ARTWORK: The Art of COCO
➢ The film COCO is a 2018 Academy Award-winner for Best Animated Feature
Film and is about a story of an aspiring musician named Miguel. Confronted with
his family's ancestral ban on music, enters the Land of the Dead to find his great-
great-grandfather, a legendary singer. Despite his family’s baffling generations-
old ban on music, Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his
idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. Coco is about Dias de las Muerte (Day of the Dead),
family, family crises, and musical passion. It is a movie that touches the hearts of
the viewers, it is not just a children’s movie but is for everyone. A family-oriented
and beautiful film. For me, the movie COCO is one of the many artworks of
Disney Pixar and it is made for us to realize that it is not too late to forgive, the
family is everything, seize your moment, and many more lessons.
➢ Coco is a film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney
Pictures. Based on an original idea by Lee Unkrich, it is directed by him and co-
directed by Adrian Molina. The film's voice cast stars Anthony Gonzalez, Gael
García Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Alanna Ubach, Renée Victor, Ana Ofelia Murguía,
and Edward James Olmos. The concept for Coco is inspired by the Mexican
holiday Day of the Dead. The film was scripted by Molina and Matthew Aldrich
from a story by Unkrich, Jason Katz, Aldrich, and Molina. Pixar began developing
the animation in 2016; Unkrich and some of the film's crew visited Mexico for
research. Composer Michael Giacchino, who had worked on prior Pixar animated
features, composed the score. With a cost of $175 million, Coco is the first film
with a nine-figure budget to feature an all-Latino principal cast.
3. What is its style?
➢ The film COCO is a good movie and I will rate it as 10/10, I'm not lying. A
touching and sweet film about how important family is and how you must always
follow your dreams. Beautifully drawn and written. It's visually stunning. Coco is
vibrant, feel-good, and optimistic and, although the story transports the audience
to the Land of the Dead, it’s a colorful, captivating place – not somewhere cloudy
and quiet. I love how the characters portray the roles. And also the twist of the
movie, which is unexpected. It is just worth watching! It is indeed a work of art.
