THESIS ABSTRACT

Title: Food Handling Safety Practices among Street Vendors of Brgy. Pinagbuhatan,

Pasig City

This study aims to determine the food handling safety practices among street

food vendors of Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City in dealing with their observation

among the vendors and street foods.

The null hypothesis that was tested was: There is no significant difference in

Food Handling Safety Practices and respondents' profile.

The study made use of descriptive method of research, which was interpreted

by the researchers to come up with the information needed. The respondents of this

study are 400 customers of Barangay Pinagbuhatan.

Based on the findings and results gathered from this study, it can be conclude

that:

1. Most of the respondents are in the age bracket of seventeen and below

The majority of the respondents are females

Most of the respondents are single

Majority of the respondents are not employed

Most of the respondents are high school Graduate

2. The most observed food handling and safety practices in terms of hygiene

was the Vendors looks presentable while the least observed was the vendors wear

hairnet or if their hairs looks neat.

The most observed food handling and safety practices in terms of Utensils

was the vendors provide tongs for the costumer to serve their own food while the

least observed was the vendors wear gloves or have any cloth that can be used to

wipe the dirt in their hands.

The most observed food handling and safety practices in terms waste

management was he vendors have their own trashcan while the least observed was

the vendors have a separate trash can for biodegradable and non-biodegradable.

The most observed food handling and safety practices in terms of food

preservation was the foods are properly separated according to their kinds while the

least was vendors preserved the foods to maintain its nutritive value.

3. There is no significant difference in the demographic profile of the respondents

and Food Handling safety practices.

Recommendations are hereby offered:

1. The researchers recommend the street food vendors to tie their hair because their

hair might fall to the foods they were selling.

2. The researchers recommend the street food vendors to use gloves because

hands are the major carrier of the bacteria.

3. Although the researchers provided trashcans for biodegradable and non-

biodegradable, the researchers still recommend providing segregated trashcans to

help the environment maintain the cleanliness.

4. The researchers recommend the street food vendors not to recycle the left over

foods because the nutritive value might lose and can lead their health at risk.
