Christian Foundation Teachings. (Salvation)
This series of Bible teachings are designed to remove doubts or confusion and stabilize the hearts
of saved people, who may have such doubts or confusion as to whether they are saved. They are
also intended to facilitate the salvation of the unsaved, who may have thought that they are saved
just because they are in the midst of the people of God, and may have been participating in
activities common among the saved.
In this study, we shall be concerned with the first/foremost experience, which is the
“SALVATION”experience,. Hereafter, we shall progress to the other experiences (as much as
possible) in the order they should be experienced.
1. SALVATION DEFINED
SALVATION in this context does not mean “being saved from sickness, accident, physical death
or some kind of evil/urgly situation”. These however are forms of SALVATION (eg. Judges
6:36-37; 7:7; 1Sam. 9:16; Psa. 59:2; Matt. 14:30; 8:25; Jon. 12:27).
SALVATION that is referred to here is that state when a sinner is forgiven, justified and freed
by God from the power/dominion of sin (Mtt. 1:21; Eph. 2:4-6, 8; Act. 4:12). SALVATION as
defined has two sides to it:- (1) being forgiven, justified and freed from the power of sin in the
now (eg. Lk. 7:50; Rom. 3:24; 5:1; Jn. 8:32, 34, 36) (2) eventual entry into the kingdom of God
at last (1Cor.5:5, 9-10; Matt. 24:13; 1Cor. 3:15). One may be saved in the now but lost at last, if
the one eventually loses the salvation experience in the on’s lifetime on earth. (Ezk. 18:24-28).
It is this first aspect of SALVATION that is referred to in the Bible as follows:- “being born of
God” (Jon. 1:13; 1Jon. 3:9), “being born again” (Jon. 3:3, 5; 1Pet. 2:23), “being quickened”
(resurrected from spiritual death) (Eph. 2:1, 6; Col. 2:13; 3:1), “being regenerated” (Tit. 3:5),
“being in Christ” (2Cor. 5:17).
2. SALVATION, HOW?
Note: Those who have indwelling evil spirits will need have such expelled from them before a
genuine salvation experience can take place . This is because the Spirit of God can dwell in the
same body with the devil. (2Cor. 6:15-16.0) .

Topic: NEW LIFE IN CHRIST
Text: 2Cor. 5:17; Rom. 6:4; 7:6; Gal. 6:15; 4:24; Col. 3:10
As was stated in the last topic on this series, titled “SALVATION”, we are dealing with these
topics so that the hearts of saved people who may be experiencing some confusion/doubts could
be stabilized. The studies are also intended to facilitate the salvation of the unsaved, who may
have thought that they are saved, just because they are in the midst of the people of God.
Already we have seen “SALVATION” as the first and fore-most experience. In our treatment of
the subject, we both defined it and showed how it is experienced.
Let us now survey the next step, “NEW LIFE IN CHRIST”, going through the following two
sub-points ‒ (1) New life in Christ defined; (2) Aspects of the new life.
1. NEW LIFE IN CHRIST DEFINED
“NEW LIFE IN CHRIST” or “NEW LIFE THROUGH CHRIST” means “an entirely different and new type
of life, made possible by the Spirit of Christ (or of God) which one receives when one is saved”
(cons. Rom. 8:3-4; Eph. 1:13-14). (The term new life in Christ is as compared to the life one was
living before salvation or coming to Christ).
What happens is that, as soon as the Spirit of Christ comes into the man, the spirit and heart (or
mind) of the man becomes recreated, or renewed, or regenerated (Ezk. 36:26; Col. 3:9-10; Tit.
3:5). This is why that inner-man, that is the spirit of the man is called ‘a new man’ (2Cor. 5:17;
Gal. 6:15; Eph. 4:24). The Spirit of God in the man now continually influences the man to live a
spiritual rather than a carnal life.
2. ASPECTS OF THE NEW LIFE
The following aspects of the ‘new life’ will usually be found in those who have been genuinely
saved:
(a) Transformed Character: Let us get the meaning of transformation from the following cases:-
(i). The demoniac was a restless man who continued to do things that inflicted injuries upon
him, being under the influence of some evil spirits (Mk. 5:5). But on meeting Jesus
Christ and being healed, all the violence to himself stopped and he came back to his right
mind (Mk. 5:15).This is the experience of many who now have transformed characters.
They were doing things that satisfied their flesh and mind, but detrimental to their souls
(Eph. 2:2-3; 1Pet. 4:3). But on coming to Christ, they become saved and come to the
right type of mind in the sight of God (cons. 1Cor. 6:11).
(ii) The Samaritan woman was one that went from man to man and also had nothing to do
with the Jews in accordance with the tradition of her elders (Jn. 4:16-18 & 9). But on
encountering Christ, not only did her immoral manners change, but she testified to Christ,
a Jew (Jn. 4:28-29). This also is another aspect of transformation of character. The so
transformed of today have dropped immorality, racial/class/ethnic prejudice or distinction
and have become witnesses to Christ (Gal. 6:15).
(iii) Another form of transformation of character can be seen from Saul of Tarsus, a religious,
but injurious and blasphemous man (Acts 9:1; 1Tim. 1:13). But when Christ met him, he
became a loving and lovable brother among the redeemed (Acts 9:17; 21:20; 22:13).
(iv) The Philippian jailer’s experience is yet another form of transformation of character. He
was a merciless man, who kept the orders he received without mercy (Acts 16:24). But
when his spirit and heart were touched by Christ, he turned into a merciful and caring
brother (Acts 16:33).
b. New Thoughts: This is another aspect of the new life in Christ. Because of the newness
of the heart/spirit, the man’s thoughts are now changed from the things that are ungodly
to the things that are godly both morally, materially and otherwise (com. Phil. 4:8). From
canal and worldly thought to heavenly ones (Col. 3:1-3).
c. New Ambition/Interest: Another aspect of the new life in Christ is the new interest in
the things of God such as, Bible reading, praying, Christian fellowship, witnessing to the
Lord and ambition of making heaven at last (comp. Phil. 3:7-12).
d. New Friendship And Fellowship: New friendship and fellowship is yet another aspect
of the new life in Christ. When one’s spirit and heart have been made new, it is natural to
find one befriending those that have like mind with the one (cons. Acts 2:42; 4:23; 9:1-2
and 26-28). The one no longer takes pleasure in old friendship that discusses mumdane
and spiritually unprofitable things.
N/B. Generally speaking, “new life in Christ” makes one’s conscience alive to God, to
godliness and to being in heaven at last. This consciousness is what keeps those who
have it from “wilful sinning”, as found in those who do not have new life in Christ.

Topic: ASSURANCE OF SALVATION
Text: 1Cor. 1:18; 15:1-3; 1Jn. 1:1-4
In the topic, “New Life in Christ”, we saw that if one must be credited with having new life in
Christ, one must have had the following:- (i) transformation of character, (ii) new thoughts; (iii)
new ambition/interest and (iv) new friendship and fellowship.
With the above, we now come to the next experience in the series of foundation experiences that
a genuine Christian must have; “Assurance of salvation”.
“Assurance of salvation” simply means, “being sure that one is a child of God, or that one’s
name is written in the book of life” (Rom. 8:16 eg. Lk. 10:20). It is that personal conviction of
salvation distinct from that which the preacher, a Christian follow-up worker or other Christian
told one.
The following Scriptures (and many others) testify to assurance of salvation:- Jn. 6:68-69; Rms.
8:16; 1Tim. 1:12-16; 2Pt. 1:16-21; Gal. 2:16-21.
As there is “the how” of salvation, “the how” of new life in Christ, so there is “the how” of
assurance of salvation.
The way into assurance of salvation can be illustrated this way:- If a man listened to his teacher,
understood everything that was taught and answered the questions that were asked in the
examination correctly, the man will naturally have assurance that he has passed the examination
(1Cor. 15:1-11).
In the same vein, there will be assurance of salvation naturally in the heart where there is “new
life” comprising transformed character, new thoughts, new ambition/interest and new friendship
and fellowship(1Tim. 1:12-16). This means that if one’s mind is always dwelling on things
impure, untrue, immoral, dishonest, bad and ungodly, the one cannot have assurance of salvation
(comp. Phil. 4:8; Isa. 32:17). Furthermore, neglecting to do restitutions that the Lord is urging
one to do through His Spirit can also cause lack of assurance of salvation.
The primary means of assurance of salvation is the witness of the indwelling Spirit of God in the
heart. Once the Spirit of God is in one, the heart of such a one will be made to have assurance of
salvation (Rom. 8:16; Gal. 4:6). This is done by some level of awareness or strong impression
created in the heart through the indwelling Spirit of God.
Apart from the above, another means of having or retaining assurance of salvation is by believing
the word of God on the remission of accidental faults (1Jn. 1:7; 2:1-2 comp. Lk. 17:3-4). If
doubt is not allowed, with regard to the cleansing of these occasional faults such as bad temper,
bad comments or the like, as can be found in the unsanctified, assurance of salvation will always
be retained in the heart. However, to avoid the ugly effect of besetting sins, one must strive to
give them up and strive for sanctification (Heb. 12:2).
Having confidence in God and believing His word implicitly enhances assurance of salvation.
Also believing all doctrines of the Bible about giving and receiving, and giving oneself to doing
them, establishes the heart in the Lord and promotes assurance of salvation.

Theme: TRUE RENEWAL - AN URGENT NEED
Text: Romans 12:1-2
Memory Truth: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will of God: (Rom. 12:2).
Renewal of the mind on one’s religious beliefs is common with man all the world over. In some
religions, the practice is more regular than others. Just as not every religion is a true one, so it is
with religious renewals. In the Christian faith, renewal of the mind is an instruction given to
both the ministers of the gospel and the laity to observe after they might have received the initial
experience of salvation which is by the Holy Ghost (Rom. 12:2; Eph. 4:23; Jn. 8:31; Tit. 3:5).
After one has gotten saved, a believer is required to renew his relationship with God from time to
time. Now and again in the Christendom, renewal programs and exercises are conducted or
undertaken by churches and individuals. However, not all the renewal programmes are true. In
this Study, we will show what true renewal is, then the reason for true renewal, and how to
get true renewal.
1 TRUE RENEWAL: WHAT IS IT?
True renewal is:
❖ that which createsa sound relationship with God, brings Him close and makes Him real
and also spurs into service for God (Tit. 3:5; Jer. 24:7).
❖ that which restores lost/ lukewarm relationship with and reverence for God and creates
implicit obedience to His word (Psa. 51:10; Deut. 5:29; Rev. 3:15).
❖ that which makes one realize that one is not one’s own, but has been bought with a great
p
r
i
c
e
,
so convinces one to present one’s body a living sacrifice to God (1Cor. 6:20; 7:23; 2Pet.
2:1; Rom. 12:1).
❖ that which motivates one to renounce self, stubbornness and worldliness to be like Christ
(Ezek. 11:19;Col.3:1-10).
❖ that which constantly checks the thoughts from being fixed on/filled with mundane things
pleasures and pusiuts but rather on heavenly things pleasures and pusiuts (Rms. 12:2-3).
❖ that which ensures the maintainance and consistent manifestation of the new life got true
salvation (Rms. 12:1; Heb. 12:1-4).
2. WHY TRUE RENEWAL?
▪ God, Christ, Holy Spirit and all things about God are either inconceivable or remote
without it (1Cor. 2:14; Jer. 24:7).
▪ Implicit obedience to God’s word and unreserved yieldedness are impossible except one
is truly renewed (Deut. 5:29; Jer. 24:7; Ezek. 11:19-20).
▪ Service for God is either impossible, boring, or ‘professional’ without it.
▪ Discovering of that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God in all areas of life is
impossible without true renewal (Rom. 12:2).
▪ Godliness - love, humility, patience, and other friuts of the Holy Spirit. cannot be
achieved except one is truly renewed (Ezek. 36:25-27; Col. 3:8-10; Gal. 5:22-23).
▪ True renewal removes self and promotes humiliy, unity and selflessness (Ezek. 11:19).
▪ Eternity with God is most unlikely without it (Ex. 32:32-33; Rev. 3:5; 21:27).
3 HOW TRUE RENEWAL COMES.
➡ Recognition of the need for renewal and genuine repentance from sin and short-falls (Acts 2:37-
38; Psa. 51:1-11).
➡ Implicit submission to the truth of the word and the Spirit of God (2Cor. 13:8; Gal. 3:1; 1Pet.
5:6), and judging self through the revealed truths in the Word of God (1Cor. 11:31-33
➡ Rejection of and seperation from error (1Thess. 5:21; 1Tim. 1:13; 2Tim. 2:16).
➡ By His word, Spirit and our prayer (Jon. 3:5; 6:63; Tit. 3:5; Gal. 4:19; Col. 2:1).
➡ Regular presentation of self before the Word and Spirit of God at fellowships for divine,
searching and cleansing of the mind (1Jn. 1:3, 6-10).
HEARKEN: In the light of all the fore-going, are you truly renewed?
N/B: If anyone claims to be a child of God, but has not passed through persecution experiences
either mildly or seriously, the one will not have had a complete experience of a child of God.
However, the mildness or seriousness of persecution depends on the type of people persecuting
and circumstances surrounding the person that has put on new life in Christ, and now being
persecuted.

Topic: PERSECUTION OR TRIBULATION (Part 2)
Text: Jn. 15:20; Mtt. 10:21- 25; 5:10-11; 2Tim..3:12
1. WHY PERSECUTION? OR REASONS FOR PERSECUTION (Jn. 15:18-24)
To turn to God in repentance and salvation through Christ Jesus, entails one coming out from
the world, putting on a life style that is unworldly. Being yet in the world and unworldly,
naturally attracts persecution from the worldly, earthly or carnally minded folks. They may be
relatives, friends, neighbours, business and other associates (Jn. 17:9-16). Based on this concept,
the bible points to a number reasons for persecution as follows:
➠ Lack of proper knowledge of the Father and Jesus His Christ — Jn. 14:1; 15:21; 16:3;
17:3; 1Tim. 1:12-13.
➠ The activities of the devil instigating the unbelieving ones against the children of God to
undo or discourage them — Gal. 1:13-14.
➠ The believers uncompromising stand and attempts to make them compromise — Acts
4:15-20.
➠ Envy from those who desire to become children of God but can’t pay the price — Acts
18:18-19; cons. Neh. 4:1-3.
➠ Influence and testimony of compromised or compromising believers — cons. Num. 13:27
- 14:10.
Persecution in a way is one of the elements of trials of faith. Those who fall out of faith due to
persecution are usually considered to have a faulty or shaky foundation (Pro. 24:10). The
persecuted is therefore enjoined to:
➢ Rejoice because persecution identifies one with Christ — Matt. 5:11-12; 1Pet. 4:12-13;
Act. 5:41.
➢ Love and pray for the persecutor sincerely, desiring that their eyes of understanding may
be opened — Matt. 5:44.
➢ Remember that persecution will come to an end and so endure — Matt. 10:21-22.
➢ Flee from the persecutor, when situation demands, such as threat to life or deformity —
Matt. 10:23; Act. 8:1-4; 9:23, 25.
➢ Always trust in the Lord and hold fast the faith. Those who endue persecution are highly
regarded in the sight of God, it is one great virtue of Christlikeness — Heb. 12:1-3.
The persecuted will have suffered in vain when in one way or the other, as a matter of laziness,
carelessness, foolishness or negligence the one attracts the persecution.
Having got assurance of salvation, none should relent or fall during persecution, but resist every
impression to go back, else the one suffers great loss.

Topic: PERSEUCTION AND TRIBULATION (Part 3)
Text: Jn. 15:20; Matt. 10:23,13,21; 5:10-11; 2Tim. 3:12
So far in our study on persecution and tribulation, we have defined persecution or tribulation, and
shown some of the forms in which they can come. We have also considered the reasons for
persecution and the proper response of the persecuted.
The importance of this topic regarding its place in the Christian experience cannot be over
emphasized. Persecution and Tribulation though an inescapable Christian experience can be
attracted to self by a believer, due to a number of reasons. When this happens the believer should
not count him or her self as being persecuted. Such persecutions have no regard or place in the
sight of God (1Pet. 4:12-16). In fact such sufferings don’t qualify for persecution. They cannot
be actually accepted as persecution in the proper sense of it.
The following are some examples of the attitudes than can attract unwarranted persecution which
attitudes can be avoided by wise actions, words and thoughts (Jam. 4:17).
Negligence and carefree attitude to responsibilities eg care of children, and proper care of
the home etc (Prov. 31:1-2,15)
Unbalanced and unmoderated spiritual, religious or Church activities eg. when a student,
prays while he should actually be on the way to school.
Unwholesome and impolite statements, to elders, senior officers and others (Prov. 31:26).
All the above are attitudes that can easily provoke the unbelieving ones around us to rise against
us in one way or the other. Even believers can be provoked to deal with believers in an
unfriendly manner in the event of such attitudes listed above.
Wise and godly, actions, words, and thoughts geared at countering the attitudes as listed above
will save believers from avoidable and unwarranted sufferings and troubles in the name of
persecution (Prov. 15:1-4, 18, 23-24; 25:11; 12:27; 31: 10-11, 15).
All who are passing the persecution experience should check properly and discover whether the
persecution they are passing through is justified or not.
If we know the right things to do we shall be happy if we do them (Jn. 12:13-17).

Topic: BEARING TESTIMONY
2. THE PURPOSE OF PRAYERS AND QUIET TIME (Matt. 6:5-8; Lk. 8:1-8; Eph.
6:12-18).
a. Prayers keep a live-line between a believer and God. (1Pt. 3:12)
b. Prayers offer the opportunity for a believer to praise, worship and give thanks to God on
diverse issues and pour out his/her mind on matters for God’s intervention (Mtt. 6:9-13;
Phil. 4:6).
c. Prayers draw God’s attention to a person and as long as one prays, God’s attention is
always drawn to the person (Lk. 18:1-8).
d. Prayers give believers a God centered focus while the focus on the world is reduced (Act.
6:2-4).
e. Prayers attract answers from God and help to build and establish the faith of a believer
(Lk. 18:6-8).
f. Quiet time affords one the opportunity of being easily reached by God, with instructions,
counsel directives and corrections (Gen. 3:8; 32:24-29).
g. Prayers and quiet time build one’s knowledge of God and enhances closeness to Him (Lk.
2:36-38).
h. Prayer is also an instrument of warfare against the powers of darkness and a means of
being watchful in the spirit (Eph. 6:12-13).
Christian Foundation Teachings (10)

Topic: PRAYERS AND QUIET TIME (2)
a. Choose a time when and a place where there will be minimum distractions and
disturbances (Mk. 1:35).
b. Choose some Bible study pattern, e.g.. Character study, book study, topical study, random
chapter study or as one is led, may be you can choose our outlines.
c. Keep a quiet time note book to record ministrations and points discovered in study.
d. Pray and listen to the spirit of God.
e. Prayer may be vocalized, sub-vocalized or meditative which ever one a person finds most
effective. As beginners the vocalized prayer is usually more effective. This helps to
guide against wondering thoughts. (1Sam. 1:9-13)
f. Vocalized prayer is recommended for people whose minds wonder about while praying
quietly or silently, this helps to keep the mind straight and under control while praying
g. Ask questions or go for counseling when points are not clear to you.
Christian giving can be in the forms of tithes, offerings, consecration of self and service, special
support for projects and missions, release of materials and or property for the service of God.
Tithes in a way differ from others, because it is the mandatory demand from God of a tenth part
(1/10) of whatever a believer earns as income or profit in business, which carries special blessings
for the giver and fearful curses for whoever denies God of it — Lev. 27:30-32; Gen. 28:22; Heb.
7:1-2; Gen. 14:18-20; Mal. 3:8-10.
Offerings entail giving unto the Lord apart from tithes, it includes those gifts given to the Lord
which are not tithes, but that given out of personal volition or free will, it may be material, cash
etc. Number 7:10-12.
One can also give by consecrating oneself, service or property to God. Luke 2:36-37.
Praise and thanksgiving are also included,as well as giving to the less privileged among us and in
the soceity at large Heb. 13:16; Prov. 28:27; 19:17.
Christian giving is acceptable to God when it is given:
♦ cheerfully (that is without grumbling and complaining 2Cor. 9:7)
♦ willingly and not forced out of one by coercion Exd. 25:1-2
♦ without strings attached and conditions given as to the use and administration of the gifts.
♦ without selfish motives, as to curry favour and become a sacred cow to church leaders
and not to God, or to influence men to ones favour.
It must be noted that when gifts are given to God, it becomes the prerogative of the Lord through
His chosen and appointed leaders and ministers to determine how, where and when best to
utilize the gifts, as is directed by the Spirit of God without any interference from the giver.
It must be said here also that only the best is good enough for God so in giving to God let us give
the best Gen. 4:3-7; Mal. 1:6-8.
We must not forget that the offering of a sinner/the wicked is abomination to God, especially
when it is brought with filty hands and heart; therefore, mend your ways, make peace with God,
your brethren and neighbours before offering unto God. Prov. 21:27; Matt. 5:23-24.
2. GIVING BEGETS RECEIVING Luke 6:38
Receiving is strongly attached to giving. It is the much one gives (in the right spirit and manner
of giving) that attracts receiving both from God directly or indirectly from God through others.
Whosoever shys away from giving does him/herself evil, for whosoever dodges giving also
dodges receiving. And whosoever gives freely and bountifully also receives freely and
bountifully, it is like the law of sowing and reaping 2Cor. 9:5-12.
Above all let us not just give unto God because we expect some things back, but because He is
God and is very worthy of our love, and bountiful gifts. He will not forget our labour of love to
Him Rom. 11:33-36; Heb. 6:10.
We are progressing in our series on Christian foundation teachings, so far we have covered seven
topics, and today we have come to the eight. It is believed that these teachings are making the
expected necessary impacts on our lives, or else it could be considered a waste. Like the other
seven we have already had, this 8th teaching has some definite purpose to achieve in our lives as
we listen and put it to practice.
Salvation will not have been thorough or complete if one still has some things or matters to
which the enemy can point at, to accuse, fault or make guilty the mind and conscience of the
believer. Therefore whatever offences that stand between a believer and some other persons are
supposed to be cleared in order to make free the conscience from offences and guilty. Also there
is need to make amends where necessary in cases where some other person may have been
caused injury of the mind by a believer, whether known by both parties or not Matt. 5:23-24;
Acts 24:16.
Restitution is therefore the principle of paying back, restoring and returning that which was taken
from another by force, craftiness, deceit, tricks etc. it also involves making right falsified records
and making peace with those one was offended with and those offended with one (Rom. 13:3;
Heb. 12:14). Restitution tends to right the wrongs done both before and after repentance. It is
when the above is done that it can be said in the language of our Lord Jesus Christ “salvation has
come into this house” (life) (Luke 19:1-9).
Even though some Christian bodies don’t or refuse to teach and emphasis this cardinal Christian
doctrine, here in WCCRM we can’t because we are committed to declare unto us the whole
counsel of God Matt. 28:18; Acts 20:26-27. This doctrine of restitution was taught and practiced
in the old and new testament Gen. 20:1-7a; 27:33-35, 38, 41; 31:3-5, 11-13; 32:9-13, 20; Matt.
5:23-24; Luke 19:8-9.
Restitution involves on a more earnest note, second wives separating from so called husbands
and so called husbands returning to their first wives as long as both parties are still living. A
second wife is not in the biblical concept of marriage a wife but a concubine. In the same light a
second husband are no husband but a concubine. Therefore the woman who was duly married
before, whose husband still lives should return to her husband, the second man is more of a
partner than a husband. Gen. 12:14-20; 20:1-18; 2:24; Matt. 19:4-6. Aside from this any other
practice whether in the bible or not is wrong. Restitution is however done under the proper
guidance and counseling of the Pastor.
The born again Christian is the one that God has called out of the world to be separate unto God,
not to conform to the principles of the world Jn. 17:6, 11; Rom. 12:2. The born again now
identifies with the things of God and not the traditional/customary practices of the people of the
world that know not God — Jn. 17:25; Eph. 5:11; 2Cor. 6:14-16.
The Lord commands that we come out from among them and be separate, so that we can be
received of Him 2Cor. 6:17-18.
This does not mean we must park out of our families or homes if our relatives have not believed,
but that we must not indulge or take part in their ungodly practices. We are to be separate in
conduct and attitude from ungodly things and practices. Even though we live in a world of
wickedness and sin we must keep ourselves from the world 1Jn. 5:19; James 1:27.
Sanctification goes to root out what ever remains of the depraved or sinful nature after the initial
fundamental experience of salvation. Such remains are responsible for attracting or rekindling
interest on the things one had given up at salvation (Heb. 12:15-16). Sanctification is also
referred to as circumcision of the heart (Deut 10:16; Jer. 4:4; Col.2:10-11).
Sanctification is made possible through the working of the Holy Spirit in the lives of those who
make themselves available to God without reservation (Rom. 12:1). The sanctification
experience is given impartially to those who present themselves appropriately to God for the
purpose. There is no preferential treatment by the LORD in this regard (Jms. 1:5).
Sanctification is divine, nobody knows how it is done. The believer rather does the following to
get the experience.
(1) Discover and realise the need thereof (2Cor. 13:5; Jms. 4:1)
(2) Develop a sincere desire and hunger for the experience (Jms. 4:2-3)
(3) Sincere and importunate quest in faith for the experience by prayers (Jms. 4:8-10).
(4) In the quest there is the need to realise that sanctification is God’s will and promise and
that God Himself is highly interested to grant the experience to sincere seekers and that
He (God) is faithful and so will grant the experience (1Thess. 5:23-24).
(5) Going through the above steps, rejoice thereafter for the experience is granted.
A Christian is one who has accepted to follow the faith which is according to the
teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. To be successful in the Christian faith therefore, one
has to be acquainted and conversant with what the Bible teaches. The reason being that,
the bible is the only authoritative document divinely given by God to guide every one that
has ought to do with God. To be Christian and yet ignorant of what the Bible teaches is
like travelling on a road without a sense of direction or sailing in a ship without a guiding
compass (Jn. 5:39; Col. 3:16).
The above has made it necessary for this study on what the Bible teaches which things we
believe as Christians and also propagate as outlined below:
1. That redemption from the curse of the law, Healing of sickness, as well as
continued Health are provided for all people through the sacrificial death or Jesus
Christ (Ex. 15:26; Deut. 7:15; Psa. 103:1-5; Prov. 4:20-22; Isa. 53: 4-5; Matt. 8:16-
17; 1Pt. 2:24; Mak. 16:15-18; Luk. 13:16; Jn. 14:12-14; 10:10; Acts 10:38; Jam.
5:14-16; 1Jn. 3:8; 3Jn.2; Gal. 3:13-14).
3. That marriage is binding for life. Monogamy is the uniform teaching of the Bible.
Polygamy is contrary to God’s perfect will and institution. The Bible forbids a
believer marrying an unbeliever. Also, under the New Testament dispensation, no
one has a right to divorce and re-marry while the first companion lives. When a
person becomes converted, necessary restitution, on this line, must be done
without delay if one has married wrongly (Gen. 2:24; Deut. 7:1-4; Josh. 23:11-13;
2Cor. 6:14-18; Prov. 31:10-31; Mal. 2:14-15; Rom.7:2-3; Eph.5:31-32; 19:3-9;
Mak. 10:2-12; Luk. 16:18; Jn. 4:15-19; Gen.20:3-7).
4. That the rapture (commonly referred to as the first phase or stage of THE
SECOND COMING OF CHRIST) is the catching away from the earth of all
living saints and all who died in the Lord. The Rapture will take place before the
Great Tribulation and can happen any time from now. “In a twinkling of an eye”
with a moment’s warning, “the trumpet shall sound” and the seed in Christ shall
rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with
them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the
Lord” (Jn. 14:1-3; Lk. 21:34-36; Cor. 15:51-58; 1Thess. 4:118; 5:4-9; 2Thess. 2:5-
7; Phil.3:11, 20, 21; 1Jn.3:1-3).
5. That resurrection of the dead is taught in the Bible as clearly as the immortality of
the soul. Every individual who has ever lived will be resurrected, some to honour
and glory and others to everlasting shame and contempt (Job. 19:25-27; Ps. 71:20;
Isa. 26:19; Dan. 12:2; Jn. 5:28-29; Cor. 15:12-27; 1Thess. 4:13-16; Heb. 6:1-2;
Phil. 3:8-11; Rev. 20:4-6, 12-13).
A Christian is one who has accepted to follow the faith which is according to the teachings of the
Lord Jesus Christ. To be successful in the Christian faith therefore, one has to be acquainted and
conversant with what the Bible teaches. The reason being that, the bible is the only authoritative
document divinely given by God to guide every one that has ought to do with God. To be
Christian and yet ignorant of what the Bible teaches is like travelling on a road without a sense of
direction or sailing in a ship without a guiding compass (Jn. 5:39; Col. 3:16).
The above has made it necessary for this study on what the Bible teaches which things we
believe as Christians and also propagate as outlined below:
The Bible Teaches:-
1. That the Great Tribulation will occur after the Rapture and will be a
time of terrible suffering on earth. It is also referred to as “the time of Jacob’s
trouble”(Jer. 30:7; Matt. 24:21, 22, 29; Rev.9:16; Mak. 13:18; 2Thess. 2:3-12; Rev. 13).
During this time, the antichrist will take possession of this world for a reign of terror. He
will not be a system of organisation but a person — a supernatural, diabolical being, in
the form of a man, who will blaspheme and claim himself to be God (Dan. 8:23-25;
2Thess 2:7-12; Rev. 13:1-10).
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb will take place above, while the Tribulation continues
on earth (Rev. 19:1-10).
2. That the Second Coming of Christ will be just as literal and visible as His going away,
and He is coming to execute judgement upon the ungodly. He will also, then, set up His
Kingdom and reign on this present earth for a thousand years (Zech. 14:3-4; Matt. 25:31-
46; 26:64; Mak. 13:24-37; 2Thess. 1:7-10; 2:8; Jude 14,15).
3. That Christ’s millenial Reign is the 1,000 years’ literal reign of Jesus Christ on earth
which will be ushered in by the coming of Jesus back to earth with ten thousands of His
saints. At this time, He will judge the nations that dwell upon the face of the earth (Jude
14-15; 2Thess. 1:7-10).
During this time the devil will be bound (Rev.20:2-3). It will be a reign of peace and
blessing (Isa. 11:6-9; 65:25; Hos. 2:18; Zech. 14:9-20; Isa. 2:2-4).
4. That the Great White Throne Judgement is when God finally judges all (the living and the
dead, small and great) who have ever lived on the face of the earth, according to their
works. This is after the Millennium. At this time the final judgement known as the
“White Throne Judgement”, will be held. All those, from all ages, who have not yet been
judged (believers’ judgement, as sinners was accomplished by Christ on the Cross Jn.
5:24; 3:17-19), will stand before God at this time. The devil and his angels are judged at
this time also and sent to the lake of fire forever (Dan.12:2-3; Matt. 1015; 11:21-24;
12:41-42; Jn.5:28-29; Rom.2:15-16; 14:12; 2Pet. 2:9; Jude 6; 1Cor.6:1-4; Acts 10:42;
Rev.20:11-15).
5. That the New Heaven and the New Earth “wherein dwelleth righteousness” will be made by
God and the redeemed shall dwell with God forever. This present earth which has been
polluted by sin will pass away after the Great White Throne Judgement (Ps. 102:25-26;
Isa. 51:6; 65:17; Matt. 5:18; 24:35; 2Pet. 3:10-13; Rev. 21:1). No unclean thing will be
there. We shall know each other, our knowledge having been perfected. There will be no
more curse upon anything. There will be no more night. The glory of the Lord will be
the light thereof (Isa. 66:22; 2Pet. 1:2, 13; 1Cor. 13:12; 1Jn. 3:2-3; Rev.21:1-7; 22:1-5).
6. That hell-fire is a place of everlasting punishment where sinners (all who do not have
their names in the book of life) will suffer torments for ever and ever.
It was prepared for the devil and his angels, (Matt. 25:41) but God has decreed that the
wicked and those who forget Him and reject Christ shall be cast there because of their sin
and neglect of His salvation (Ps. 9:17; Matt. 25:46; Luk. 12:4-5; 16:19-31; Matt. 5:22, 30;
Mak. 9:43-47; Rev. 14:10-11; 20:10, 12-15).
Generally speaking Charismatic can be said to be those who believe, advocate or manifest the
gifts of the Holy Spirit - the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, faith, healing, working of
miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, divers kinds of tongues and interpretation of tongues (1
Cor. 12:4-10). In a genuine charismatic movement, the fruit of the Holy Spirit - love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance must also believed,
advocated and manifested (since it is holy men of God who speak (and act) as they are moved by
the Holy Ghost (Gal.5:22-23; 2 Pet. 1:21).
The Catholic Charismatic Renewal, we understand, was started by a group of American
University students in 1967 on the basis of the notion that these gifts should be available today as
they were in the early church.
Today, we are sure that God was behind their action even though they might not have known it at
the inception just as Moses’ mother and sister (Miriam) did not know the impact of what they did
when Moses was born (Ex. 2:1-7).
The above fact notwithstanding, yielded Charismatic who are privileged to know that God has
programmed revival for the Catholics and others in this age also are not ignorant of the devices
of Satan geared at corrupting and hindering God’s prograammes from age to age (2 Cor. 2:11;
Gen. 1:31; 2:8-17; Gen.15:1-6; 16:1-5; Neh.2:17-19; Isa.14:12). Hence, we are
describing/discussing the following brands of Charismatic:-
1. UNSAVED CHARISMATIC
a. Their Mark:
They are born again, but unbalanced in their convictions, often as a result of ignorance, they
carry everything to the wrong extreme to the detriment of their welfare (physical and spiritual)
and that of others (see Hosea 4:6).
For some of them, if one does not have a dramatic form of conversion as themselves, the one is
not saved (comp. Acts 9:1-16; 10:1-8; with Jn.4:25-29, 39-42; 8:1-11). On hearing “love not the
world, neither the things that are in the world ....”, they started going about with unwashed
dresses and unamended shoes and were ready to pack out from schools (comp. 1Jn. 2:15-17; Isa
4:4 with 2Thess. 3:7-12; 1Cor.10:31). On hearing “study to show yourself approved...” and
“Pray without ceasing” and that “the time is short...”, they read the Bible and prayed and
preached at the time of work and neglect their responsibilities toward their wives, husbands,
children, parents, etc. (comp. 2Tim. 2:15; 1Thess.5:17; 1Cor.7:29 with Eccl.3:1-8; 8:6; 2Thess.
3:10-11; 1Tim.5:8-9). They are so spiritual (“in fact more spiritual than Peter and John” Acts
3:1) that entering the temple is a defilement. When they do they behave in such a way that they
attract persecution and hatred for themselves and the way truth is evil spoken of because of them
(Rom.2:24; 2Pet.2:1-2). In fact, they know not the application of 1Cor.9:19-23. In their
unchecked zeal to convey the truth, they never stop contemptuous comments on dignitaries
including the blessed mother of our Lord (in the days of His flesh - Lk. 1:41-43), nor realizing
that honour should be given to whom honour is due and that “in the multitudes of words, there
want the not sin” and that “in many things, we offend all...” (Rom.13:7; Prov.10:19; Jas.3:1-3),
thereby rendering themselves SACRILEGIOUS (Rom.2:22-24).
Their Ministry:
Theirs is the ministry of building and destroying both work and that of others. They are
hinderers instead of helpers (Neh.4:7-8; 1Cor.9:12; Lk.11:52).

ANALYSIS OF CHARISMATIC (11)
Text: Matt. 3:1-2, 5-8, 11, 13-17; 28:18-20; Mk. 16:15-16; Jn. 3:1-8
Assured of salvation and the manifest new life in Christ, any serious minded Christian should
seek after baptism in order to be fully integrated into the physical and spiritual Church and also
receive the grace for service unto God (Acts 9:11-20). Let us now go into some details on the
baptism issue as we consider the following points:
Baptism is both an outward and sin ward spiritual concept that demonstrates a believer’s full
acceptance of the Christian faith and identification with the ideals of the faith. Baptism is a
symbolic practice or act that identifies a believer with the experiences of Christ’s suffering,
death, burial, resurrection, and spiritual endowment. In a nutshell it identifies a believer, with
unique events in the ministry of Jesus Christ (Rm. 6:3; Cor. 12:13; Col. 2:13).
The word baptism derived from the Greek word baptizo means to bury. Therefore baptism
symbolizes our being buried into Christ and all that He stands for and represents. In the New
Testament of the Bible, there are two broad types of Baptism namely; Baptism in/with water,
and Baptism in/with the Holy Spirit (Act. 10:44-48).
(a). Baptism In/With Water (Act. 8:36-39; 16:31-33). This is baptism done to identify with
the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As Christ was actually put to death, so
the believer is put to death in all matters of sin and sinfulness through faith in Jesus Christ
(Gal. 2:20). As Christ was fully buried in the tomb, the believer is totally (not partially by
sprinkling or however) buried or immersed in water (Col. 2:12). As Christ resurrected
from death and out of the tomb so the believer rises out of water at baptism to continue to
live for God and His Christ in righteousness (Col. 2:12). Water baptism is a prerogative
of the ministers of the Church and is performed by them.
(b). Baptism in/with the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) (Matt. 3:11; Act. 1:4-5, 8). This is
baptism into the spiritual experiences of Christ, to bring the believer under the absolute
influence and control of the Spirit of God. It is a way of burying a believer’s self-will and
personal decretion and emotions under the overwhelming control of the Holy Spirit of
God (Act. 2:1-4; 4:31; 5:17-29). Baptism in/with the Holy Spirit is an exclusive
prerogative of the LORD Jesus Christ, and He grants the experience as He please (Matt.
3:11; Act. 10:44-47). The Holy Ghost baptism can also be granted by our Lord Jesus
Christ through the laying on of hands of His genuine ministers who have had the Holy
Ghost baptism themselves and have been endowed by Him to be channels of the baptism
by the Lord (Act. 8:14-17).
Conventionally the water baptism usually comes before Holy Ghost baptism, but the Lord who
searches the heart and knows the spiritual state of the human heart can grant otherwise (Act.
10:44-48).
To receive the baptism in/with water otherwise called water baptism one needs to have:
* repented of and confessed ones sins sincerely, after the one will have received the gospel
of Jesus Christ (Mk. 16:15-16; Act. 2:38).
* reposed a saving faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Saviour, and appropriating the
merits of His sacrifice on the cross for personal salvation (Jn. 3:14-18.
* decided to follow and identify with and abide by the gospel and teachings of Jesus Christ
(Mtt. 28:18-20; Act. 8:35-36).
* evidence of a new life in Christ and willingness to testify thereto openly and identify with
the body of believers (the true church of Christ) (2Tim. 1:8-9).
With all the above ensured one submits self for water baptism. In the process the one will be
immersed totally in water once in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
This is done by a genuine minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Note: water baptism is not for children who are not able to understand and believe the gospel
(Mk. 16:15-16).
The Baptism in/with the Holy Ghost otherwise called Holy Ghost baptism is an experience of
lunching deep into the over whelming experience of the Spirit of God, giving up self to total
control of the Holy Ghost. To receive the genuine of this experience one needs:
* to be sanctified, to be worthy to accommodate the person of this all Holy Spirit of God
(Acts 3:38; 8:14-23).
* to seek first the fruit of the Spirit which guarantees genuineness and stability of the Holy
Ghost baptism (Gal. 5:22-23).
* hunger and sustained desire for the Holy Ghost baptism by faith (Matt. 5:6; Acts 1:4-
5,12-14; 2:1-4).
* great desire and zeal to serve God or identify selflessly in His service (Acts 10:1-6,44-
46).
* exercise faith in Christ Jesus, and release self to God, letting Him take charge of ones
thoughts, actions, and senses.
Independently the Holy Ghost baptism could come upon one spontaneously, or by the laying on
of hands of one especially ministers gifted by the LORD to do so, who will have also gotten the
experience.
Trying to exercise personal control and restriction most times hinders or limits Holy Ghost
baptism. Speaking with new tongues unlearned by one is a common and more often than not, the
initial manifestation of the Holy Ghost baptism (Acts 2:1-4; 10:44-46). Other gifts of the Holy
Spirit due to the baptism also abound (Cor.. 12:3-11).
A believer who has experienced all the foundation Christian experiences as we have so far
outlined and studied can very solidly and firmly lay claim to genuiness as far as the Christian
faith is concerned. Beyond these experiences one therefore is enjoined to grow in grace unto
maturity in the faith. The following points will help our understanding of the study.
Every experience one has in life must have begun one day. So, also the Christian life
begins some day. As a new born baby grows to maturity, so the new believer grows in
grace to maturity (1Pet. 2:2). Growth in grace simply means consolidating on the
Christian experiences one may have received at salvation. In other words, it means
improving on ones experiences as a Christian. Growth in grace is the process of maturity
in the Christian faith, as one makes progress in every aspect of the Christian foundation
experiences (2Pet. 1:5-6).
Any living thing or a dynamic process that does not grow will die or extinguish. In this
light any experience one has which the one does not improve on will either remain
redundent or lost. Growth in grace is vital to maturity in faith. By growth one gets rooted
and established in the Christian faith and can be a means of reaching others for Christ and
establishing them too (Heb. 5:12-14).
A Christian that is not growing in grace can very easily fall victim of backsliding (2Pet.
3:8-9). Lack of growth in grace results in lack of fresh and deeper experience in the Lord,
as such one remains shallow in spiritual things (Gal. 3:1-3).
There are many ways one can achieve growth in grace, some of which are outlined below.
Doing the above, one will not in static in but growing in grace and faith.
In the first part of our study on this subject or topic we explained the term growth in grace,
showed the necessity of growth in grace and outlined few points on how to grow in grace.
Continuing today on the part 2 of the topic, it will be necessary to point out that growth in grace
has no limit. No one in the Christian faith can safely claim to have known all there is to know in
the faith or reached a level where the one has no more room for growth (Cor.. 13:9-10, 12).
Growth in grace therefore comes in stages which may be classified as follows: The Babe Stage;
The Maturing Stage; and The Full Maturity Stage.
This is a stage when a believer begins to get clarified on Christian tenets and begins to make
resolute efforts to keep the faith. At this stage the rudiments and essence of the faith is not
scaring, rather the believer desires more and more to learn and put to practice that which was
learnt. There is no more shyness in identifying with the faith and the brethren. The believer at
this time is adventurous. This stage in the faith is characterized by great zeal and enthusiasm.
Proper guidance is therefore needed at this stage to avoid errors of omission, commission or
conception (Gal. 4:13-18).
At this stage a believer is grown to render virtually unsupervised service. The one rather may
supervise others, having the ability to make proper and right judgments and decisions. This stage
is reached by study, prayers, diligence in the faith and carefulness. At full maturity believers
begin to occupy positions of responsibility in the house of God.
This stage is a delicate stage, because it carries with it the tendency of “I know it” which breeds
complacency. Most people at this stage hardly pay attention at fellowships. They may have read
the bible over and over again that they may see no need for personal bible studies again. Prayers
become more or less formalistic that it begins to lack the essential ingredient of communion with
God. The fully mature Christian is rightly and timely forewarned in the holy scriptures that a fall
is very possible (Cor.. 10:12).
What ever experiences one has gotten in the Christian faith, especially the foundation
experiences, can be lost if proper care is not taken to keep or maintain and nourish the
experiences, not just to maturity, but beyond maturity unto the end (Matt. 10:22). The foundation
experiences as has been said earlier, are those experiences upon which other experiences are built
or gained. When the foundation experience is lost then maturity and subsequent experiences in
the faith will become far fetched. It is therefore necessary to sound this note of warning and
awaken our consciousness to the great need of keeping and nourishing our foundation Christian
experiences.
The above introduction serves the need to keep and nourish the experiences seeing that they can
be lost. Also our adversary the devil is still alive and desperately working to stop any progress
one may desire to make in the faith, while seeking every means to destroy the experiences gained
already (1Pt. 5:8). The counsel is that he the adversary, the devil should be vehemently resisted
(1PT. 5:9).
How To Keep And Nourish Our Foundation Christian Experiences (1Pt. 1:1-2)
The basic way to keep and nourish our fundamental Christian experiences can be summarised in
the following points: self discipline, devotional Bible studies, fellowship with the brethren and
effective prayer life.
Self Discipline — This accounts for temperance in what we eat, do, and say. It also
helps to check our associations. Where these are not checked, they can become sources
of erosion of the Christian experience (1Cor. 15:33).
Devotional Bible Studies — This helps to keep one spiritually nourished. The
Christian experience being a spiritual one needs to be nourished by devotional Bible
studies, not just any how Bible studies (Jos. 1:8; Ps.16:1-2).
Fellowship With The Brethren — Iron, the Bible says, sharpneth iron, and a man
sharpens the countenance of his friend (Prov. 27:17). Fellowship with the brethren
rekindles the fire of faith that may be going down due to circumstances of life.
Effective Prayer Life — Prayers are lubricators, as well as energizers. Prayers lubricate
rusted and clogged spiritual lives. By prayers, one receives the oil of gladness from God
which keeps the mind stable and makes God, heaven and hell more real to the mind.
Prayers also release spiritual energy that makes the believer able to go for spiritual rules
and extra miles. It is a formidable weapon of spiritual warfare. (Lk. 8:1; Eph. 6:18).
Doing all the above the foundation and subsequent Christian experiences will be kept and
nourished to the end.
NB. All the brethren are hereby informed that our series of teaching on marriage will
begin the upper week Sunday at the time of foundation teachings .........am. Don’t
miss it as we may not repeat any of the teaching taken after we had passed it.
Marriage is a strategic aspect of life, which has in the recent past undergone a lot of twists
emanating from different schools of thought both religious and unreligious. Whatever the case
may be marriage is a divine institution, and only divine principles can suffice to address the
matters of marriage and its attendant circumstances. Taking from our text in Hebrews 13:4 we
will begin our series on marriage by analyzing that verse of the scripture as follows:
Marriage, “the act of one woman separating from her parents with consent of the later and being
joined to one man (also separating from his parents), the two now living and sharing their lives
together as necessary and accomplishing parts of each other; is a very strategic tradition or
institution from God Himself, having definite purposes (cons. Gen. 1:26-27 & 2:18, 21-24).
This is the reason it is Honourable or highly regarded in all its aspects by the Lord, and has been
so declared for all to observe.
Because of the fact that the Lord Himself instituted this coming-together of a man and a woman,
their bed is declared undefiled, though they share it together. This implies that the bed of the
unmarried (man or woman) is counted defiled if that unmarried has any thing to do with the
opposite sex on that bed.
If follows therefore that, if the bed of the unmarried be defiled by what is done with the opposite
sex on it, then the body of the said unmarried is much more defiled by the same thing that defiled
the bed, for the body is more sacred than the bed, in so far as the alter is more sacred than the gift
on it (cp. Matt. 23:18-19; Cor.. 6:18). Little wonder that the apostle remarked. “It is good for a
man not to touch a woman, instead, let every man have his own wife, (so as to avoid the danger
of defilement by touching a woman unholily) (iCor. 7:1-2).
What a lesson and warning to those bachelors and spinsters who visit one another and sit on the
sacred beds of the opposite sex, or do say any such things that amount to.. defilement.
In our last study, we considered a three-point introduction to the above strategic aspect of life.
These points are, (i). marriage honourable, (ii). the bed undefiled, (iii). whoremongers and
adulterers to be judged by God. In the study in hand, we shall consider the following points: (i),
the definition of marriage, (ii), the purpose of marriage, (iii), pre-marriage maturity.
1. Marriage Defined.
The perfect Biblical definition of marriage is “the act of a woman separating from her parents
with consent of the later, and being joined to one man (also separating from his parents), the two
now living and sharing their lives together as necessary and accomplishing parts of each other”.
This is what happened in such faultless Bible-time marriages as those of Adam and Eve (Gen.
2:18, 21-24), Isaac and Rebekah (Gen. 24:1-4, 9-26, 28-51, 53-67), and all other such marriages.
however, the Bible also has record of marriages that contradict this definition of “one man, one
wife”, such as Jacob’s (Gen. 29:15-30), king David (1Sam. 25:39-43), king Solomon (1Kgs.
11:1-3), etc. This is polygamy, the error of which shall be discussed as we come to the point of
polygamy in the course of these marriage teachings.
In instituting the union of marriage, the Lord had definite objectives in mind. They include the
following:
* The need for ‘companionship’, ‘helping hand’, accomplishment’ and the benefits derived
from them (Gen. 2:18). From the very beginning, the principle of “two are better than
one” was at work (cons. Eccl. 4:9-10).
* The need for reproducing, increasing and multiplying (Gen. 1:27-28 e.g. verses 21-22).
* Apart from the above original purpose of marriage, the need of the present to avoid
fornication and adultery makes marriage mandatory for those who are susceptible to
“burning” (1 Cor. 7:1-2, 9).
It is only such things that fall under these objectives that those married or wishing to marry
should pursue.87
3. Pre-Marriage Maturity
Marriage is full of responsibilities, more so as mankind degenerated into errors and the
associated difficulties. Therefore, marriage is not a business for teenagers, but of people who
have some substantial measure of maturity of mind and body - men and women (not boys and
girls) (cons. 1 Cor. 7:1-2). This is consolidated by the fact that Adam and Eve were created
mature human beings (not teenagers), before they were brought together as husband and wife
(Gen. 1:26-28; 2:18, 21-24).
NB: The next study will address such points as (i), urge for marriage, (ii), finding the will of
God.
So far in the current Foundation Teachings on marriage, we have gone through the following
points: marriage honourable in all, the bed (matrimonial) undefiled, whoremongers and
adulterers to be judged by God. We have also addressed the meaning of marriage, the purpose
of marriage and pre-marriage maturity.
In the study in hand, we are addressing the following point: urge for marriage.
To find a wife or a husband is to fine a good thing (Pro. 18:22). But prior to finding a wife or a
husband, there is usually some urge in the heart to get married.
a. Natural Urge: This is that which rises from the fact that one is of age, making one to feel
incomplete, unsatisfied, unsettled. This urge is inherent and latent, but could rise during
maturity. The reason for being inherent is the fact that Eve was made from a part taken
out of Adam, and when she was brought to him, Adam had a sense of completeness and
satisfaction (Gen. 2:21-31). So unmarried men and women could feel incomplete and
unsatisfied when they attain maturity.
This urge can arise in the hearts of both believers and sinners alike - bachelors, spinsters,
widows, widowers, divorced or separated.
b. Urge Through Circumstances: Apart from natural urge, there are certain circumstances
that can (if allowed) cause marriage-urge to rise up in the heart of the believer or sinner.
These include the following:
i. As the mind is allowed to be pre-occupied with thoughts of marriage and marital issues,
as others around get married or live the married life.
ii. As one considers difficulties which one thinks that being married would solve.
iii. As pressures to get married are allowed to come upon ones heart from ones parents or
relatives.
iv. As one yields to the yearnings of ones members, termed ‘burning’ (Cor.. 7:9).
As with natural urge, urge due to circumstances can come upon believers or sinners - bachelors,
spinsters, divorced, separated, widows or widowers.
NB: If restrained is not exercised, urge due to these circumstances lead people into error entirely,
hasty of wrong marriages.
c. Urge By The Lord: This kind of urge is often the privilege of those who defy maturity or
pressures, going ahead with their worship and service of the Lord, even being willing to
live celibate lives, if the Lord so desires.
Usually, at the appointed time, they will begin to sense a persuasion in their hearts to get married.
So far in the current Foundation Teachings on marriage, we have gone through the following
points: marriage honourable in all, the bed (matrimonial) undefiled, whoremonger, adulterers to
be judged by God and urge for marriage. We have also addressed the meaning of marriage, the
purpose of marriage and pre-marriage maturity.
In the study in hand, we are addressing the following point: Finding God’s Perfect Will in
Marriage.
a. THE NEED: The necessity for the believer finding God’s perfect will in marriage is rooted
in the fact that there is “the bone of his/her bones and the flesh of his/her flesh” (cp. Gen. 2:23).
It is also rooted in the fact that in many things, the very mind of God differs from his (the
believer’s) (Isa. 55:8-9; Rm. 11:33-34). This is the reason we have been commanded not to
make choice with our eyes, but to lean on the Lord (Pro. 3:5-7; Ps. 37:23).
Also the future of every man is only known to God. He only knows what shall befall any man at
anytime. Choosing by sight may lead one to a short lived marriage or the like.
Again, God is the only one who perfectly understands the temperaments of every man, and He is
in the best position to match them for life. We must always release our minds to accept God’s
choice for us, than take the risk of uncertainty. One cannot afford to gamble with a lifetime
programme like marriage.
Above all when God chooses a wife or husband for one, the one has a reference point, before the
Lord and a locus standi before God in times of need.
b. THE MEANS: The means of finding the perfect will of God in marriage is through asking
(by prayers) for guidance and waiting for same (Mtt. 7:7; Phil. 4:6; Ps. 37:4). Such prayers must
be from a heart that is free, a heart willing to receive whatever the Lord wants to give, knowing
fully well that the perfect will of God is the best for one. The prayers could be the type that
Abraham’s servant made asking for signs (Gen. 24:10-14; comp. Judg. 6:36-40). It could be
prayers just asking the Lord for guidance of whatever form, as He may choose.
NB: It is possible for one to have made selection in the heart and yet pray for God’s guidance.
This is hypocrisy, which thing often results in dreams from the devils, confirming what is already
in the heart (Ezk. 14:1-4). All that glitters, they say, is not gold. The things that are highly
esteemed by men may be an abomination in the sight of God (Lk. 16:15). The standards set by
men for themselves may be their undoing. The mind must be left unbiased, for God to direct or
lead it. Whereas, it is possible for a person to desire a thing, such desires must not be presented
as a yard stick for choice before God. Such will mean recommending to God what He should
give or leading the Lord to choose, whereas He (God) should lead us to choose or rather choose
for us.
We don’t choose a husband/wife and present to God to approve, rather He chooses for us and
plants His love/virtue to prove His choice (cons. Gen. 2:21-23). God brought the woman to the
man Adam and the Adam quickly recognized the woman as missing rib, and was glad.
Let us be careful to allow God to lead us, this is the best way. Remember that to find a wife is to
obtain favour from God (Prov. 18:22).
Our last teaching on the marriage series began to address the issue of finding God’s perfect will
in marriage. In that teaching we treated the need for and means of finding God’s perfect will in
marriage. Today we will dwell on, (1). God’s Choice and (2). Revealing God’s Perfect Will.
1. God’s Choice:
God’s choice of husband or wife for a child of God CANNOT be from among the unregenerated
(those who have not the salvation experience of Christ) (2Cor. 6:14-18). The Israelites were
prohibited from marrying or being married by the gentile nations that worshiped idols (Exo.
23:32-33; Deut. 7:2-4; Josh. 23:7-8; Ezra 9:10-12). Abraham knew this, so he made his servant
swear that he was not going to get wife from the Cananites for Isaac, but from his kindred, not
because of ethnic sentiments, but because there was knowledge of God with them (Gen. 24:1-5,
29-50). God cannot and does not contradict Himself, and He is not an author of confusion (Cor..
14:33). It will amount to self contradiction if God should choose an unbelieving husband/wife
for a believer, after instructing them not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers - 2Cor. 6:14-
17 (Holy things must not be given to dogs) Mtt. 7:6. God’s choice of husband/wife for a believer
will always be a believer. However, this is not indiscriminate ie. (any believer - brother to any
believer - sister). Among the believers there is always one perfect will of God among the lot for
every individual. God’s choice to be specific is that perfect will (Rms. 12:1-2)
There are very many options in the hand of the Lord in making His perfect will known to His
children, who are praying aright. The Lord uses the following methods among many others:-
(i) Dreams or other forms of revelation (cons. Mtt. 1:19-20; Act. 16:9-10).
(ii) Signs to convince and prove His choice (cons. Gen. 24:11-21; Judg. 6:36-40)
(iii) Some definite impression in the heart, usually very strong to be ignored.
(iv) Special love springing out for the person He is giving to the other.
It is advised that in order to avoid confusion and misconception, counsel of genuine, experienced
and spirit filled ministers of God should be sort for purposes of guidance and clarifications. God
has His way of making His leadings and revelations distinct from counterfeits of the devil, for
those who are careful, diligent and conscientious in their walk with Him.

Last week in our 6th study on the marriage series, we considered in some details the aspect of
Information To The Pastors Or Marriage Elders (Committee). Concluding that study, we
saw that after the necessary inquires, and confirmation of testimonies and investigation have been
made, the sister also confirming the brother’s leading or testimony and giving her consent, the
two can be allowed into courtship. Our study today will therefore dwell on; Courtship and
Parents Consent.
COURTSHIP
The English dictionary defines ‘courting’ as, “trying to win the affection of, (wooing) with a
view to marriage”. It also defines ‘courtship’ as, period during which courting (the process of
wooing) lasts.
For children of God, who have already known that God will have them marry each other, the
above definitions do not strictly apply. For such people, courtship is rather the period between
agreeing to marry and the payment of bride-price/handover of the woman to the man. It is the
period of discussing the would-be marriage, addressing such issues as information to
parents, parents’ consent, traditional requirements, and agreeing what should be done and
their timing. It is also the period of praying on knotty developments and all other issues,
and of knowing/studying each other’s temparaments better (the marriage committee usually
provides guide lines for courtship discussions).
Courtship is not a time of eating together, hilarity, or of discussing any issues that will lead
to behaviours or acts that are meant for married people, for such will be sinful at this time.
(Remember that courtship is not marriage, but a step to it). Furthermore, courtship discussions,
etc must be carried on in such places and manner that make for holiness (cons. 1Pet. 1:15-16;
2Pet. 3:11; 2Cor. 7:1). In courtship, one of the issues that need particular mention is parents’
consent, and how to go about it
PARENTS’ CONSENT
The first issue that should be addressed after two believers have known the will of God and have
agreed to marry themselves is that of obtaining their parents’ consent. The two will inform their
parents and present the intending husband/wife to them for initial knowledge and approval (cons.
Gen. 24:49-51). Sometimes, it is difficult to obtain the woman’s parents’ consent. When such is
the case, the intending couple must resort to prayers of faith, necessary explanations and
persuasions, as well as patience till the Lord turns their hearts (cons. Prov. 21:1; Phil. 4:6; Heb.
6:15). At other times, it is the man’s parents’ consent that is not fort coming. In such cases, the
same means as stipulated above should be adopted to make them yield. However, in cases where
the man’s parents are adamant, or not altogether agreeing, such circumstances should not be
allowed to vitiate God’s will or prevent the marriage indefinitely.
NB. Prior to securing, the woman’s parents’ consent, the woman can be said to be partially
engaged, but fully engaged or betrothed after her parents’ consent.

It is re-iterated here that, (i) in the life of the Christian, it is that which pleases the Lord that must
be done (cp. Mtt. 6:9-10; 26:39, 42; Jn. 8:29; Act. 21:14), (ii) the church is not a place of
confusion, but a place where all things are done decently, in order and to the glory of God (Cor..
14:40; 10:31). The previous study in this series took us through the following: (i). Courtship
and (ii) Parents’ Consent. Hereunder, we are considering, (i). Bride price.
1. Bride-Price
Bride-price is not like a price paid to own a slave, or some property for use. Rather, it must be
seen by the child of God as something agreed upon and given to a woman’s parents in
appreciation for their labour, care, effort, etc, in bringing her up and for giving her out to the man
for life. In most cultures around the globe, it is usually some agreed sum of money, nevertheless,
it could be service, as in the case of Jacob, Leah and Rachael (Gen. 29:15-28), or some other
thing (Gen. 24:53). Besides, it could be just a little gift given to and received by the woman’s
parents as token of acceptance and agreement that their daughter should go with the man. In our
cultures, courtship/engagement activities usually culminate in payment of bride-price/handing
over of the woman to the man.
Bride-price is distinct from dowry, which is “money or something given to the bride herself (eg.
Gen. 24:53; 34:12; Exo. 22:17; Jos. 15:18), or money/property brought by a bride to her husband
at marriage”. In the cultures under reference, the payment of bride-price is the conclusion of
traditional marriage proceedings. It is usually and immediately followed by the rite of “hand-
over”. Once this point has been reached, the law of the Lord prohibits withdrawal, whether the
couple be believers or not (RMS. 7:1-3; Mtt. 19:4-6).
Bride-price is usually not pegged at specific sums of money or things as the case may be. It is
rather an agreed sum as dialogued by the parents of the sister and the brother. Due to this factor
bride-price may differ in what is given to or received by different families within the same
culture.
It is necessary to say at this point, that bride price payment and the ceremonies that accompany it
must be done in such manners as give God glory. Extravagance, reckless and godless spendings
should be avoided, use of intoxicating wine or liquor must not be used or served, nuptial dances
of the couple to be should be avoided, seeing that marriage process is not yet completed.
Ungodly traditional practices, such as ceremonies to the dead, sacrifice to deities, appearing of
deities and all such like must be entertained.
It must be remembered that marriage is honourable in all, and the first person to honour in
marriage is God, by ensuring that marriage processes don’t kindle His offence.
At handover, the parents give/pronounce their parental blessings to their daughter, the husband
and the family they go to build together (Gen. 24:58-59).
N/B: It is possible to find parents who will not take any bride-price, yet give out their daughters
after the performance of other traditional rites. In such circumstances, the marriage law is also
binding.
Further to this, there are times when bride-price is paid in part, yet the woman is allowed to go
with the man. In such an arrangement, the above law is also binding.
FOUNDATION TEACHINGS (27)
Watchman Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement
Last week we treated bride price in some detail. In that study it was sufficiently stressed that all
things in the process of marriage must be done decently, in order and to the glory of God. The
payment of the bride price and the accompanying ceremonies, though a part of the traditional
marriage rites, also must be done to the glory of God. After the bride price has been paid and the
hand over done, what follows is The Solemnization Of The Marriage, and this is our topic for
today.
MARRIAGE SOLEMNIZATION
Though the law of marriage has become binding on two real believers that have reached the
traditional conclusion in marriage proceedings yet they must not return from there to live
together as husband and wife, for such would be sinful at this point.
For them, after filling their notice at the marriage registry and being cleared, they return to the
church with license of the marriage registry, not only to be legally joined together, but also for
the union to be ratified, sealed and blessed by Christ’s representatives, and witnessed by the
church.
In our Watchman circumstance, the would be couple, after filing their notice and being cleared,
also get legally joined together by the marriage registry.
Following this, they now return to the church (that is Watchman fellowship) for the necessary
ratification, sealing and blessing of Christ’s representative and witness by the church
(fellowship), before going to live together as husband and wife.
The rite of going to the church (fellowship) for ratification, sealing and blessing is informed by
the fact that God, as minister, ratified, sealed and blessed the union of Adam and Eve, when He
brought Eve to Adam. (Gen. 2:18; 21-23 and 1:27; 28).
For any person to argue that since marriage law becomes binding at the conclusion of traditional
marriage proceedings, those who have reached that point should to from there to live as husband
and wives is to reject the said divine ratification, sealing, blessing ans witness of the church,
thereby constituting themselves into an offence to God and to the church (con. Matt. 16:23; 18:7;
1Corinth. 10:32; 2Corinth. 6:3; Rom. 16:17).
Note: Marriage solemnization the way of true bible believers; does not negate or annual the fact
of marriage solemnized some other way by those who are not true believers. Such marriages are
seen as fully established marriages and does not need to be quashed or broken. If one or both of
the couples become believers. Those who are thus married must see themselves bound to their
marriages even after they have become true believers.

Topic: MARRIAGE SERIES (PART 10)
Hitherto, we have been learning both doctrines on marriage and rules that are to be adopted in
marriage proceedings. So far, many points have been covered. These include, marriage
honorable in all, the bed undefiled, whoremongers and adulterers to be judged by God,
definition of marriage , purpose of marriage and maturity prior to marriage. Others are, urge
for marriage, finding the perfect will of God, information to the pastor, courtship, bride-price
and marriage solemnization.
With the study in hand, we will conclude the pre-marriage issues up to married life or status, as
we deal with, (i) Believers’ Marriage Garments (ii) Believers’ Marriage Feasts.
Those who are true believers actually watch what they do with a view to ensuring that none is
scandalized. (cons. Matt 16:23; 18:6; Lk. 17:2; Rom. 16:17; 1Cor. 8:13; 10:32).
Marriage being an honourable thing, wedding garments must be presentable, yet modest, in
keeping with the injunctions on moderation and to the glory of God. Dresses that are tight
fitting, and those that expose the body delicately are rather offensive to God. Such dresses
negate the decency of marriage and holds no edification for the Church of God. Moreover,
should a couple coming to receive marriage blessings from God appear before the Most High
God barely naked? Or in dresses that promote worldliness rather than godliness?
Can offensive dressing of couples not earn them curses instead of blessings from God on the
wedding day?
At the fall of Adam and Eve, they became ashamed of their nakedness. God had to make
some covering for them (Gen. 3:6-11, 21). How come that couples who now come to God
for marriage blessings come barely naked or extravagantly and foppishly dressed depicting
showmanship. Any arguments against modest wedding apparel for true believers is to be
otherwise minded.(1Tim. 2:9; Phil. 4:5; 1Cor. 10:31).
The wedding apparel should be such that could be used at other times after the wedding.
Bridal trains, as in the unbelievers’ ceremonies cannot be considered uncostly, and
unworldly, as have been commanded (1Tim. 2:9; Phil. 4:5; Jn. 17:6, 14; 1Jn. 2:14-17).
Last week we considered Believers Wedding Apparel where it was shown that moderation
should be observed in dressing for weeding. Today we will go on to consider:
Marriage being an honourable thing (Heb. 13:4), marriage feasts are essential to make it so.
In that old, but good marriage proceedings of Isaac and Rebekah, this ingredient of honour
(the feast) was part of it (Gen. 24:54). Apart from this, the Lord attended a marriage
solemnization and provided wive for the feast (Jn. 2:1-11). He also used a natural human
wedding ceremony/feast to illustrate the divine marriage feast that has been slated for the
marriage of the Son of God and His bride, the raptured church, after the rapture (cons. Mtt.
22:1-14; Lk. 14:15-24; Rev. 19:6-9).
In the cultures of this country, because of the fact that marriage is honourable, the “dead”
make marriage feasts really elaborate and lavish. Of the type attended by the Lord (Jn. 2:1-
11), history says some could last as long as one week.
All these show that marriage feasts are Biblical and should be practiced by believers.
Though marriage feasts are Biblical and should be practiced, yet in practicing them, our
moderation must be made known to all men (Phi. 4:5). This means that to borrow money and
stage elaborate and lavish marriage feasts and become debtors thereafter would be sinful for
true believers.
In the issue of drinks at marriage feasts (or elsewhere), the one of alcoholic drinks, being
sinful, is not the practice of true believers. In argue that the Lord turned water into wine at
the marriage feast of Canna in Galilee, or that Paul enjoined Timothy to use wine is to
concede ignorance of, and/or un-yeildedness to the following truths:-
I. Wine In Scriptures: There are three categories of wine shown in the Scriptures,
vastly:-
a. “Wine”, as the unfermented and non-alcoholic juice, pressed out of the fruit
(ripe grapes) of the wine (Mtt. 26:27-29);
b. “Wine”, the fermented and alcoholic juice of grapes (Gen. 9:20-21; 19:31-35);
c. “Strong drink”, fermented and alcoholic wine made stronger by mixing with
some drugs.
ii. Wine Is A Mocker (Prov. 20:1; 21:17; 23:31-35; Gen. 9:20-25; 19:31-35).
It is because of the above situations that alcoholic wine was forbidden to priests,
nazarites (those separated and consecrated to God’s special service) and kings, all
being men separated for God’s service (Lev. 10:9; Numb. 6:3; Prov. 31:1-7; Lk.
1:15).
All born-again believers have been made kings and priests, therefore, have nothing to
do with alcoholic or strong drinks. Those who argue in favour of alcohol have
nothing to do with God’s service.
At the marriage feast of Canna, the Lord could not have made alcoholic or strong
drinks, since He knew all the above Scriptures and would never have done contrary to
God’s word (cp. Heb. 10:9). Also, apostle Paul’s advice to pastor Timothy was not to
enjoy alcoholic wine or strong drink, but to use some wine as medicine for his ailment
(1Tim. 5:23).
CHRISTIAN FOUNDATION TEACHINGS (30)
Watchman Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement
So far in our marriage series we had dealt with pre-marriage issues in some appreciable
details. The last study we had on The Believers Marriage Feast marked the end of our
studies on pre-marriage issues.
Today, we will begin to look into issues that arise as a couple complete their pre-marriage
programme and begin to live together as husband and wife. There are a number of issues to
be considered in this section of the study, but today we will concentrate on Forces Against
Marriage.
The brain behind all things militating against the matrimonial union of two believers and
indeed any marriage is Satan, the devil. This is proved by the fact that he (Satan) and his
angels are mischievous in nature (Jn. 8:44), contend with the saints (Eph. 6:12), tempt to
disobedience (Gen. 3:4-5; Matt. 4:1-3, 5-6, 8-9; Jn. 13:2; Acts 5:3), slander them (Job 1:9-
11), oppose the righteous (Zach. 3:1), prey upon believers (1Pt. 5:8; Rev. 2:10), remove the
good seed (Matt. 13:19), sow the tares (Matt. 13:38-39), blind the minds of unbelievers
(2Cor. 4:3-4), among other acts.
Because sound marriage relationships are indispensable means to sound societies (including
the church), Satan and his angels attack these unions vehemently, either directly or indirectly.
Some of their wicked devices are as follows:-
* Tempting married people into sinning against one-another, including the sin of
unfaithfulness (cons. Jn. 13:2; Acts 5:3)
* Removing the good seed - virtue (Matt. 13:19; Lk. 22:31) and planting tares - vices
(Matt. 13:38-39; Jn. 13:2) through squabbles arising from the fact of differing
backgrounds, levels of knowledge and experience, habits, or from neglect, etc,
thereby creating lack of interest.
* Causing the intrusion of relatives “friends” or “well-wishers” for those who know not
the truth of “leaving and cleaving”. (Gen. 2:24; Matt. 19:4-5).
* Causing them not to regard the Word of God as the code that must rule their marriage.
Today, we will take on another vital point of successful marriage which is the fact and
understand of The Two Shall Be One.
Marriage can hardly stand the test of time if the principle of turning two into one is
not received, imbibed and practised by couples.
The two shall be one is reflected in many if not every aspect and facets of marriage
such as
a. Finances
b. Decision making
c. Planning for the family
d. Children care and upbringing
e. Resource management and extended family care.
Communication and sharing of feelings are made possible in a home when the two
become one. Differences and disagreements are also resolved easily where the two are
one.
The two shall be one is God’s principle of keeping the rule of leaving and cleaving
until death parts a couple. As the LORD has ordained, let the two be one.
Our last study on the marriage series, dwelt on Divorce and Re-marriage. That
study opened our eyes to the biblical truth on the controversial issue. It is
believed that all who participated in that study will have their questions on the
issue of divorce and re-marriage settled.
SEPARATION
Believers and even others have been commanded not to separate, but to remain
married (1Cor. 7:10; Rom. 7:1-3). There is no circumstance in our Christian
context where a believing wife (a sister) is permitted to separate, but rather
remain unmarried, as 1Cor. 7:11 appears to suggest.
With regard to those who are Christains, but married to those who are not
because they were married as unbelievers, the perfect will of God in marriage is
“no divorce” (Rom. 7:1-3; Matt. 19:6-9; 5:31-32; Lk. 16:18). Also, their
remaining together is buttressed by the fact that their matrimony and children
have been sanctified by the fact of their being believers, and by the fact that
they could be instruments of salvation to their unbelieving spouses (1Cor. 7:12-
16).
NB. Those who quote “if the unbelieving depart, let him depart ..............”
(1Cor. 7:15) should consider the fact of the perfect will of God on divorce and
the apostle’s remark in verse 12 in which he clearly stated the source of such a
permission as entirely his not the LORD’S. It becomes rather questionable that
any true believer should know the perfect will of God and put it aside to take a
permissive counsel of the apostle, who clearly declared such as not the will of
God.
So far in our teaching on marriage we have gone through pre-marriage issues and have
come a long way on issues in marriage proper. Sensitive issues like separation,
divorce and re-marriage have also been discussed Sound Marriage Relationship, with
roles of husbands and wives were outlined. In this study we want to look into some
more details one of the fundamental issues in a sound marriage relationship; the issue
of Leaving And Cleaving.
The principle of leaving and cleaving is one principle that was pronounced when the
marriage was originally instituted. It has to be noted that to cleave, one has to leave.
Put in another way, one has to leave in order to cleave.
In some quarters, wives claim that the instruction was given to the husbands only Gen.
2:24. To this end such wives find it difficult to detach themselves from their pre-
marriage relationships. The role of leaving and cleaving applies to both husbands and
wives as follows:
The Wife
The wife by marriage physically leaves her parents (the maiden home) to live in with
her husband. The husbands house becomes her actual and bonafide home (Gen.
24:50-57, 58-61, 66-67). By this principle the woman on account of marriage
necessarily leaves her maiden home to join her husband in his own house. The wife
having done as above needs not be enjoined again to leave. She should however
understand, that bringing her relations to interfere in her marriage after she has left
them, will be like returning again to her maiden home after marriage which is
prohibited by the LORD (Mk. 10:9). It contradicts the principles of leaving and
cleaving. It will also be foolishness to have a wife leave her parents and other
relations and not cleave to her husband. Naturally the leaving begets the cleaving.
The Husband
The husband is expressly instructed to leave his parents and other relations to cleave
to his wife (Gen. 2:24; Mk. 10:6-8). This is because the husband does not leave his
home physically to join his wife, rather the wife leaves to join him. (Gen. 24:62-67),
the husband’s side is more vulnerable the tendency of parental interference than the
wife’s, hence the express injunction to the husbands (Gen. 2:24).
Neglecting this rule will simply man challenging the authority that instituted marriage
(Mk. 10:9; Mtt. 19:6). Leaving parents and failing to cleave to wife is simply
unnatural. Where there is a genuine leaving there will of necessity be a consequent
cleaving naturally.
