Activity 11 Code of Ethics and Teaching Standards Relationship

Directions: The Code of Ethics foe Professional Teachers was founded on the standards stipulated by the
Teaching Council. Analyze the provisions of the Code of Ethics and identify which provisions are related to the
following Teaching Council Standards.
1. Teachers should be caring, fair and committed to the best interest of the students/pupils entrusted to
their care.
 ARTICLE VIII- Section 2. A teacher shall recognize that the interest and welfare of learners are
of first and foremost concerns, and shall deal justifiably and impartially with each of them.
 A teachers should show love, care and should be fair and committed to his students,
because, students sees teacher as their second parents.
2. Teachers should seek to develop positive relationship with pupils/ students, colleagues, parents,
school management and others in the school community that are characterized by personal, integrity
and judgement.
 ARTICLE III- Section 7. Every teacher shall maintain harmonious and pleasant personal and
official relations with other professionals, with government officials, and with the people,
individually or collectively.
 A teacher should have a positive vibe in his people around him. Even though he’s having a
bad day he/she still have to be positive to be able to have a great relationship with the
people around him.
3. Teachers should respect the privacy of others and the confidentiality of information gained in the
course of professional practice.
 ARTICLE V- Section 4. A teacher shall hold inviolate all confidential information concerning
associates and the school, and shall not divulge to anyone documents which has not been
officially released, or remove records from the files without permission
 A teacher’s responsibility is to keep the information confidential, because, it is his job to keep
all the documents and information safe and to respect the privacy of one individual.
4. Teachers should avoid conflict between their professional work and private interests which could
reasonably be deemed to impact negatively on pupils/students.
 ARTICLE IV- Section 1. Every teacher shall actively insure that teaching is the noblest
profession, and shall manifest genuine enthusiasm and pride in teaching as a noble calling.
 A teacher should manifest genuine enthusiasm and pride to in teaching so he couldn’t give
negative impact to his students.
5. Teachers should act with honesty and integrity in all aspects of their work.
 ARTICLE V- Section 1. Teacher shall, at all times, be imbued with the spirit of professional
loyalty, mutual confidence, and faith in one another, self sacrifice for the common good, and
full cooperation with colleagues. When the best interest of the learners, the school, or the
profession is at stake in any controversy, teacher shall support one another.
 A teacher should always act with honesty and integrity in all aspect of their work, because, it
is the best interest for the students to be able to learn more.
6. Teachers should uphold the reputation and standing of the profession.
 ARTICLE IV- Section 2. Every teacher shall uphold the highest possible standards of quality
education, shall make the best preparations for the career of teaching, and shall be at his
best at all times and in the practice of his profession.
 A teacher should always know what are the standards of quality of education is.
7. Teachers should comply with agreed national and school policies, procedures and guidelines which aim
to promote pupils/student education and welfare and child protection.
 ARTICLE II- Section 1. The schools are the nurseries of the future citizens of the state: each
teacher is a trustee of the cultural and educational heritage of the nation and is under
obligation to transmit to learners such heritage as well as to elevate national morality,
promote national pride, cultivate love of country, instill allegiance to the constitution and for
all duly constituted authorities, and promote obedience to the laws of the state.
 A teacher should give assurance that the students are protected and that the teachers
obligation is to transmit to learners all the knowledge should be given.
8. Teachers should apply their knowledge and experience in facilitating pupils’/students’ holistic
development.
 ARTICLE VIII- Section 9. A teacher shall ensure that conditions contribute to the maximum
development of learners are adequate, and shall extend needed assistance in preventing or
solving learner’s problems and difficulties.
 A teacher could apply their knowledge and their experience to be able to teach the students
and encourage them so that they can have a bright future.
9. Teachers should in a context of mutual respect, be open and responsive to constructive feedback
regarding their practice and if necessary, seek appropriate support, advice and guidance.
 ARTICLE IV- Section 4. Every teacher shall help, if duly authorized, to seek support from the
school, but shall not make improper misrepresentations through personal advertisements
and other questionable means.

10. Teachers should ensure that they do not practice while under the influence of any substance which
impairs their fitness to teach.
 ARTICLE V- Section 5. It shall be the responsibility of every teacher to seek correctives for
what he may appear to be an unprofessional and unethical conduct of any associates.
However, this may be done only if there is incontrovertible evidence for such conduct.
 A teacher shoud know what to do and ensure that they do not practice while under the
influence of any substance.
Activity 14. Situational Problem on Code of Ethics

Directions: Read the statement below then answer the questions the follow.
1. Mrs. Luz, the Grade Vi Chairman, collected all the observations and suggestions of the teachers in
Grade V and submitted it to the principal with her name on it. What provision of the Code of Ethics did
she violate?
 ARTICLE V- Section 2. Because, a teacher is not entitled to claim credit or work not of his own.
and shall give due credit for the work of others which he may use.
 Mrs. Luz violated this provision of the Code of Ethics, because, she claimed the work without
giving credits to the rightfully owner.

2. Mr. Salazar falls in love with one of her graduating students. What provision in the Code of Ethics has
this provision?
 ARTICLE VIII- Section 7. Because, the teacher shall exercise utmost professional discretion to
avoid scandal, gossip and preferential treatment of the learner.
 Mr. Salazar shouldn’t have fallen inlove to his one of the graduating studenst, because, it’s
prohibited in school and it can affect his job as a teacher.

3. Tutoring own’s student for a fee is prohibited. What provision in the code of Ethics says about this?
 ARTICLE VIII- Section 5. Because, a teacher shall not accept, directly or indirectly, any
remuneration from tutorials other what is authorized for such service.
 Tutoring a student is not a bad idea, because, as a teacher we should teach a students
without asking in return.

4. To augment her family’s income, Mrs. Villamor sells clothes and shoes to her co-teacher. Is her sideline
practice allowable? What provision in the Code of Ethics is linked to the situation?
 ARTICLE X- Section 1. Because, a teacher has the right to engage, directly or indirectly, in
legitimate income generation: provided that it does not relate to or adversely affect his work
as a teacher.
 Mrs. Villamor has the reason why is she having a sideline, it is to help her family out. But
she’s selling it to her co-teacher and it’s totally fine, because, according to the Article X –
Section 1 they have the right to to engage legitimate income generation.

5. Mrs. Rivera openly criticizes before her class the school policy on late comers. Which provision in the
Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers did she violate?
 ARTICLE II- Section 2. Because, every teacher or school official shall actively help carryout the
declared policies of the state, and shall take an oath to this effect.
 Mrs. Rivera shouldn’t criticize the school policy on late comers. It’s her responsibility as a
teacher to give knowledge to her students.
CASES ABOUT ABUSES

Case no.1 Teacher charged for slapping 8 students


 Article VIII- Section 8. A teacher shall not inflict corporal punishment on offending learners nor
make deductions from their scholastic ratings as a punishment for acts which are clearly not
manifestation of poor scholarship.
 A teacher doesn’t have rights to hurt a students even though it have done wrong. He should talk
to them without hurting, because, it may affect the students and also it can affect to his job.

Case no.2 A decided case on immorality of a public-school teacher


 Article VII- Section 5. School authorities concern shall ensure that public school teachers are
employed in accordance with pertinent civil service rules, and private school teachers are issued
contracts specifying the terms and conditions of their work: provided that they are given, if
qualified, subsequent permanent tenure, in accordance with existing laws.
 A teacher must know his responsibility towards his family and know how to discipline his self
since the teacher showed immorality, dishonorable conduct and unsupportive to his child, he just
proved that he is a worthless father, husband and a unprofessional.

Case no.3 Teacher faces raps for abusing students


 Article VIII- Section 8- A teacher shall not inflict corporal punishment on offending learners nor
make deductions from their scholastic ratings as a punishment for acts which are clearly not
manifestation of poor scholarship.
 A teacher is likely a second parents to the students. Students should be love, care and treat fairly.
No one deserves to be treated like that, because, it is not the job or an act of a professional
teacher.

Case no. 4 Teacher guilty of abusing student


 Article VIII- Section 7- In a situation where mutual attraction and subsequent love develop
between teacher and learner, the teacher shall exercise utmost professional discretion to avoid
scandal, gossip and preferential treatment of the learner.
 The teacher have should controlled his feelings towards to his students. He should know that
falling inlove to a students is prohibited. Every teacher should know their limitation.
