CHARACTERS:

• Lumnay

• Awiyao

• Madulimay

DESCRIPTION:

• Lumnay - In the Wedding Dance story, Lumnay is Awiyao's ex-wife, who can't bear a

child. She was left by Awiyao because they would not be allowed by their culture to

continue their union. In the tribe, Lumnay is the best dancer.

• Awiyao – In the Wedding Dance story, Awiyao is considered as the lead male in the

narrative, he has been Lumnay’s husband for seven years. He left his wife, Lumnay for

Madulimay because after their union for seven years, Lumnay couldn’t able to produce a

child for Awiyao.

• Madulimay – She is the new wife of Awiyao, who is younger than Lumnay, and with whom

he hopes to have children with.

TYPES OF CONFLICT:

• Lumnay – (Man vs. Self/Herself) - her inability to give Awiyao a child.

• Awiyao – (Man vs. Society) – Since he couldn’t have a child with Lumnay, he decided to

marry another woman because according to their tribes law " A man who marries a woman

who can't bear a child must leave that woman and marry another." So, despite their love

for each other, Awiyao decided to separate with Lumnay and marry another girl whom he

hopes to have children with.

AN IMPORTANT DECISION MADE BY THE CHARACTER:

• Lumnay – Even if it’s truly hard decision for Lumnay, he let his husband, Awiyao go and

separated from each other.

• Awiyao – Awiyao’s important decision was based on their tribe’s custom, He separated

with his former wife, Lumnay due to the inability to produce a child and as per their

tradition, “A man who marries a woman who can't bear a child must leave that woman and

marry another.” And that’s what Awiyao decided.

• Madulimay – Based on their culture, she decided to marry with Awiyao despite the fact

that she knew that Awiyao is married to Lumnay.

OUTCOME OF THIS DECISION

• Lumnay – It became painful for her but if you truly love a person, then happiness is the

only thing you want for them, even if you're no longer part of it and that’s what Lumnay’s

did. Have you ever heard the saying “If you love someone, you'll let them go?". Despite

how upsetting it is to Lumnay, she let Awiyao go, not just only because it is in their tribes’

law but because he will not be happy without a child.

• Awiyao – Awiyao separated with Lumnay and marry another woman with whom he hopes

to have children with.

• Madulimay – became married with Awiyao

SUGGESTED ALTERNATIVE DECISION

• Lumnay – I suggest that Lumnay prove her love for her husband, no matter what tradition

their tribe has, nothing and no one can forbid the love for each other. Lumnay should fight
for her love with Awiyao although it is difficult to competence love over traditions but for

as long as they knew and love each other, you’ll not give up on him.

• Awiyao – Awiyao should choose love over the tribe’s culture and tradition.

• Madulimay – For Madulimay, despite their tradition, I suggest Madulimay shouldn’t marry

Awiyao. Because at some point, she knew how Lumnay had felt when the couple had been

separated because of the inability to produce a child.

POSSIBLE OUTCOME

• Lumnay – If Lumnay prove her love to her husband, maybe she wouldn’t felt desperate

and worthless and they could be in a happier situation with a happier ending as they live

their lives together.

• Awiyao – Although society do expect with the lives of married couples, it’s not completely

part nor included in the relationship for as long as Awiyao didn’t get affected. Maybe,

they’re both living a happier and contended life now.

• Madulimay – She wouldn’t be felt the guilt of marrying a man who’s married to another

woman.
