Here are the steps I think we should perform with portal

We have to download the software for OracleAS Portal 10g Release 2 (10.1.4).

We should have a server for setting up a Oracle Portal on a new server

We have to check for the MTR and the MTRs list was given bellow.

Then comes the Installation of OracleAS Portal where we have to follow the steps that are given
in the document attached. On a summary we can say.

A new installation of OracleAS Portal 10g Release 2 (10.1.4) consists of three phases:
 Oracle Application Server Infrastructure Release 10.1.2.0.2 Installation
 Oracle Application Server Middle-tier Release 10.1.2.0.2 Installation
 Oracle Application Server Portal Upgrade to 10g Release 2 (10.1.4)

Accessing OracleAS Portal After Installation

Steps involve accessing the OracleAS portal through the URL in the browser.

Configuring OracleAS Portal During and After Installation and then comes the basic
administration and configuration.

The attached document with this includes details of installation process.

Supported Versions of Oracle Application Server Portal

Note: Oracle Application Server 10g R3 (10.1.3.X) is not a full product release.  It contains Oracle SOA Suite and OC4J.  There
are no Web Cache, Infrastructure and Portal for 10.1.3.X. 
You need the components from 10g R2 (10.1.2.0.2) to work with 10.1.3.X.

        Both installation types can be performed using the software available with Oracle Application Server 10g Standard Edition or Enterprise Ed

Applicable for Linux x86-64:
     Note: Oralce Identity Management and Oracle Metadata Repository install in a single Oracle_Home is not supported
     Note: Oralce Metadata Repository database MUST be at least on Oracle database 10.2.0.2 version
     Note: Ultra Search component (from database companion CD) is required to create the Repository
     Note: Use Metadata Repository Creation Assistant (MRCA) 10.1.4.0.1 to create the Metadata Repository
     Note: Please refer to Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Red Paper, Installing Oracle Middleware with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne on Linux
Systems, for installing a Metadata Repository and a Portal environment.

Oracle Application Server Portal and Oracle Application Server Wireless type Middle-Tier (10.1.2.0.2) installation is required.
Oracle Application Server Middle-Tier Portal and Wireless 10g R2 (versions 10.1.4 or 10.1.4.2) is an upgrade only product.  Portal and Wireless
10.1.2.0.2 must be installed before upgrade to Portal and Wireless 10.1.4.
Note: OracleAS Portal is not a standalone upgrade product, it is part of Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.3 patch set (p5983622) and OracleAS
10.1.4 must be installed prior to upgrade.
Note: Please refer to Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Red Paper, Installing Oracle Middleware with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, for upgradin
installing a Portal and OID environment.
 
Note:  For AIX 6.1 Oracle Application Server Middle-Tier (Portal) starts at 10.1.4.0
 
Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) is supported starting with EnterpriseOne Tools 8.98.0
Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) configuration contains two parts: Producer and Consumer
      Producer This is the OC4J server where the remote portlets are installed.  Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.x Producer is not supported.
      Consumer The portal server
The Following are the restrictions to configure WSRP with EnterpriseOne Portlets:
 -         Compression in not supported, set EnableCompression=false in jas.ini file of the Producer
-          using SSL WSRP URL to register a Producer is not supported.
 
 
The following patches are required, only with OracleAS Portal 10.1.4 as a Consumer server in order to use Web Services for Remote Portlets (W
Skip these patches if you are upgrading to OracleAS Portal 10.1.4.2.
-          P6880880 Download and apply the Universal Installer (Opatch 9i, 10.1 version) from My Oracle support.
-          P5209277 A new ptlpatch.csh is required for UNIX/Linux platforms only.
-          P5014821 Repository Patch, requires PORTAL schema password
-          P6324377  Repository Patch, requires PORTAL schema password
-          P4893121  Midtier Patch
-          P5521052  Midtier Patch
-          P6393088  Midtier Patch
 
The following patch might required with OracleAS Portal 10.1.4.2 on Windows and Solaris platforms if you have bitmap display issue with WSR
-          P6393088  Midtier Patch to correct some display issues.
 
For following patch is required to correct the Portlets Refresh issue on Portal 10.1.4.2.  This patch is not available on Portal 10.1.4, you must up
10.1.4.2 in order to apply this fix.
-          P9086086  Correct the Portlets Refresh issue
 
Note:  Oracle provides some critical updates to Portal periodically, please review the Recommended Patches for Portal 10.1.4.X [ ID 460362.1]
additional patches that may apply to your configuration.
 
Please follow the readme.txt file from each patch on how to apply the patches.
