OF OFFSHORE
ANCHORING
ENGINEERING :
THE ADDED VALUE
FROM THE MARINE 29

LOC GROUP OFFSHORE MOORING
LESSONS LEARNT
• Common challenges in offshore mooring
• Accidental Limit State (ALS) – Need to confirm robustness of mooring
configuration through consequence of critical line losses
• Installation challenges – Depends on soil and marine spread available (e.g.
for the deployment of drag anchors) and temporary anchoring
management
• Operational discrepancies between design and as-built – Split anchoring
campaign and mooring campaign to allow adjusted design
• Marine Warranty Survey – Expert insurance witness on-site to confirm that
the construction is handled properly (> 50 MWp FPV site). Offshore wind
used to have similar installation reliability challenges than floating solar
now faces.
• Alternative mooring configuration exists as well as components to smooth
the peak loads (i.e. aquaculture)
