REFLECTION ON ‘ASSURE MODEL’

By: Jericko Magistrado

This model incorporates Gagne’s events of instruction to assure effective use of

media and technology in instruction. Because of ASSURE model’s emphasis on using
educational technology in improving teaching and learning, it answers my questions of
the early stage of my teaching journey such as why needs technology in content
delivery or course assessment, what technology works best for a course context, and
how to use technology in enhancing learning experience. This model will help me
relieve pressure in selection of technology and tools because of its comprehensive
media and material selection process that anchors on the audience or learners’ profile
and learning needs. I won’t have to guess what works best or what nots, the uncertainty
of teaching and learning will be close to none.
In the era of technology and most of the learners today are keen to these stuffs,
we get the best of both aspects. Especially with the global health crisis we are facing
today and the demands on enhancing e-learning and blended learning due to the
remoteness of the learners. ASSURE Model is probably the best way to enhance
learning amidst the pandemic with technology and media. Also, because ADDIE is
based on the development of the instructional materials, while ASSURE allows for the
fact that often –useful materials already exist that can be used as is, or slightly modified
to accommodate the instruction, ASSURE model has its best-fit in enhancement not
new development. By integrating a variety of assessment and content delivery methods
through technology and media, an online course or blended learning could engage
learners with incredible interaction and connection.
However, the learners’ accessibility of different technology and media is a limiting
factor to this model especially here in our country. All students may have phones but not
all of these phones are ready for online learning, internet access may vary in different
areas and other high end gizmos are limited. Pre-teachers and teachers alike will just
have to maximize all resources and make use of traditional materials and media.
Because there is not a “perfect” design forever, it is necessary to improve an existing
instructional design product by any possibilities.
