Personnel Monitoring Services: Film Badge & TLD

A. PROCEDURE FOR APPLYING FOR FILM BADGE / TLD SERVICES

1. Secure and fill up the application form at the Radiation Protection Services (RPS),
Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI). In the second page write only the
name of the person/s who will work directly with the x-ray machine and/or radiation
sources and need to wear the film badge / TLD with his/her birthdate, sex, status,
designation and past information concerning previous work with radiation (where &
when this was acquired).

2. Submit the accomplished form at RPS for evaluation and approval. Subscription of
film badge service can either be by mail or pickup.

3. Secure an order of payment from RPS and shall be based on the approved fees
and charges as follows:

Film .................................. P 165.00 / film / monitoring period + current


mailing charges( for mail subscription)
Cassette/film holder .......... P 50.00 / pc.

TLD …………………………. P 165 / TLD + current mailing charges

Current mailing fee is……. P 20 / monitoring period for (1- 6 films for
Metro Manila)
P 25 / monitoring period (1-6 films for provinces)

4. Pay at the Cashier Unit at the Second Floor, Administration Building and wait for
the official receipt.

5. Present the official receipt to the RPS. The film badges / TLD will be prepared
and issued to you immediately.

B. THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT FILM BADGE / TLD SERVICE:

1. The film badge / TLD are dosimeters and will not shield you from radiation. It only
measures and monitors your exposure to radiation while working in a radiation
area.

2. The dosimeter is worn preferably in the CHEST AREA to monitor exposure of the
whole body to radiation.
3. If the user is wearing a lead apron / gown, the dosimeter should be placed under it.

4. The TLD badge must be worn with the thin foil covering facing outwards. Do not
pierce or damage it.

5. The dosimeter must be worn only within the radiation facility.

6. The CONTROL FILM / TLD should NOT be placed on the X-ray machine or near
the source of radiation. Put it in the designated area with a storage rack where the
dosimeters of the personnel are placed when not in use, e.g. in the reception or
office areas.

7. The issued films / TLDs shall be used until the end of the MONITORING PERIOD
indicated in the upper right of the Identification (ID) Sheet.

8. At the end of the monitoring period, RETURN the used films / TLDs together with
the ID Sheet. For filmbadges, Do NOT return the blue cassettes.

9. DO NOT staple, tape or tamper the films. For TLDs, do not open the badge for any
reason.

10. Results of the dose evaluation of the films / TLDs are available for pickup 3 weeks
upon receipt of the films at PNRI.

For mail subscribers, Dose Reports are mailed together with the next subscription.

11. Dose Exposure Reports must be studied, KEPT & MAINTAINED by the Radiation
Safety Officer (RSO).

12. NO FILMBADGE SERVICE ON FRIDAYS

13. PNRI has instituted a Cash Payment Policy for all the technical services to be
provided by the Institute. You can either pay in cash, check or postal money order
payable to the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute, Diliman, Quezon City before
or on the day the service is provided. PNRI is accepting annual subscription by
mail or pick-up.
