ABSTRACT

Integrated engineering is a latest trend to solve problems. To be able to design a product

using an integrated technology will be beneficial to any engineering problems and a huge
contribution to the community. Traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of fatalities.
An important indicator of survival rates after an accident is the time between the accident and
when emergency medical personnel are dispatched to the accident location. By eliminating
the time between when an accident occurs and when the first responders are dispatched to the
scene decreases mortality rates, we can save lives. One approach to eliminating the delay
between accident occurrence and first responder dispatch is to use in vehicle automatic
accident detection and notification systems and also Tracking a vehicle in case of any theft
has become a tough job. This project aims at developing a more compact ,precise and
accurate model. In this project when a vehicle meets with an accident immediately Impact
sensor, Vibration sensor, Micro electro mechanical system (MEMS)sensor will detects the
signal and sends it to ARDUINO(Atmega328). Immediately microcontroller sends the signal
to GPS module to give the exact value of the geographical coordinates which contains the
value of longitude, latitude and altitude. After that the microcontroller sends the alert
message through the GSM module to the medical rescue team, Police control room, and the
near and dear one’s. Once the medical help center get the location of accident, it will inform
the medical rescue team which in near to the location of the accident so that the victim can
get the treatment as fast as possible. Also in case of any theft our project facilitates the owner
to get his vehicle’s position in terms of Latitude and Longitude by giving an SMS to owner

INTRODUCTION

It is very difficult to find that an accident has occurred and to find the location where it has
occurred. It is more difficult for the lives of victims until any person know the information
and informed it to the emergency vehicles like ambulance or to the hospitals. And Every year
thousands of vehicles are stolen in the roads and unsecured car park. Sometimes, steals try
to steel the vehicle parts by opening doors or breaking glass. Because of this people are
afraid to park the vehicles in the road or unknown car parks. To avoid this problem many
designs and techniques have been designed and implemented in the vehicles. However
designing a vehicle tracking system and interfacing the monitoring by the owners
mobile phone will be the absolute solution for the current situation and the need.

Wireless innovation has tilted the odds in favor of success like never before. This
report details how the Vehicle tracking and Accident alerting system is going to be
implemented. In this project we program GPS, GSM modules to report the Location where the
accident occurred automatically via the GSM communication platform using Short message
service to the agencies such as hospitals, police stations, fire services giving the exact
position where the accident had occurred. This can provide early response and rescue for
accident victims , saving their lives. Also in case of any theft this system provides the user to
track the vehicle location in terms of Latitude and Longitude. This project is cost effective and
is based on Arduino Uno(ATmega328microcontroller). This controller is used to co-ordinate
all the activities in the system.

To design Vehicle Tracking and Accident Alerting System with the help
of GPS(Global Positioning System) and GSM (Global System for Mobile
Communications ) Technologies.

OBJECTIVES
To achieve this aim, the following tasks are to be carried out.

I. This project aims at decreasing the mortality rates which occur due to
time delay between the crash and the first responder at the accident
site.

II. To provide the owner to track his vehicle any time via mobile phone .
LITERATURE SURVEY
In the recent past, there have been many technological developments. With the help of
those technologies we could find the position of the Vehicle in case of any theft or an
accident

 Mohammad A. Al-Khedher et al.(2012)proposed - Intelligent Anti -Theft and

Tracking System for Automobiles where the Track details are sent to the user
via SMS having link Directing to Google Earth.

 Navod Payagala et al.(2016) proposed a system for Vehicle Monitoring

Controlling and Tracking byusingAndroid Application. The Details regarding
Tracking are updated in Android App which user has to install in his device.

 Anitha Chepuru et al.(2019)proposed a system for Vehicle Monitoring

METHODOLOGY USED TO DEVELOP
OUR PROJECT

Fig:1
OVERVIEW OF TECHNOLOGIS USED:

GPS (GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM):

 The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a constellation of around satellites 31

satellites orbiting the Earth at 20,180 km of orbital height which transmit their
positions in space as well as the precise time.
 GPS make it possible for people with ground receivers to pinpoint their
geographic location Using radio waves. GPS receivers collects data from the
satellites and computes its location anywhere in the world based on information it
gets from the satellites .
 The location accuracy is around from 30 to 500 cm. GPS equipment is widely
used in science and has now become sufficiently low-cost so that almost anyone
can own a GPS receiver.
 In our project we will be using NEO-6M GPS MODULE .The module comes with
a patch antenna having 161 dBm sensitivity.
Fig 2(a). GPS overview fig .2(b) NEO-6M GPS
MODULE

GSM (GLOBAL SYSTEM FOR MOBILE

COMMUNICATIONS):

 The Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) is a standard developed

by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) to describe the
protocols for second-generation (2G) digital cellular networks .
 The GSM uses Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying (GMSK) , 8PSk modulations .
 It makes use of narrowband Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) technique
for transmitting signals for providing voice and text based services over mobile
phone networks with 124 frequency channels.
 One of its great strengths is the international roaming capability.
 In this project we will be using SIM 900A GSM module which uses 890 - 915
MHz to send information from the Mobile Station to the Base Transceiver Station
(uplink) and 935 - 960 MHz for the other direction (downlink).

WORKING :

ACCIDENT ALERTING SYSTEM

 After an accident occurs disturbance is created in Impact ,vibration sensors will detect
signal or If vehicle rolls over, a Micro electro mechanical system (MEMS) sensor will
detects the signal ,In case of any Fire accident the IR flame sensor will gets triggered
and sends it to Arduino(ATmega328).
 When ATmega328 reads the signal from MEM sensor, Impact sensors , Fire sensor it
sends the signal to GPS module to give the exact value of Latitude and Longitude .
 The GSM module used in the system has a provision for SIM( subscriber
identification module) .We program the GSM module such that by using a SIM the
GSM sends the information fetched from the GPS i.e., Latitude and Longitude of the
vehicle in the form of SMS (short Message Service) to the Medical recue team,
Police control room, Fire Station , Near and Dear one’s of the Driver
 SMS is governed by GSM service provider of the owner.

STAGES INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT ALERTING SYSTEM:

VEHICLE TRACKING :
 In case of any theft the Owner of the vehicle has to send a message
code via SMS to the SIM or he can make a call to that number used
in the GSM module of the System .

 In response to the Call/SMS the Arduino fetch the Latitude and

Longitude from the GPS . Then by using GSM it will send the
recieved Latitude and Longitude of the Vehicle to the User’s device
in the form of SMS.

 There by this proposed system will give real-time location in terms of

Longitude and Latitude to the User making ease in finding vehicle .

STAGES INVOLVED IN VEHICLE TRACKING:

Applications:

 The applications for this project are in military, navigation, automobiles , aircrafts
etc.

 Fleet Management
Commercial fleet operators are by far the largest users of vehicles.

 Rescue Operations & Emergency Services

The core emergency services, ambulance, police and fire fighters, besides the
auxiliary emergency services can make use of this project. This allows a closely
coordinated and integrated offering of services to the citizens in distress.

 Recovery of Stolen Vehicle

The nightmare of owner is the loss of their asset. But with the help of Vehicle
Tracking system, which provides location and helps in recovering the stolen vehicle.
.

Advantages:

Disadvantages:

 In case of bad whether conditions and when the user is in areas where the mobile
networks are no strong then it will be difficult to send the fetched data from the satellite
via GSM network.
Expected Results / Conclusions
I. When vehicle met with an accident it will send the Location of the vehicle in terms of
Latitude and Longitude to the phone numbers in program dumped in Arduino (i.e.,
near and dear one’s, Ambulance, hospital, fire station )

Fig: 5

II. In case of any theft the owner has to send SMS or make a call, immediately he will
get an SMS containing the vehicle’s Longitude and Latitude.

CONCLUSION

Every human life is precious and worth saving . Life should not end on road
waiting for help in a crash. This projects shouts out for help where we are
unable to shout for help. Few models had been developed previously on
Vehicle monitoring and Tracking . Our project aims at developing a more
compact , precise and accurate model.
