m6 Lesson Idea
Summary: Students will evaluate and explain the physical and chemical changes of water.
Selected Technology Tool: For this lesson plan, we decided to use Wakelet as our main source of
information on the topic of Matter. Within this Wakelet we used several other technology tools such
as Flipgrid, BrainPop, and Gizmos in order to relay this information.
☒ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or
Choice” during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.
☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is
student-driven and student-led. Students should have “Voice and Choice” in the activities,
selecting the topic of study and determining the technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the
standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student
work and promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s
morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.
Your student’s projects must be shared locally or globally to meet this level.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): For this lesson plan, we decided to address several different
learning needs in our classroom. In order to do this, we linked a BrainPop for students who are
auditory learners as well as visual learners. For our opening activity into this lesson, we are going to
give every student their own ice cube and paper towel to observe the different changes that are
taking place. We also created a Gizmos for our students to complete. These are both for the hands-
on learners. We incorporated lots of technology into this lesson plan so that students are familiar

with the online resources that are available to them. With specific regards to UDL, for engagement:
students are able to see not just through a computer screen the chemical changes that are
happening to the ice cube, but they can use their senses to observe what is happening. For
representation, each student has a different way of retaining knowledge and through the several
different methods we used, they are able to find the one that works best for them. Lastly, for action
and expression, students get to “show what they know” by completing the Gizmos activity attached.
For our closing activity, we created a quiz that is linked to the Wakelet for them to complete.
Lesson idea implementation: The teachers and students will work through the Wakelet together to
complete it. Attached there is an opening video that the students will watch to open up the lesson.
Everyone will watch the BrainPop video as a class. Once that video is done then each student will
complete the Gizmos activity individually. After the Gizmos activity is completed by each student, we
will then discuss the findings in the activity as a class. As a closing for this lesson plan, the students
will individually complete the short quiz to test their knowledge. The guiding question for this lesson
plan is “what are the properties of the 3 states of matter?”. The student learning will be assessed
through the different technology tools that we have included. The final product, meaning the
Wakelet, will be used to differentiate learning because of the diversity of the technology within the
lesson plan. A way that we could extend the learning to a higher learning level would be to allow
each student to create a Flipgrid explaining to the class the 3 properties of matter and
demonstrating how they change.
Reflective Practice: This lesson idea is going to impact student learning in a positive manner because
it involves lots of technology and students have the opportunity to observe what is happening first-
hand. Something else that could be done to extend the students’ learning would be for each student
to have their own Bunsen burner and create steam from it. We think that this lesson plan
incorporates many different aspects of technology tools that students have either never heard of
before or have never used so they will be learning something new.
