    SOME TYPES OF LEVEL

    1) Dumpy Level
    o The dumpy level is an optical surveying leveling instrument consisting a telescope tube

    firmly secured in two collars fixed by adjusting screws to the stage by the vertical spindle.
    The telescope of dumpy level can rotate only in a horizontal plane. Relative elevation of
    different points of a surveying land is determined with dumpy level.
    2) Wye Level
    o Y level or Wye-level consists y-shaped frames which supports the telescope. Telescope

    can be removed from the y-shaped supports by releasing clamp screws provided. These
    y-shaped frames are arranged to vertical spindle which helps to cause the rotation of
    telescope. Compared to dumpy level, adjustments can be rapidly tested in y- level. But
    there may be a chance of frictional wear of open parts of level.
    3) Builder's Level
    o It is considered as the optical instrument which is mainly used in building and surveying. It

    is also functional for measuring, setting, or transferring horizontal levels.


    4) Automatic Level
    o Also known as the self-aligning level. This instrument leveled automatically within a certain

    tilt range by means of a compensating device. Telescope can be tilted slightly about its
    horizontal axis with the help of its tilting screw. It is best known for its ability to provide
    consistent level accuracy more quickly than many other leveling instruments.
    5) Tilting Level
    o Tilting level consist a telescope which enabled for the horizontal rotation as well as

    rotation about 4 degree in its vertical plane. Centering of bubble can be easily done in
    this type of level. The telescope along with its bubble tube can be leveled by a
    micrometer screw without using the foot screws of the instrument.
    6) Geodetic Level
    o Geodetic leveling has been defined as leveling of a high order of accuracy, usually

    extended over large areas, to furnish accurate vertical control for surveying and mapping
    operations.
    7) Transit Level
    o The transit level is to plane surveying what the hammer is to nailing. It’s an optical

    instrument mounted on a tripod along with a built-in spirit level. In combination with tape
    rules and calibrated rods, the transit compass, as it is also known, allows its user to
    determine the relative position of points, lines, and objects.
    8) Laser Level
    o Laser level is a control tool consisting of a rotating laser beam projector that can be

    affixed to a tripod. The tool is leveled according to the accuracy of the device and
    projects a fixed red or green beam in a plane about the horizontal and/or vertical axis.
