Proctor & Gamble Announces Anti-Dandruff Shampoo

Proctor & Gamble Company announced today the release of a new shampoo to combat dry, itchy

scalps: Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp Care with moisturizers and fragrance.

“The shampoo’s formula contains one percent pyrithione zinc, which helps improve flakiness and

itchiness,” said Dr. Lindsey Bordone, dermatologist and assistant professor of dermatology at Columbia

University Medical Center, where the product was developed. Dry scalp conditions affect more than 30

percent of the national population.

“This is the latest product in P&G’s hair-care line and it is the first that has been proven effective

at removing dandruff and tackling its root cause,” said David Scott Taylor, chairman, president and CEO

of Procter & Gamble, citing the Columbia University Medical Center’s research. The product comes with

a 100 percent guarantee that hair will remain flake-free if used every day, he added.

The consumer goods company has been developing an anti-dandruff shampoo in response “to

current anti-dandruff remedies that were a chore to use, smelled terrible, and left your hair feeling flat,”

said Taylor. “We also added extra benefits like moisturizers and fragrances to make it enjoyable to use.”

Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp Care comes in three sizes and is available at stores throughout the

United States. It retails between $4.00 and $8.00.

Procter & Gamble serves consumers around the world with brands including Always®, Bounty®,

Charmin®, Crest®, Dawn®, Downy®, Febreze®, Gain®, Gillette®, Head & Shoulders®, Oral-B®,

Pampers®, and Tide®. The P&G community includes operations in approximately 70 countries

worldwide.
