The document provides posing tips and techniques for models during headshots, sitting, and standing poses.

Some tips for headshots include starting at a 3/4 angle, pulling the face toward the shoulder, finding a centered position and varying facial angles, utilizing hands and expressions, pulling hair away from the face, and adding drama by pushing hair from back to front.

Some tips for sitting poses include starting in a profile and upright position for long leg angles, having the model rock forward and backward to add personality, utilizing the floor and relaxed positions, finding asymmetry in the legs for more interest, resting the elbow on the knee, and taking advantage of opportunities for playfulness.

POSING GUIDE for Female models

OVERVIEW
I like to think of this guide as more of a cheat sheet than a posing flow. I want you to have this as
the backbone of your posing, but you will add flair through your own creativity and
circumstance. You don’t need a different guide for every type of vibe. This simple sheet works
for any shoot and will give you the confidence to say  “we got it”.

Don’t forget to repeat these poses facing left and right for more options. If you feel stuck, add
face angles to each variation (my current obsession is chin high from a 3/4 angle to get great
catch lights and cheekbones). You can also add hands, foot movement, and hair play to any of
these standard shots for even MORE variety.

Standing TIP #1

Start facing forward and utilize the clothes as hand placement

Standing TIP #2

Knees turned in and together is more flattering than knees separated

This creates an S curve

Standing TIP #3

Turn profile, many new models will tend to stay fully forward

Standing TIP #4

Try my leg kick trick! Start with a kick backward

Standing TIP #5

Then as the leg comes forward allow it to kick slightly forward

Standing TIP #6

And then bring it across the front for a more unexpected move. This may cause
the model to wobble, that’s great! It may end up being an interesting shot with
unexpected reactions and expressions. This kick trick can be editorial or
commercial. For editorial, ask the model to be more loose with the way her body
reacts to the sweeping foot.
