Tessellation is the covering of a surface with a pattern of flat shapes that have no overlaps or gaps. Regular tessellations use repeating regular polygons, while other tessellations may use curved shapes or demiregular polygons. The document describes a student project where a shape was cut out and tested to see if it would tessellate by fitting together without gaps. The student reports that the shape did tessellate because it fit perfectly with no gaps or overlaps.

TESSELLATION PROJECT

8H Math What is Tessellation? A Tessellation (or Tiling) is when we cover a surface with a pattern of flat shapes so that there are no overlaps or gaps. Examples: Regular Tessellations A regular tessellation is a pattern made by repeating a regular polygon. Other Tessellations There are also "demiregular" tessellations, but mathematicians disagree on what they actually are! And some people allow curved shapes (not just polygons) so we can have tessellations like these: My Tessellation project: Did my shape tessellate or not? Why? My shape: Yes it did tessellate because there are no gaps or over laps, it perfectly fits. How did I make my tessellate? I cut out my shape from the top and the side of the paper, then put it outside the paper, making sure to be accurate, then I taped it and I put it on an A4 paper and traced it. Thankyou for watching!
