1. PRECAUTIONS FOR HANDLING

1) As the rotary joint is tested before shipment for ready to use,

on-site readjustment is not necessary.
2) Store the rotary joint in clean and stable condition until you install it.
3) Avoid impacting on the rotary joint or using it as steps.

2. PRECAUTIONS FOR INSTALLATION

1) Remove foreign objects out of flow passages of piping system and rolls to
prevent them from coming into seal surface. In case that the fluid contains any
foreign objects, install a proper strainer.
2) Mount the rotary joint on the rotation axis of the roll or drum without eccentricity
or tilt. For thread type use Teflon tape for sealing tapered thread. For flange type
place a gasket between two flanges and tighten bolts equally.
3) The inspection hole on the casing of the rotary joint is to detect fluid leakage
from the sliding seals. When mounting the rotary joint, the hole needs to face a
floor surface (needs to be at the lowest point). If the hole is not in that way or
covered with something, the leakage stays inside the casing and damages inside
parts such as ball bearings etc. As the result it can cause a serious accident.
4) Use flexible tubes for connection of the rotary joint and piping system. Avoid
using rigid pipes so as not to apply stress on the rotary joint.
5) Proper length of the tube is 300 ~ 400 mm for 20A or below, 400 ~ 600 mm for
25A and 400 ~ 800 mm for 32A or above.
6) When you connect the flexible tubes to the rotary joint, be careful not to leave the
tubes in twisted condition. Such installation will shorten the lifetime of the tubes.

HOW TO CONNECT TUBES

7) Avoid such pipework where the rotary joint receives load by other equipment like
a valve. Rotation stopper should be used only to prevent the casing from rotating.
Do not apply any force to the rotary joint other than one for anti-rotation.

3. MAINTENANCE

Performance of the rotary joint varies depending on fluids or operating conditions

even if it is carefully installed. Installation condition also affects the performance of the
rotary joint. The seal ring and the bearing wear away by long term use. By replacing
these parts with new ones at an appropriate time, the rotary joint can be re-used.
Leakage from the sliding seal comes out from the inspection hole.

WARNING
・OPERATION WITH FLUID LEAKING CAN CAUSE A
SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

・REPAIR THE ROTARY JOINT OR REPLACE IT WITH NEW

ONE IMMEDIATELY.

3-1. Disassembly
1) Loosen the Cap Screws (17) and detach the Head (3) from the Casing (2). Then
take out the Bellows Assy (7).
2) Loosen the Cap Screws (18) and detach the Cover (4). Then take out the Rotor
(1) with the Ball Bearings (5).

3-2. Checkout
Clean the disassembled parts and check whether they are attrite or damaged.
Especially below surfaces need to be checked carefully.
1) Seal surface of the Rotor (1)
2) Seal surfaces of the Seal Ring (6)
3) Seal surface of the Bellows Assy (7)

3-3. Part Replacement and Repair

Repairable seal surface needs to be re-lapped. When replacing unrepairable or
un-reusable parts with new ones, use genuine parts of our company.

3-4. Assembly
The procedure of the assembly is in reverse order to the disassembly. Pay special
attention to the seal surfaces. When dust adheres on them, wipe it off, using a soft waste
cloth with thinner.
1) Confirm the Oil Seals (9) are attached to the Casing (2) and the Cover (4).
2) Insert the Rotor (1) with the Ball Bearings (5) to the Casing (2).
3) Attach the Cover (4) to the Casing (2) with the Cap Screws (18).
(For flange type insert the Cover (4) to the Rotor (1) before pressing the Ball
Bearings (5) into place.)
4) Attach the Seal Ring (6), the Bellows Assy (7) and the Gasket (11) to the Casing
(2). Then attach the Cover (4) to the Casing (2) with the Cap Screws (17).
5) Detach the Plug (15) and feed grease from the Grease Nipple (14). Then attach the
Grease Nipple (14).
6) Perform running-in before flowing fluid to the rotary joint.

3-5. Lubrication
The type AC of Pearl Rotary Joint requires lubrication at appropriate interval. Feed
grease from the Grease Nipple (14) after detaching the Plug (15).
* The grease fed in the factory is [Daphne Eponex SR2].
* Feeding too much volume of grease is not good as well as grease shortage.
* The interval of lubrication is listed below. (only as a guide)

Temperature ( C ) Interval
0 ~ 150 Every 3 months
130 ~ 150 Once a month
150 ~ 180 Once a week

4. OPERATING PRECAUTIONS

1) When starting to flow high-temperature and high-pressure fluid, gradually increase

the rotational speed and the fluid pressure. Confirm no abnormal rotation (shaft
runout, abnormal sound etc.) nor leakage from the seal portion and gaskets.
2) While it is in operation or while flowing high-temperature and high-pressure fluid,
stay away from the rotary joint as far as possible and avoid skin contact.
3) Do not continue the operation with shaft runout.
4) Do not leave the rotary joint without operation for a long time. It may lead a bad
result by formation of rust.
5) When leakage is confirmed, close the valves immediately to stop
supplying fluid to the rotary joint and halt the operation of the machine.
6) Before detaching the rotary joint from the machine, make sure that the fluid
pressure in the rotary joint is 0 and the temperature is room one.
7) Avoid dry operation (without fluid) for a long time.
