Unity Despite of Differences

“Kanya-Kanyang Katwiran, Kanya-Kanyang Kagustuhan, Kanya-Kanyang Kabig (or
worse) Kanya-Kanyang Kurakot… or else each one specializes in!” -Jaime Cardinal Sin.
This statement of Jaime Cardinal Sin means a lot for every Juan. This portray how
Filipino people especially the other government official behave according to their personality.
This is the sad part of being corrupt and lacking of nationalism, because if one must love their
country, they would never do things that will make chaos to it. Love I a very simple thing to
understand but very hard to manifest, there is love all over the place and in different kinds, but
the one true love for all things in a fair way is very hard to attain.
Bayanihan is a core essence of the Filipino culture. It is helping out one’s neighbor as
a community, and doing a task together, walking together with their shoulder loaded with the
spirit of helping hand, thus lessening the workload and making the job easier. It is also called the
‘community spirit’. It is best exhibited when people wish to move locations in the rural area. The
traditional Filipino house, the ‘bahay-kubo’, can be moved using wooden poles which are carried
from the old place to the new one. This requires a group of people to lift and carry the house
on their shoulders. Able-bodied men usually participated in such feats, while women stood and
watched, casually chatting and cheering the men on. Afterwards, there will be a small gathering
as a form of celebration and socialization.
But those days are gone now. Aside from the change of environment, from wooden slit-
houses to concrete infrastructures, and the rural areas have adapted more and more to the urban
jungles; there is also a change in people’s attitudes and disposition. It has become a selfish
world. It becomes harder and harder to create and sustain group efforts. There is also another
ideal that progresses among Filipinos of today; one which I think has been plaguing them since
the dawn of the Spanish era… the Crab Mentality. This mentality basically displays those of a
crab’s. If you put a group of crabs in a bucket, they will try to get out of the bucket, obviously,
but in a manner of stepping on one another to get up. There is no cooperation and collaboration.
Just plain, old ‘me first’ idealism. It’s the thought that, to get farther in life, one should step on
other people; use them for one’s own benefits. After all, they’re the ones who’ll get less in life;
they’re the ones who have little to begin with.
What’s wrong with the flourish of the Crab Mentality and the constant diminishing of
the Bayanihan trait? Well… everything. The thought of people being lower than one’s self is
already a problem. Everyone is equal in dignity and in value, no matter the class or the social

strata. We all regress to being human. Second, man cannot work entirely alone. This is where
work ethics and work attitudes come in. People have to be ‘team players’ in order to succeed.
People shouldn’t be used and thrown away as easily as a tool. Resources are used. People are
respected. And people should never be treated as material means to an end. People should be the
end. Third, it is not a selfish world. Selflessness is rare, but is a must. The knowledge that the
world revolves around one person, or that a country is not set one man’s shoulders is a start for
transformation. Fourth, in a global world, cooperation and collaboration is a requirement more
than a want. These skills (and values) are not just used in school or in the workplace, but also in
life. People have to get along with each other, and co-exist, whether they like it or not.
To make the country great again, the value of Bayanihan must be re-established and
reaffirmed- the value of helping one another, without expecting anything else in return. It may
not be possible to lift houses on men’s shoulders anymore; instead, lifting each other up on their
shoulders, in effect, lifting the country’s status, hopes and dreams. Respect and tolerance must be
relearned for with the Bayanihan value to support them, Filipinos can become one of the greatest
people the world has ever seen. The value is there-deep within each Filipino; it’s only a matter of
resurrecting it to its former glory.
If every Juan will bring back the old times, the unity that makes every place prosper. The
essence of genuine love in fair way will be felt all throughout the place, people and the whole
environment. The country will easily recover from its burden and will see the difference between
being selfish and being selfless. Happiness will spread all over the place and the atmosphere will
change into positive one. Children will live in a better world, older people will feel security and
calmness as they will pass the old generation to the new one. Differences of views will disappear
and understanding between one another will cover the entire country.

To Love is To Value
Love is interpreted in many ways depending on how you view love for your own, for
your opposite sex, friends, family and most especially God. It is interesting that so many young
people think of love as something inexpressible and unknowable in itself, as if it is the
unutterable mystery in that a person only can experience, but never define. There is certainly
mystery in human existence, mystery that will always evade the grasp of human reason and thus
resist our attempts to contain in a simple definition.
“Kun an pagkamoot mo kuta na garo sana santol na natutukdol ko sa samong higod, Ay!
Haloy ta ka nang tinikdol” – Adrian V. Remondo
Obviously, someone is 'in love' with something/someone or love something because it
brings him/her happiness, satisfaction, and pleasure. But is this the right definition of love? Is
this the real message of love? How could it be that love is focused on one side. Isn’t it wonderful
if love will be felt on both sides?
If it is love you feel for a person, they have probably made you laugh or have had
entertaining conversations with you at some point. They raise your spirits when you are with
them. Maybe even just their being with you makes you happy. My friends and family make me
happy. I wouldn't spend large amounts of time with someone and trust them with my secrets and
talk and laugh with them and take their advice and give them my own if they didn't make me
happy. This is not love at all. Because love is not just happiness, pleasure, satisfaction and
enjoyment. If you look around you, misinterpretation of love is all over the place, sometimes
wrong love can direct you into disaster, loss of future, loss of direction, and sometimes it can
cause broken relationship with each other.
Being in love indeed has its place in a relationship, but that place is not at its foundation.
A foundation needs to be solid, permanent, and enduring, able to withstand all sorts of pressure
from rough weather. Romantic love (falling in love) does not have the necessary qualities to
withstand such pressure primarily because such a love is essentially emotional, and emotions are
variable and fickle. One is not free with regard to one's emotions, that is, one does not choose to
feel a certain way, such as sad, complacent, angry, or afraid. We are free to act according to our
emotions or against them, but not to feel them in the first place. And yet love is something free,
that is, freely given or freely withheld. So we have to look elsewhere for the secret of genuine
love.
It seems that love inspires a feeling of belonging, like belonging in your family or with
someone in a relationship or in your favorite chair or in your religious community. When you

feel love, you feel complete. The other person in a relationship might 'make you feel whole', your
love of your God might fill a hole in your life (or 'heal' you if you perhaps suffered abuse or
great sadness at some point), or maybe being with a friend who you trust and have a good time
with does the same thing.
One of the best essence of love is sacrificing, this one thing will fill the whole missing
part of one genuine love. When you sacrifice you do love. If you do not know how to sacrifice,
your love is unsound. One must know how to work hard for their love ones. This is not just about
how to pursue someone, but this is also about how to value someone. The pleasure may end, the
enjoyment, the happiness, the satisfaction, the thing is how can you handle the situation when
everything comes in sadness.
When you value someone or something, giving up is not an option. God sacrifices his
own to save us, genuine love is taught by God. Bringing the Agapao love to world shows how
God values His own. Love isn’t all about affection, but how you value the things that matters.

Students, Teachers and Administrators Are Facing

New Challenges for New Normal

In the article written by Ching Jorge from the Philippine Daily Inquirer “PH Education
and The New Normal” last April 2020, shows the burden of how the students, teachers and the
entire administration facing today. With the old way of learning, this new transition is aiming to
bring quality education despite of the new era of learning.
Based from the records showed by different sources, many ways to reach the children are
being manifested all over the country to deliver quality service and education. Different settings
where invented to make learning possible. As the teachers express their hard work to reach every
student, the whole administration of the Department of Education exert also their full effort to
bring out the best service and aid to ease the burden and new setting of this method of learning.
DepEd also launches different ways to help the children ease the difficulties of learning distantly.
New ways are being practiced and both students, teachers and the entire community seem to
adjust little by little in this new normal.
With the help of our new technology, the government can help distribute the materials
needed to conduct effective learning. Some of the schools are using radio frequency to discuss
the modules of different grade levels. Parents are also adjusting to this new normal as they are
the main source of strength of every student, they act as the logistic and main guide of their
learning.
The writer of the article also shows how does some factors affect the effectiveness of the
process. We cannot deny the fact that some of the factors may cause hindrances of student’s
learning and communication between their school’s administration. One of the best common
problem that we are encountering is the level of effectiveness of our internet speed. This factor
plays a huge role in delivering quality education to every student that is aiming to continue their
learning. That is why one of the most priority of our government is to boost the situation of our
internet providers and to pursue them to provide an outstanding service and product for the
consumers. Stressing out the burden that the government is facing right now, different modalities
is being implemented and studies for effective learning are now being conducted.
With the uncertainty of our situation, we must continue to move forward and walk
together to reach the goal of attaining efficient learning for every student. This may not be as
easy as we can think but surely by working together and cooperating with each other may lessen

the weight of the burden that we are facing. Students and parents are not alone with this journey,
the entire force of the department (DepEd) and the government as well are working very hard to
deliver the best service they can be and the best quality of education they can offer.
The article made an impact on promoting the ways that the entire department are working
on, thus portraying the different efforts that the whole force is making despite of burdens. It is
cited in the article that “Education’s new normal will not just be about operating in an
environment that secures the health of the students; nor will it be about completely transitioning
to online modalities”, here we can see that the workforce is not just focusing on one aspect of
life, they are viewing their action to address holistically the needs of everyone. The writer should
stress out the matter about some factors affecting the learning not just the physical setting but

Doubt Out of Dream

This review aims to portray the mood of the writer; this is about how he questioned
himself if he can be able to marry his loved one the same as his brother or sister did. Examining
the mood of the writer on how he worried too much about his dream of marrying someone and
how he will manage to do things accordingly. What could be the possible ways to achieve his
goal? How can he be able to set things into possibilities? Would he be happy in the end?
Clearly the writer was attending a marriage ceremony of his relative or family. While he
was attending, different views came into his mind on how would thing come if he will marry his
girl. Sometimes people tend to see future events and stating to worry much, people see some
situation as if they were there and how would they do it soon. Coming into the situation of
pressuring oneself that making him anxiety and more worried and full of “what ifs?”, the author
imagined himself how do things be done for him and his girl from the beginning up to the end.
The environment seems very happy that everybody is celebrating the important occasion
of the couple. They were lots of people around them, celebrating the happy moment, and
expressing their support to the newly wed. this brings much tension and increase the level of
anxiety of the first person in the poem. Introducing different idea induced the writer to put
another level of anxiety encompasses to the environment and the ambiance of the gathering. As
the occasion intensifies the level of his anxiety and worries goes up.The poem ended up of many
questions, doubt, showing the weakness part of the first person. As if I were the girl, I will feel a
bit disappointed that he makes many where, who, what when, and how. Indicating the level of
anxiety, the more doubtful the first person was.
The author project great feelings that catch up the readers, the entire work is full of tense,
that the writer can be able to share it with the reader. Effectiveness of the mood and tone was
portrayed, and the place he used was very effective for comparison. The subject was worried
while his partner seems to be very happy about the occasion is very affecting to the reader. The
environment of the event was pictured out clearly as the author was able to detailed even the
smallest thing within the wedding occasion.
Message was clearly delivered, the intense of feeling of the first person was felt all over
the passage. His work is similar to the novel and other works such as Florante at Laura, Romeo
and Juliet, where love was intense and the feelings were intense. It should have been portraying
also in the last part of somehow the first person resolved his anxiety a bit so that the reader will
feel a bit calmness. After all, the author left us with uncertainty, and more questions.

achieve the tasks, this allows me to express my side or thought about the passages that was given
to me to create certain review. Making review, reaction and critique requires lot of
comprehension about the topic being read. This will enhance the ability of the reader (student) to

Being generous is one of the abilities that someone should be treasured. It is not that easy
to be generous, after all, we are suffering difficulties this time of pandemic. Everyone need
supply, reserve supply and maybe some of our kababayans need to work hard to gain the basic
needs they will be needing for their living. This will be so difficult to perform as many people
lost their jobs, living and sometimes lives. Being generous to other is an evidence of having good
heart and mind. Somehow, there is a good feeling lies in every help you give to other people,
there is a sense of happiness in every good deed you do. Generosity is one of the factors of
positivity.
Being generous is happiness, helping other without return compensation in genuine.
Generosity is genuine love; despite of hardship we have encountered especially during this
pandemic proves that the heart of a helping hand is there to support each other. I came from a
family that has nothing to eat, nothing to treasure and nothing to boast. I know the feeling of
becoming a poorest among the poor. I know how sad it is, I know how difficult it is, and I know
how broken it is for the children who wanted to experience better life. Every time I saw people
working hard outside their home, working in the rice field, I can feel their needs. We cannot
deny the fact that there are people who tend to work hard but earning in an unjust compensation.
I have been in a situation that makes me realize that life is not as simple as I view. I worked very
hard each day but I cannot afford to buy my basic needs.
I grew up with the support of my ate and kuya, definitely it is their generosity that makes
me live and fulfill my dreams. That is why it is not difficult for me show generosity to other
people. My ate and kuya thought me a very important lesson in life, to return their hard work I
must be able to find someone whom I can be able to help reach his/her goal. they thought me
how to show a helping hand despite of having nothing. Giving hope to someone will make our
environment happy.
On the other hand, we should be very observant, we must know how to help properly and
help the people who is deserving to give help. Some people tend to be poor because of being
irresponsible and lazy. Let us not be the way of promoting bad effect of generosity to others,

an evil. Even in a very desperate situation, it will never be good that the root of evilness will be
the solution. Covering the problem with wrong source of cover will result into damnation. It will
never be good to solve a problem by a new problem.
It is indeed a very difficult time for us this time, we suffered much, many lives were lost,
business closed, economy collapsed, educational system in a new normal era, but is it a valid
reason to accept the offer of the devil? Are we forgetting something? Are we that hopeless to
forget that there is God? Thinking about the money from the devil will never be an option to
solve the problem brought to us by the pandemic. There will always be a good way to solve
problems, to make things good, to make the place better. Choosing the side of the devil will be
the worst thing to do. We know where to run, we know where to seek help, it is our God.
People nowadays always looking for solution for the pandemic effects, but the truth about
the pandemic will never be secrete. Our God is showing us His promise and if someone will be
reading the holy book of the Christian (Bible), this is not new to them. If we are going to look
into the broader picture, our world is going to a catastrophic end, and this pandemic is just a
simple example of it. What benefit we can get from the devil? Let us not forget that the devil is
still devil, remember the story of Adam and Eve, he is offering a pleasure, a freedom and
knowledge. It could be good, better and sweet for Eve’s ears, but wrong doing always some up
with a punishment. Devil will definitely give solution, a swift solution, but it will not last. Devil
will always be the master of perdition, perversion and lies.
There will be some other ways, a good way to solve the problem brought to us by the
pandemic and it will never be the devil as the solution. We were been tested, tempted but if we
are going to be smart, we know what is happening. We know from whom are we going to ask
help. Let us not forget that the most powerful one is our God who created us and possesses the
power to stop whatever we are suffering from. It is no way I will accept the money from the
devil to help the people affected by the pandemic.

What part of the newspaper has what could be called a reaction paper? What is its local
significance?
Answer:
The part of the newspaper that could be called a reaction paper is the editorial part. This
is the part wherein the author can express himself through writing its reaction to a certain topic.
The local significance of the editorial section is showing the other side of the story based from
been observed and what been experience, by this article some may be in favor and some may be
not. The power of their intuition is shown and may influence the reader, in editorial section it is
necessary that the author have a broader view about the topic or issue.

Question no.5:
Can reaction papers influence the world? Why or why not?
Answer:
Reaction paper can influence the world; this can impact the way of thinking of the
readers. One of the common example of this is in our country where people are arguing on each
other about the current administration that we have. In this situation, there are two sides that
conveyed among the readers/people. Readers react according to their accepted norms.

concept paper), discuss briefly the following statement below:
a. Progress calls for change in one’s way of life. Which of our family customs do you
think we should change and which should we keep?

Being a Filipino we have many traditions, we’ve been thought by our great grandparents
and we treasure it. What we are now is the manifestation of our old customs that shape the
society that we have. Some youth have forgotten the traditions passed to us by our ancestors but
some are very conservative about it. As we go through a progress some of these traditions
disappear little by little. In some case like me, there are lots of differences between the old times
and the current era. I have my own perception of what should I believe and what should not.
Many traditions from our family that was been omitted and never been observed.
These changes are based from my knowledge and my spiritual belief was the main factor
or contributor for the changes that my family have. We are not celebrating Christmas, fiestas,
and some religious activities that is being observed by many catholic people. I am not suggesting
that everyone should do the same way as my family did, but we are just practicing things the it
should be based from the truth according to our knowledge.

In progressing society like us, we can say that changes happened according to the
preference of an individual. Depending on their view, belief or some other factors, changes may
occur and we cannot avoid it.

b. What has been the biggest challenge for you so far throughout this crisis?

We have different situation, different status in life, different sources of living.

Declaration of community quarantine last March 2020 is a huge life changing event for all of us.
With this, many struggle for living, but on the other hand helping hand occurs in some of our
kababayans. Being a student, this was the hardest part that I have encountered from the crisis,
with the new modalities of learning, the transition of the new normal from the old normal of
school setting is very hard to cope with. Adjustment is the only key for the new setting, but being
stocked up with the previous setting I have experienced the difficulties of study alone while
understanding the lesson without the teacher.
In so many ways, living also was affected among us, my family is currently suffering
from a big loss since some of the companies that was been struck by economic landslide is
affecting also the entire society. With this happenings, I have learned that we must do some
adaptation and we must enhance our coping mechanism to move forward with the crisis, and
learn how to live with it. Being a graduating student stepping forward towards transition of new
chapter soon, this will be the greatest battle field to practice life learnings.

c. Demonstrate your knowledge about these concepts by writing a paragraph of 15 to

20 sentences about your senior high school experience.

Striving alone, while thinking about to quit, difficulties strikes and sadness of regret
coming for life reflection. What could be the happiness of being a senior high school student? Is
all about happiness, or hardwork? My experience is quite a roller coaster, once a happiness and
then the next one will be the opposite of my feelings. I am not as good as other students; I am
always late in every activity. I am not good in recitations, role performing, or even in brain
storming, I am with the flow of the current. My entire life of being a high school student is not
quite good. Being tempted by the society, a youth like me was captured by irresponsible actions
and miserable decisions. Sacrificing my future is the worst thing I did of my entire life. I know I
have to stand up and move forward, I know I have to see the better picture of life. Being happy is
not just meeting the needs of my life, but being happy is the better decision to decide. Being
youth is vulnerable to destruction, sometimes I misinterpret things. My high school life will
eventually have turned into my biggest empowerment to succeed.
