We compare values of coins and bills by using the relation
symbols > (greater than), < (lesser than), and = (equal to).
MODELLING:
Direction: Look at the amounts written on the board. Then,
answer the following questions.
Tingnan ang mga halaga ng perang
nakasulat sa pisara. Sagutin ang mga tanong.
Amounts of Gifts
Belle ----- P 60.00
Shine ----- P 100.00
Zmartee ----- P 45.00
Althea ----- P 50.00
Zabby ----- P 45.00
How will you say it? (One hundred pesos is greater than sixty
pesos.)
Show how to write the “greater than” symbol.
(P 100 > P 60)
Compare the amounts of gift between Zmartee and Althea.
(Forty-five pesos is lesser than fifty pesos.)
Show how to write the “lesser than” symbol.
(P 45 < P 50)
Compare Zmartee and Zabby’s amounts of gifts.
Forty-five pesos is ___ forty-five pesos. (equal to)
Write it in symbol: (P 45 = P 45)
INTERACTIVE PHASE:
Direction: Count and compare the total amount of money
using the relation symbols >, <, =. Write it in the box.

CONCEPT:
The commutative Property of Addition
- states that changing the order or place of the addends
does not affect the sum.
The Associative Property of Addition
- states that changing the grouping of the addends does
not affect the sum.
The Identity or Zero Property of Addition
- adding zero to a number does not change the number.
MODELLING:
Direction: Look at the picture of the flowers.
Tingnan ang mga bulaklak.
Identity or Zero Property of Addition
+ =
In the picture, when you add 2 and 0, what sum do you get?
2
When we add any number to zero, the sum is also the
number itself.
Commutative Property of Addition
+ +
a. = What
addition
sentence can you give for the first picture? 5 + 3 = 8
second picture? 3 + 5 = 8
b. What do you notice about the position of the addends?
The addends change is order or position Did the
addends change? the sum doesn’t change
c. What is the sum of 5 and 3? 8 3and 5? 8
d. What can you say about the sum? Are they equal? The sum
of the two is the same Why? It is the position or order are
being change and not the number
+ + = (2+3) + 8
2 3 8 = 5 +8
= 13
= 2 + (3+8)
2 3 8 = 2 + 11
= 13
INTERACTIVE PHASE:
Direction: Match the sum in Column A to the commutative
property of addition sentence in Column B. Write your
answer on the blanks.
Pagtambalin ang Hanay A sa commutative property of addition
sentence na nasa Hanay B. Isulat ang sagot sa patlang.
A B
1. 12 ___ a. 3+ 6 = 6 + 3
2. 24 ___ b. 10 + 14 = 14 + 10
3. 9 ___ c. 8 + 4 = 4 + 8
Direction: Add and write the answer on the space provided.
