Covers academic English vocabulary, grammar and communication skills at CEFR level B1+. Students will engage with a broad range of articles,
reports and introductory academic texts, write coherent argumentative essays, and communicate effectively in an academic context using a
range of vocabulary and grammar structures at the B1+ level, as assessed by an external, benchmarked academic English proficiency exam.

201610 FND M010 Foundation Math 1

This is the first course of the Foundations Math program. FND M010 course focuses on developing a strong basic foundation in mathematical
concepts. The course is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills to join the second Foundations Math course, FND M020, on
successful completion, with a minimum average score of 60%. In addition, successful completion of FND M010 course will be considered as
having met Foundations Math requirement to join two of the HCT BAS programs, Applied Communications and Education.

This is the second course of the Foundations Math program. FND M020 focuses on developing strong basic skills and proficiency in Algebra and
Data Analysis to equip students with the math skills to succeed in the BAS program of their choice. Successful completion of FND M020 will be
considered as having met Foundations Math requirement to join three of the HCT BAS programs: Business, Computer Information Science and
Health Sciences. Students planning to join Engineering program must also complete FND-M030.

The practicum is central to the Bachelor of Applied Science in Education. In the "Beginning Teaching" phase of the programme, students
complete a 10-15 day practicum in a primary and/or kindergarten setting. During this placement they will observe, implement and reflect upon
learning highlighted in the education and methodology strands of the programme. Students will document current practice and undertake a
minimum of two, paired or individual teaching activities with small groups of students under the direct supervision of the MST.

The central component of the education programme is the supervised teaching practicum. Continuing the "Beginning Teaching" phase of the
programme, student teachers complete a practicum over a 10-15 day period in a primary and/or kindergarten setting. Under the direct
supervision of the MST, student teachers will apply strategies learned in corresponding courses to teach a minimum of three, paired or individual
teaching activities to an entire class for part of a lesson. This should include one start, middle and ending.

201710 LSC 1103 Academic Reading and Writing 1

This is a first year course focusing on basic research and academic reading and writing skills, and connects reading to vocabulary acquisition and
to the production of academic-style essays containing references. Students apply techniques such as brainstorming, organising and planning to
generate ideas, as well as drafting, revising, editing and proofreading written work.

201710 LSS 1123 Methods of Scientific R & D

Students are introduced to the basic principles of scientific research and innovation and creativity. Theory content provides a basic grounding in
core concepts of scientific research and innovation and creativity such as the basic characteristics of science and its relation to knowledge plus
flexibility and originality that characterize the innovative mind. The Course will discuss basic steps of scientific research from choosing a research
