, no matter what type it
belongs to, traditional or alternative, there are specific advantages and
disadvantages of use.

In addition, each group of energy resources has common pros and cons. For
alternative sources, these include:

The advantages of using are:

Renewability of alternative energy sources;

Environmental Safety;

Availability and use in a wide range of applications;

Low cost of energy obtained as a result of conversion.

Cons of use:

High cost of equipment and significant material costs at the stages of construction
and installation;

Low efficiency of installations;

Dependence on external factors, such as: weather conditions, wind strength, etc .;
Relatively small installed capacity of generating plants, with the exception of
hydroelectric power plants.

I believe that alternative energy sources are our future.
