SUBJECT: Q1 Transistor Test Procedures

GENERAL A new type of transistor, P/N 1133900 (with a red power wire extending from the
INFORMATION: module), is supplied in Kit P/N 1133904.

SERVICE Use the following information to test transistor P/N 1133900.

INFORMATION:
Static Test
1. Turn the key switch OFF and disconnect the battery connector.
2. Remove all wires connected to the module.
3. Perform multi-meter tests per Table 1. Refer to Figure 1.
Note: When it says Charges to OL, a varying resistance reading will appear on the
meter momentarily and then show OL.

Testing the Red Power Wire

This input provides power to an internal linear power supply. Measuring between the red
power wire (meter positive (+) to red wire) and the various module electrodes with a
typical multi-meter will produce fairly high impedances >1M Ohm. Measuring between
the red power wire (meter negative (–) to red wire) and the various module electrodes will
produce infinite resistance.

Using a bench test method (refer to Figure 2):

1. Configure test circuit as shown.
2. Activate switch. Lamp should illuminate.
3. Deactivate switch. Lamp should extinguish.
Notes:
• If lamp illuminates continuously throughout test, the transistor is bad.
• If lamp fails to illuminate, the transistor is bad.
• E to Ex terminals should always measure 0 ohms.
• Resistance between the Emitter/Source and Collector/Drain should measure >1M
Ohm when polarized in either direction with ohmmeter (module must be
disconnected from test circuit for resistance test).
