The structural design of Metro Rail Station Roof is done in accordance with the applicable Indian codes
of design Practices viz., wind load application as per IS 875-Part-III and Frame optimization is done
as per IS:800-2007. Computer programs have been used where ever applicable to determine the
structural requirement.

Introduction
This document covers the structural analysis & design of Steel Roof Station for Navi Mumbai Metro
Rail Project. The scope involves geometry generation in STAAD Software, Load calculation,
Generation of load cases & Load combinations, performs analysis. Check member adequacy for
serviceability & Strength criteria as per IS800-2007 Code.
Building Description
Columns are made of Built up I section and spaced at 20m. Transverse trusses are spaced at 5m and
supported on Longitudinal Jack beams of 20m length.

Design Codes:
All buildings included in this Project, are designed in accordance with the following codes:
Hot rolled sections and built up sections are designed in accordance with:
IS:800-2007, Code of Practice for General Construction in Steel.

Load Assumptions For Analysis
Roof Dead Load(DL) @ 0.10 kN/m2 for Self Wt of Purlins & Roof Sheeting.
(as per table 2 of IS:875(II) live load for curved roof, horizontal greater than 10˚,
(0.75-0.52ϒ²) but a minimum of 0.4 kN/m2)
Wind load and Coefficients application for wind speed of 44m/s is considered as per
IS : 875 Part-III-1987.

Design Assumptions
The roof purlins and girts are continuous beams supported at rigid frame locations
and spans along bay spacing of the building. For continuity, lap is provided.
Purlin and Girts are designed with ‘Z’ shaped member of size 175mm depth and
2.5mm thick.
