Critical Thinking Questions:
1. What was the observation of Poss about the garbage problem? What was his
solution to this problem? Please relate.
Poss recognized that garbage trucks consume a billion gallons of fuel,

considering it is the most expensive vehicle to operate. Poss stated that he was
uncertain of municipalities' and waste collection services' idea of suggesting more
fuel-efficient cars and better collection routes will reduce the overall costs and
environmental footprint. According to Poss, the solution of the government might not
generate a more efficient collection process. He suggested that the answer is to lessen
the need for systematic collection and reduce the amount of trash collected. As Poss
reflected these answers, he found numerous approaches. Poss thought of why not
compact the trash in the bin by applying the solar technology he used at work.
Increased capacity would equal fewer pickups and fewer garbage truck fumes. Based
on Poss and his team, the current version of the BigBelly bin can hold up to five times
more trash than traditional receptacles. As a result, it decreases trash pickup frequency
and cuts fuel use and trash-truck emissions.
2. What particular habit in the entrepreneurial field was used by Poss in this situation?
Discuss briefly.
Based on the entrepreneurial field, I define Poss as a knowledgeable individual,

for he has a practical understanding of the real essence of what is actually happening
in the environment. Through research, information, skills, and experience he acquired,
he formulated a SMART innovation that would help lower garbage trucks' collections
and decrease fuel consumption. Note how Poss used the prediction approach as he
analyzed available operational and financial data on trash truck fuel consumption.
Without Poss' ideas, there will be greater issues that may arise and cause substantial
damage to the environment.
Aside from being knowledgeable, Poss possesses creativity. Being a keen
observer of his surroundings and passion for bettering the environment, he turned his
novel and original ideas into existence. He recognizes ideas, alternatives, and
possibilities that may help solve problems. Poss mentioned if trash containers held
more trash, they would not need to be emptied so often; if trash did not need to be
collected so often, collection costs and associated pollution would be reduced; and if
receptacles did not overflow, there would be less litter on the streets. This Poss'
proposal has justifiable reasons to establish his plan of actions.
I also admire how Poss deals with rejection. Initially, his concept of a solar-
powered trash compactor declined in favor of other ideas for environmentally friendly
inventions. But it didn't stop him from creating his beneficial trash bin. Instead, Poss
became resourceful and began to involve other individuals, building a team with the
same path and interests as him. For that reason, the Big Belly came to life, which
provides exact solutions to the problems he noticed while walking down the Boston
street.

3. Given the chance, with the same garbage problem here in the Philippines, how will
you solve it the entrepreneurial way? Discuss your proposed solutions.
I will start a small recycling business in our town in which I will find service
that in demand for the people. I will establish a vending type recycling post powered
by solar energy. In the process of my business, the residents will receive money after
throwing their trash. Then these recyclable junks will be collected every week. After
that, I will sell these junks in the industrial factories who need these recyclable
materials for their products. I noticed that a few recycling shops operate here in our
municipality and we only have one garbage truck in each town here in Iloilo. Besides
the small recycling business, I would like to purchase electronic garbage trucks and
rent it to the municipality to reduce the carbon footprint. The potential savings are
enormous. Provides more convenience and reliability than the usual garbage truck
with lower maintenance costs, reduced noise and zero carbon emissions. Nowadays,
electronic vehicles are rampant and innovative; that is why this E-garbage truck will
be one reason to overcome the environment's problem.
