GENERAL POWDERS
Product Info
At Elmbridge we stock, distribute and specify powders for many applications.
Powders are mainly broken down in to three generic types as follows:
Epoxy Epoxy Powders offer a high degree of surface hardness, wear and
tear as well as excellent resistance to solvents and chemicals. Epoxy based
powders are not recommended for outdoor use when colour and gloss
durability are required. Typical applications for these types of powders would
be indoor machinery, pipe lines, indoor work equipment such as trolleys, stands
and racking.
All powders are available in virtually any colour and gloss level. Please call
for availability.
These different types of powders are cured at similar temperatures and time as
follows:
Hammer Finish
A finish often associated with the Wet Paint industry. This same effect can be
reproduced in a powder and is commonly used in the agricultural industry.
Available in a limited range of colours.
Antique Range
Powder is now being required for making things look old. We have a range of
www.elmbridgesuppliesuk.com
powders, commonly used in the ornamental and interior finishes industry such
as in the manufacturing of curtain poles, tables and chairs etc. Effects would
include: - Copper, Bronze, Pewter, Gold, Silver. Call today for your sample panel.
Chrome Finish
With ‘mirror type’ finishes required now we have a Chrome powder in our range.
This effect is getting used in the automotive industry for wheels, wing mirrors to
the Interior furnishers industry for mirrors. Call today for your sample panel.
Clear Lacquers
Powders are now available in a clear finish. This is only available a Polyester.
Can be used either over bare metal to give that dramatic effect or over
previously powdered finish to give a ‘glass’ type effect. Using a lacquer will also
increase the UV protection of the finish. Available in different gloss levels.

Surface Preparation Typical Paint System
For optimal adhesion to the substrate, we recommend the use of a First coat of AML7613/13 and then AZ97
waterborne protective wood stain as a first coat. AM0402/13 is to be applied
by spray on door and window frames already coated with other Hydroplus
waterborne wood stains, such as AM0541, and then overcoated with
Hydroplus waterborne pigmented topcoats.
Surface Preparation 1k
Clean accurately the surface of the wood that must be well dried (10 –14%
humidity) and free from any trace of grease, waxes or resins. Typical Paint System
It is very important to sand with a 150 grit paper for soft woods and a 180 grit First coat of AM0623/NN and then AZ81
paper for hard woods. We recommend not to use steel wool for the substrate
preparation because it can cause blush spots (rust).

Surface Preparation
When drying of AU0447 is complete, sanding can take place by all
conventional systems, both automatic and manual, paying attention not
to put a too heavy pressure since this may cause a significant increase in
temperature. This is particularly evident using scotch-brite or fine sanders,
when the increase is detrimental for the waterborne coating film since, being
thermoplastic, may melt. In this cases, the use of the crosslinking additive for
waterborne coatings XA4080/00 may enable this kind of operations even at
0.5% only, since remarkably reduces thermoplasticity.

Surface Preparation 1k
Remove the sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner before applying the Typical Paint System
coating. Apply the first coat of AF53**/00 thinned 10% with drinking water using
a roller or a brush. Make sure that the product is well spread and there are no First coat of AU0447 and then AF53 or AF60
areas of build-up.
After 3-4 hours, when drying is complete, the product is ready for sanding. It
is preferable to sand manually using 150-180 grit paper or with mechanical
systems using 220-240 grit paper. Then apply a second coat, followed by a
third coat after 1-2 hours without sanding.
