Strategy:
Strategy is a planning for long term goal, indeed. But it all starts from the strategic
analysis—analyzing and evaluating the appropriate date to identify the external and
internal key drivers in terms of Challenges and Opportunities, Resource capacity &
Organizational Structure in order to craft the required strategic actions that could lead to
the goal, which is an essence of strategy.
Strategy is all about determination of a long term goal, acquiring the necessary courses of
an action i.e. strategy actions- Mission, Vision & Value Statements and allocating the
required resources in order to attain the goal. The strategy includes both deliberately and
emergent dimension while it emphasize on the difference and competition also recognize
the co-operation and following trend.
ELEMENTS OF STRATEGY: LONG TERM, DIRECTIONS & ORGANIZATION.

Long Term: the long-term element of the strategy can be measure by assessing the
company investing horizon. There is three-horizon model which has categorized further
on basis of the nature of operation and approach. The main essence of 3 horizon model is
to assess that for how much period the strategy will lasts.
Horizon 1: Continuous innovation in terms of extending and defending the core business
operation in the short term. It lasts for 1-3 years.
Horizon 2: Extend the existing business model and core capabilities to find new customer
market and target in short to identify another source of the income. It lasts for 3-5 years.
Horizon 3: Conduct new business to take advantage of or to respond to disruptive
(Innovation) opportunities or to counter disruption (Challenges). In short, seed for
creation of new capabilities. It lasts for 7-12 years.
Strategy Directions: Strategy usually follows the long term direction in terms of the long term
goal’s achievement or set of an actions to help in achieve an organization strategy. The type of
strategic directions are Mission, vision, objectives, values and the other factors that are essentials
to define an organization’s purpose and goal.
Strategy directions of some companies could be to attain the market and customer which they
have targeted or could be profit maximization. It depends on the nature of business.
Organization: Organization should not be considered as an closed group entity but it’s spread
outside in terms of having external connection/relation and internal too i.e. Stakeholders,
Shareholders, suppliers, customers, alliance, partners, regulators and relationships.
The organization environment is an essential and significant factor while forming the strategy for
it.
PURPOSE OF STRATEGY: MISSION, VISION, VALUE & OBJECTIVE
The purpose of strategy is to define the clear and larger purpose of an organization i.e. how to
make a difference and for whom the change/difference matters. The purpose is explain through
Mission, Vision, Value and Objective statements.
Mission Statement: Mission statement is all about the organization’s fundamental and purpose;
to define that for what the business actually exists and how make a difference, and for whom.
Example can be given of a random biscuit company—we care of the people’s health and diet by
making a qualitative biscuit.
Vision Statement: Vision statement seeks to create its distinctive identity i.e. what to do we
want to achieve as an organization. The vision of a random Service provider company could be:
‘Not the name but a trademark that everyone wants to affiliate with it.
Statement of Value: it defines the core and enduring principles which a company should acquire
in its operations and activities and guides the organization’s strategy. A statement of value for a
random could be like ‘Integrity with efficiency’
Objectives: these are basically the target of an organization over a period of the time or
statements of outcomes that are to be achieved. The objective for a random company could be
the profit maximization to certain figure, market and customer targets or efficient prices structure
etc.
