Why most people are not using the bicycle lane on to ride cycle on the street from Lebu to

Jemmo

City planning has mainly favored the automobile even though its not the only preferred way of
transportation. Bicycle use reduce traffic congestion, decrease dependency on oil consumption,
promotes health and environmental protection. Most people like cycling since it is fun,
convenient, cheap, and environmentally friendly and way of doing physical exercise. In our
city there is no good planning for cycle lane and no safety in place for cycle users. In addition
to harsh weather, luck of proper infrastructure and more hilly paths attribute for lower use of
cycle as a means of transportation. The new bicycle lane dedicate for the bicycle on the street
from Lebu to Jemmu is a good example of this. This research will interview the dwellers of the
district, the relevant government offices and planners to find why the street is not used by
cyclists as intended. My personal observation also helps me to witness the challenges of using
the cycle lane. Travelers don’t prefer to use cycle because the route is not safe and convenient
for cyclist. The small semi-hemispherical concrete blocks used to separate the dedicated cycle
route. Since there is no adequate parking spot for vehicle most of the blocks are removed from
their original place and cars park on the cycle lane in most places. That makes it unsafe for the
cyclist from easily ride using their dedicated lane. There is no cycle rack or cycle parking space
at both end of the route. There is no connection route at both ends. People who want to ride
further would be in problem or forced to use the vehicle. Currently almost no traveler is using
the cycle lane. Instead it is used by cars for parking and people to walk. Though cycle is a
health and sustainable way of transportation it needs proper planning and design to implement
in the city.
