GENERAL OVERVEW

This book is created to help students, especially year 4


students, to understand better the poem ‘The Holiday Memories’
by June Crebbin. This book contains literature components such as
the tone and the mood of the poem and to relate rhyme and rhyme
scheme to the poem. This book also included the definition of
stanza, lines and what is syllable, but most highlighted part about
the book is the fact that we use parts of the poem as examples, to
make it more clearly to the students.

To shine some light to the students, this book also includes


literary interpretation of each stanza. This is to guide the
students on the literary components that is contain in each
stanza. This book also contain the interpretation of the poem.
This book also included activities to not only test the student’s
understanding of what they had learn about the poem but also
to ensure that they would apply all that they have learn to
answer simple problem solving question.

WHO IS THE POEST?

June Crebbin
A poet, is the person who wrote the poem. The poet
for the poem ‘The Holiday Memories’ is June
Crebbin. June Crebbin is a British author. She was
born in Leicestershire in 1938. She is an ex-primary
school teacher who then became a full time author.
Her time as a teacher was cut short as she went on
an early retirement to pursue a career in writing.
June Crebbin loves to write. She has written over 40
children’s book as well as poetry. Many of her ideas
are based on true experience and moral values.

Why you should read the poem ?

The poem is appropriate for


year 4 students because the
language that was use is really
simple and easy for the students
to understand and because of
that, it is easier to understand the
interpretation of the poem. Not to
mention that the poem itself
ignites imagination and
encourage the sense of adventure
towards students who reads it.

Title
This poem is about the persona’s adventure(a little boy)
during his imaginary holiday. In this poem, he had describe
his adventures of kick boxing with a kangaroo, travelling to
Mars, defeating a pirate and many more. In this poem, he
choose to let his imagination run free which was stated in
almost every line of this poem thus enhancing a child’s
sense of adventure and to let your imagination run free

Theme

The theme of the poem is being more imaginative and


adventurous. The poem itself is about how a boy can
imagine a whole holiday trip just in his imagination.
Children should let their imagination run free as they would
turn into dreams that they wanted to come true thus
making them more ambitious to make it come true. Being
adventurous also helps enhance children’s courage and
would help them to be more braver in perusing certain
objectives.

WEAKNESSES

1. Due to the simple language that the poet


has used, this poem does not have a lot of
literary devices such as simile, metaphor and
etc.
2. Even though it is good to let your
imagination run free, the content like the
part where the boy defeats the pirates may
give the wrong impression to students that
they can fight a pirate when they see one.

STYLES

The poet uses simple language to


ensure that students can understand
the meaning as this poem was intended
for young children. The combination of
simple language and simple sentence
structure, can make you as students
understand how the poet describe the
events, the objects and ideas that is in
the poem. The style itself makes you
understand the tone and mood that the
poet is trying to use.
