TO THE NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES INSTITUTE;
I graduated from Bilkent University Computer Engineering Department in 2018. Although

I started my undergraduate education with Bilkent University Industrial Engineering in 2013,
at the end of my first year in the department, I decided that it would be more appropriate for
my personal interests and skills to continue my academic career in the field of computers. I
believe that my interests in computers and other electronic devices has a great influence on
my motivation for this decision. I think that the success of my studies during my
undergraduate education, my achievements in my internship education and the reflections of
these in my professional business life are proof of my computer skills. I believe that the
academic studies I will do as a result of the training I will take in the fields of Deep Learning,
Federated Learning and Transfer Learning will also contribute to my personal and
professional life.
During my undergraduate education, I took part in many team projects besides my
individual projects. Especially in the graduation project, which we called "Aerocast", which
aims to find the best flight ticket opportunity available by recommending users the most
appropriate purchase date for a particular route, I studied as the employee responsible for
maintaining web services and machine learning pipeline automation. After collecting and
analyzing existing data scattered across different web services such as Skyscraper, Fare
Finder, KAYAK, we made predictions using machine learning techniques. As a result, the
project, which analyzes data using state-of-the-art data science approaches, won the Data
Science Project Award, an award given by our department.
One of my internship training at ? Havelsan of the leading companies in Turkey's defense
industry, the project was completed in Image Processing. Being a part of a large company
like Havelsan enabled ? me to observe complex software development processes. I completed
my other internship in TÜBİTAK BİLGEM Software Technologies Research Industry, by
taking part in the design and implementation of the test automation of the ongoing project
using automation tools. I continued to work in different projects as a part-time software
engineer after these internships which provided me with gains in many areas in terms of
following the processes of big projects from beginning to end and improving my software
design skills. Working as a part-time software engineer forced me to study harder for keeping
my learning curve and gave me an option to use the skills I acquired at Bilkent University.
I am working as a researcher in the Image Processing Group of the TÜBİTAK Space
Technologies Research Institute. I am responsible for developing transfer learning and deep
learning algorithms. Working at the Space Institute motivates me to learn more about space
and multimedia processing using the machine learning algorithm. This motivation helps me
to produce a good solution with the latest technology techniques and to take the technique
one step further. I believe that working in these areas has enabled me to practice prior to
training in my academic career. I think that being a member of a qualified research group is
very important for developing my research ability and will have a great impact on my
academic career.
Considering my interest and background, I think I need to continue to improve my skills
and knowledge in order to be a good consultant and practitioner. After a long period of
research, I believe that the PhD education program at Hacettepe University is a great
opportunity to develop the state-of-the-art machine learning technique and create an
institutional solution to improve both my intellectual capacity and research ability. If I'm
involved in the program, I would like to do research on incomplete data tolerant neural
networks or distributed learning. I want to continue my academic education at Hacettepe
University, believing that the faculty who have done various scientific studies in different
fields and a well-established education with proven qualifications will shed light on my
career goals.
