Aim: Analysis of MOSFET for analog performance

a) Plot ID versus VDS , ID versus VGS,, gm versus VGS
b) Plot the frequency response of NMOS transistor using LTSPICE
Objective: To understand tradeoffs involved in analog VLSI circuits and verify issues involved in
analog circuit via simulations
Hardware / Software / Apparatus used: PC with LTSPICE Loaded.
Theory:
1) Equation of ID saturation and ID linear
Linear: when VGS>VTH
W ( V 2 DS
ID=µCox ( )[ VGS−VTH ) VDS – ]

Saturation: when VDS>VGS-VTH

Procedure:
1) Write spice code in note pad.
2) Save it as *.cir/*.sp.
3) Right click on the file and open with LTC folderLTSPICE IVSCAD to open file in
LTSPICE.
4) Click on Run icon click on pick visible trace, select output variable.
5) Observe output.
6) To upload other output sheet click on plot setting, add plot pane.
7) Click again on pick visible trace and select other variable.
8) To generate gm click on Id(m1) right click on it, write in expression editor d(Id(m1))to get
derivation of id with respect to vgs. i.e gm.
9) Compare two output.
10) For (b) part write spice code for fig 1(b).and select drain voltage to observe output.

Conclusion / Outcome: Analyzed MOSFET for analog performance. Relation of different parameters
of MOSFET and the frequency response of NMOS transistor using LTSPICE was studied. Tradeoffs
involved in analog VLSI were analyzed and verified issues involved in analog circuit via simulations.
