COMPANY PROFILE
Transformers and Electricals Kerala Ltd. (TELK) was incorporated on
December 9, 1963 under the Companies Act 1956. The Government of
Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation and the global giant in the
power equipment, M/s. Hitachi Limited of Japan joined to lend support in
nation building. The Ambassador of Japan laid the foundation stone of the
factory in January 1964 at Angamaly. The factory is located at Angamaly
beside the national high way 47 and is easily accessible by road. Its location,
just opposite to the Angamaly railway station helps the company to move its
products by rail. The Cochin International Airport is very near to TELK and
customers can reach TELK from this Airport within minutes. Sea port,
Cochin is about 30 kms away from TELK, which helps the company in its
exports. The first power transformer from TELK rolled off the production
line in 1969, since then numerous Power Transformers and sub
stations equipments like Instruments Transformers, SF6 Gas Circuits
Breakers, Shunt /Series Reactors and Isolated Phase Busducts followed in
trail. At present TELK is globally known as a major manufacturer of heavy
electrical equipments for power transmission and distribution.
The fruitful collaboration with Hitachi helped TELK to bring out the latest
innovations in power transmission technology. This has enabled the
company to become a prominent one in the manufacturer of power
transformers and allied products. TELK has earned a reputation for
outstanding technical expertise; excellent quality and dedicated service back
up. Catering to the deserving requirements of international standards, TELK
has gained many first to its credit. Since the company’s quality system fully
comply with the requirements of ISO 9001 Certification during September
1995. This is the first Kerala Government undertaking getting ISO
Certification. The machinery and equipment of TELK are up to the
international standards. Imported Vertical Winding machine, totally air
conditioned winding assembly shops that ensure precision humidity
controlled and dust free atmosphere etc. are some of the features that lend
structural base for TELK quality. TELK has a professional and efficient
marketing set up and they have a very efficient Project Engineering Division.
Between 1966 and 1980 the company worked profitably and afterwards it
began to show loss trend mainly due to the substantial dip in the company’s
products leading to severe in working capital. As a result the company was
declared a sick unit by the Board of Industrial and Financial Reconstruction
(BIFR). On the basis of the recommendations made by BIFR various relief
and concessions were granted by various banks, institutions and the
Government of Kerala. As per the rehabilitation packages the company is
taking all efforts to reduce the losses to the minimum by achieving
operational efficiency and cutting down costs in all areas. Now the company
has become a profit making unit.

I. Payment Structure
Total payment is divided to basic pay, DA, HRA, PF, ESI and other special
allowances which are fixed according to the experience and grade of an
employee.
HRA is fixed as 10% of basic pay to a minimum of Rs. 140 & a maximum of
Rs. 400 per month. Workmen who are residence of company quarters will
also be eligible for HRA
The company provide with a transport subsidy of Rs. 115 per month.
Short leave of not less than one hour at the end of the shift up to a total of
accumulation of 4hours per month will be allowed.
X. Travelling Allowance
All workmen, in the office and factory, will be provided with three pairs of
pants and three slack shirts in December every alternate year.
XIII. Interest Subsidy for House Loan
To meet part of interest expenses incurred by workmen solely for loan raised
by them for construction of own house, the management agrees to subsidize
such interest subject to limiting the total annual financial commitment to
Rs. 100000.
1) Health and safety: Health checkups are done for the employee.
Ambulance service is always available in the company for 24hrs.
March 4 is the Safety Day of the company.
2) Recreational Facilities
TASC in TELK (TELK Arts and Sports Clubs) conducts the various
cultural programmes for the employees. TASC Day is celebrated every
year. There is a library and reading room for the employees.
