Supply Company (DESCO) Limited.

the development of my future career. In this report, I tried to summarize what I have done and
experience during my internship period in DESCO Limited.

First of all we would like to thank almighty Allah, for his grace in accomplishing our internship
report timely.
I would like to express my gratitude to the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering
of DIU to keep internship credit in the curriculum of the graduation program and give me a
scope of tasting the flavor of industry oriented tasks and the field of work with my interest. I am
also grateful to the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of DIU of office of
Placement, DIU to arrange on opportunity for choosing an own interest organization and
complete internship here.
I am also thankful to Mr. Md. Mamunor Rashid, Deputy General Manager, HRM Division from
the core of my heart for this kind support, guidance, constructive, supervisor, instruction and
advice and for motivating me to do my internship smoothly at DESCO Ltd.
I feel proud and gratified that I was always held under the supervisor Engr. Md. Golam Mowla
(Grid system Protection & Energy Audit Division), Engr. Mohammad Zahidul Haque (Executive
Engineer of MVSS Maintenance Division), Engr. A.K.M. Nazimul Islam (Executive Engineer of
Uttarkhan S & D Division), Engr. A.B.M. Nazibor Rahman (Executive Engineer of Testing &
Repairing Division) and the whole DESCO team. Here, daily reporting along with mental and
professional support enhanced my experience of corporate life.
To prepare this report and other documentation regarding Internship report I would show
appreciation to all the members of DESCO Ltd. Who always advised me and helped me through
hands and pens.
Executive Summary
Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited, commonly known as DESCO, is a public company
which distributes electricity at the Northern parts of Dhaka city and Tongi town of Gazipur
District. DESCO was formed in November 1996 as the country’s first electricity distribution
company under the companies Act 1994 to change the quality of electricity distribution system
under the continuous renovation/reconstruction activities of Bangladesh’s most important power
sector.
This report provides an overview of the Training and Development Division Grid operation &
protection, Sub-station operation & maintenance, commercial operation & system operation of S
& D division of Uttarkhan, Meter Testing lab activities & Transformer workshop activities of
DESCO. Working as an intern for small period of one month, the main aspect was to acquire
information and data the culture, working environment, and other practices of the company.
Abstract
Field attachment is the major approach to experience any practical knowledge regarding power
distribution or power substations. In this report, we have shortly described the total procedure
about power distribution, substation operation, controlling and various protection systems. Here
also mentioned how to maintain the regular operation of the substation. Technical department
refers to the section where employee or man power, are directly occupied to maintain or operate
the grid or distribution substation, control room, feeder room, switching room or to
install/uninstall or maintaining consumer transformer, maintaining distribution line, load
assessment, designing new distribution network, planning for future based on a real-time load
assessment, connecting or disconnecting consumer line, measuring consumption and building,
meter testing etc. all technical and engineering works are done. During internship time, I have to
gather knowledge on line maintenance, power factor, and load management and sub-station
operation. Also observed metering, one-point service center activities, billing and collection,
load sanction and load retention, disconnection, commercial complain and solution.
