1. Identify and describe 8 non-verbal cues.

1. Facial Expressions- Even though we only have one face, it can exhibit a wealth of
expressions. From a half smile, to a full-blown smirk, to a casual eye shift, our
facial expressions demonstrate a range of emotions.

2. Gesture and Movement- a movement that you make with a part of your body,
especially your hands, to express emotion or information.

3. Eye Contact- People place a lot of stock in eye contact. If you're talking to
someone and they don't look up at you at all, you're going to feel put-off and
ignored. But, the fact that someone's looking down a lot can also mean they're
shy. Someone lacking in confidence tends to have trouble making and
maintaining eye contact.

4. Physical Touch- that refers to the ways in which people and animals communicate
and interact via the sense of touch

5. Nod- tilting your head up and down. It is a sign that you are agree on something.

6. Emotion- easy to determine what is your feeling right now.

7. Voice- non-verbal use of the voice such as gasp or sigh

8. Behavior- behavior such as movements that indicate that you are calm and
unaffected.

2. Consider a communication exchange you had recently. What non-verbal cues were
present? What type of eye contact, body language and facial expression did you
observe? Did you have difficulty interpreting the non-verbal cues? Did the non-
verbal cues communicate anything that was at odds with the spoken language?

Non-verbal communication refers to all those messages excluding spoken

words. Those messages are body language such as gesture, facial expressions, eye
contact and body posture. For instance, smile on our friends face on seeing us,
before they utter even a greeting word, when we go to meet them after long time
indicates that he or she is happy to see us. Non-verbal communication helps us to
communicate easier by eye contact, body gestures, etc.
I’ve still remember the last time I use non-verbal as a communication with
my best friend. My best friend saw something that makes us laugh. She only use
eye contact to communicate with me. They say true friends can communicate
through the use of eye contact. Funny, we are one of them. My other experience
of non-verbal communication is with my mother. We all have experience if our
parents wants to tell something that we need to do or get. Instead of saying “kunin
mo nga yang gamit sa lamesa” they are just using their pointing their finger to
command or communicate with us. I also have experience communicating using
facial expression. When my boyfriend did something that makes me feel mad. I
only used facial expression by wrinkling my forehead just to express that I feel
mad. But not all the times you can easy communicate in using non-verbal
communication. Sometimes there’s a barrier that can cause to not communicate
easier. Everybody does not prefer to communicate through non-verbal
communication with others. Sometimes it cannot create an impression upon
people or listeners. It is less influential and cannot be used everywhere. It is
cannot be used as a public tool for communication. Sometimes it is difficult to
understand and requires a lot of repetitions in non-verbal communication. Since it
uses gestures, facial expressions eye contact, touch, etc. for communicating with
others which may not be understandable for the other people.
But for me, non-verbal communication helps us to communicate easier
and you can easy to express your feelings or emotion. It can also help deaf people
to communicate easier with them.
