Evidence: Take a break

Select a celebration around the world and describe it according to the format.
Include images to illustrate your ideas. You can find and example in Introductory
material section 1. Describing celebrations and special occasions around the
world. You have to make your description in minimum 250 words.

What it is The Venice Carnival is an
celebrated. annual festival full of magic
that transports you for a few
days to 11th century Italy.
The festival started in 1162
when many people
gathered in Saint Marcos
square to celebrate the
victory of the Republic of
Venice against the
patriarchate of Aquileia. But
it was not until the 13th
century when Carnival was
declared an official holiday
by the Senate of the
Republic of Venice. And in
addition there are already
written references from that
same century on the use of
masks in Venice.
Where and The festival is celebrated
when it is between the months of
celebrated. February and March in
Venice, Italy and lasts 10
days. The dates of the
Venice Carnival are linked
to the celebration of Lent
and, specifically, to the
dates of Holy Week. The
Carnival in Venice ends on
the Tuesday before Ash
Wednesday, and begins two
Fridays before said
Tuesday.
What people The people wear elaborate
wear. costumes with their
respective and recognized
masks, each of the masks
has a special meaning and
they represent typical
characters of Venetian
folklore.
What people The people participate in
do. different activities such as
costume parades, dances,
mask competitions, city
tours, theater plays,
enjoying typical Italian food
and taking lots of photos.

Why it is a This carnival is special


special because not only can we
celebration. enjoy the magic of the city
of Venice, we can also learn
about all the history, culture,
architecture that this city
offers and we can enjoy the
kindness and hospitality of
the Venetians.
