INTRODUCTION
The Philippines is the thirteenth most populated country in the world. It has three major
island groups: Luzon, the largest island where the capital is located; Visayas, known for its fine
beaches and idyllic coves; Mindanao, where exotic forest make it an irresistible haven for nature
lovers. The country's capital of Metro Manila has a population of well over ten million people.
Eleven languages and 87 dialects are spoken in the country. Due to early colonization by the
Spanish, the Philippines is a majority Roman Catholic nation. The Philippines has a population of
more than 90 million people and an annual growth rate around 2%. The Republic of the
Philippines is a sprawling archipelago set in the western Pacific Ocean. It consists of 7,107 tropical
islands on the Western rim of the Pacific Ocean. The inhabited portions are densely populated.
The Philippines is an incredibly diverse nation in terms of language, religion, ethnicity and
also geography. Ethnic and religious fault-lines that run through the country continue to produce a
state of constant, low-level civil war between north and south. Beautiful and fractious, the
Philippines is one of the most interesting countries in Asia.
Economic growth is one of the best ways to bring in more investors into any country. More
investors mean more businesses, which generates more jobs, which will then contribute to a
country’s economic growth. Construction, Manufacturing, Tourism, and Services are the top
growing industries in the Philippines.

2008 global economic crisis, there has been steady economic growth in the recent years. However,
there are certain economic problems that cannot be ignored. The following sections list out some
of the economic problems of the Philippines.
1. Over Dependence
Within an economy, if an industry is dependent upon the value of one raw material to the point
that the price of that material drops, it could cause serious problems within that economy. Within a
business, one project may not get the finances it needs unless another project is financially
successful. Within an economy, if an industry is dependent.
It took place when the Philippine governments struggled to react in the face of the industrial
and labor relocations that recognize the foundations of the new economy were no longer locally or
nationally based, but were now global. Likewise, private firms had to adapt by restructuring their
production systems to consider the most effective and efficient means of doing business in a global
market.

Misplaced austerity measures and an exaggerated concern about credit ratings contracts the
economy, reduces demand and undermines future growth. The proposed public private
partnerships (PPPs) are poor substitute to real investment and public expenditure, because the
former are majority driven by short-term profit while the latter play a vital role to create
development.
Practicing fiscal authority just to get favorable credit ratings can be counterproductive. The
Aquino administration, in 2011, pursued fiscal austerity and spent 2.1% less in the first 11 months
than it did in the same period last year. This along with increased revenues brought down the fiscal
deficit and subsequently international credit rating agencies Standard and Poor's, Moody's and
Fitch upgraded the country's credit ratings and outlooks. In 2011 the government cut spending on
economic services, including infrastructure, in the same vein did not fill in for shortfalls in
education, health and housing sectors. As a result, over the first three quarters of 2011, income
from public construction contracted by about 46% whereas government consumption reduced by a
mere 1.7% in comparison to the same period last year. It is indicated in the Administrative order
no. 6 that Philippines is directed the continued adaption of austerity measures in the government
where it was issued in order to meet the country’s fiscal target, maintain the macroeconomic
stability, improve investors’ confidence, and for the measures for purposes of reducing expenses

and channeling its scarce resources, in order to attain a sound budget policy and ensure a balanced
budget.
3. Import-Export Imbalance
The import-export Imbalance is a problem long time ago the imbalance of import-export goods
is due to the industrialized neighboring countries, Philippine has nothing to do to compete with
them because of their low cost labors and raw materials. Agricultural products and aqua cultured
products are the possible advantages of Philippine in relations of export because of the country's
huge water premises and also human resource for foreign employment. Import-export imbalance
can affect our local economy, because if the importer buys good from outside the country more
than what is needed it will crash the local producers.
The negative trade is heavy and only counterbalanced by the service account surplus. Over the
last two decades, Philippine exports have shifted from commodity- based products to
manufactured goods. In the midst of the current global economic recession, the exports of
electronics, garments and textiles are yet to reach a level of import neutralization.

4. Scarcity of Resources
Scarcity is the fundamental economic problem of having humans who have unlimited wants
and needs in a world of limited resources. It states that society has insufficient productive
resources to fulfill all human wants and needs.
The Philippines is one of many countries in which ecological treatment has occurred. High
rates of population growth in the Philippines over 2 percent per year that have made cropland
relatively scarce in the fertile lowlands, forcing many farmers to move into the less productive
uplands. This migration was also encouraged by the fact that the farmers or land ownership in the
lowlands was concentrated in the hands of a few elite landholders. As the lowland to upland
migration proceeded, rising new land in the ecologically fragile uplands has led to erosion and
ecological degradation, further shrinking the supply of available cropland.

5. Poverty
Poverty is the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money.
Absolute poverty or destitution refers to the deprivation of basic human needs, which commonly
includes food, water, sanitation, clothing, shelter, health care and education. Relative poverty is
defined contextually as economic inequality in location or society in which people live.
Philippine is one of the country that has a high rate of poverty. Even though Philippines is a
fast-growing economy, there's been just a minor decline in the incidence of poverty. Poverty is
very much linked to unemployment. Philippines is low to moderate economic growth for the past
40 years and has a low growth elasticity of poverty reduction. It has a weakness in employment
generation and the quality of jobs generated in Philippine failed to fully develop the agriculture
sector. The country’s high inflation during crisis periods has a large effect to its people. The high
levels of population growth is one of the reasons why there a poverty. The high and persistent
levels of inequality (incomes and assets), which dampen the positive impacts of economic
expansion of the country. And also recurrent shocks and exposure to risks such as economic crisis,
conflicts, natural disasters and environmental poverty.

6. Technology
Technology and human life cannot be separated; society has a cyclical co-dependence on
technology. We use technology; depend on technology in our daily life and our needs and demands
for technology keep on rising. Humans use technology to travel, to communicate, to learn, to do
business and to live in comfort. However, technology has also caused us concerns. Its poor
application has resulted in the pollution of the environment and it has also caused a serious threat
to our lives and society. This calls for the proper use of technology. The biggest challenge facing
people is to determine the type of future we need to have and then create relevant technologies
which will simplify the way we do things.
Philippine country has lack of technology that could help furnish goods found in natural
resources. Mobile technology offers extensive help on various forms of social and economic
development. Technological innovation and Information Communication Technologies (ICTs)
represent a way for developing world nations to foster economic development, improve levels of
education and training, as well as address gender issues within society. Spending money to simply
increase the amount of capital in an economy is not the only way to increase productivity.
Increases in the quality of capital can also affect growth. The major way the quality of capital is
increased is through technological progress, the fruit of research and development. Technological
advances can allow a given unit of capital to enable a given unit of labor to increase production.

This increase is contrasted to the increase created by simply enlarging capital expenditures. In the
latter case, a given unit of labor has more capital to work with and can thus produce more output;
while in the former case a given unit of labor can produce more output with a given unit of capital.
7. Innovation
8. Lack of Education
Lack of Education is the greatest problem affecting our country now a days. It is a very
huge issue that covers a lot. It can lead to a low standard of a person. Lack of educational facilities
affects this issue. Since if we does not have enough facilities to study, how an individual can be
able to learn. We must make a solution in this problem by simply increasing the number of
technical vocational schools in our country and by gradually adding facilities, tools, and materials
to make education easier and accessible to the youth of the nation. Because according to our
national hero, youth is the key of the nation, and that will only be possible if they will receive the
proper and right education they needed.
There are large-scale shortages of facilities across Philippine public schools. These include
classrooms, teachers, desks and chairs, textbooks, and audio-video materials. According to 2003
Department of Education Undersecretary Juan Miguel Luz, reportedly over 17 million students are
enrolled in Philippine public schools, and at an annual population growth rate of 2.3 percent, about
1.7 million babies are born every year which means that in a few years time, more individuals will
assert ownership over their share of the (limited) educational provisions. To sum it up, there are
too many students and too little resources. Albeit the claims the government makes on increasing
the allocated budget for education, there is a prevalent difficulty the public school system faces
with regard to shortages. Furthermore, state universities and colleges gradually raise tuition so as

to have a means of purchasing facilities, thus making tertiary education difficult to access or more
often than not, inaccessible to the poor.
9. Unemployment
Unemployment is one of the effects of lack of education. The official unemployment figures
for the Philippines in 2011 are among the worst in Asia, higher than its South-East Asian
neighbors and according to the International Labor Organization the country is among the worst
one fourth in the in the world in terms of unemployment rates. Despite rapid economic growth in
the Philippines in recent years, unemployment remains a persistent problem for the sprawling
Southeast Asian nation of more than 100 million people. Since 2010, unemployment has fallen. It
shows that the rate was 6.4 percent in the second quarter of this year, down from 7 per cent a year
earlier. But progress has been uneven and the Philippines still has one of the highest rates of
unemployment in the ASEAN region.
In 2012, 10 million Filipinos were either unemployed (three million) or underemployed (seven
million). In October 2013, unemployment rate was 6.5% in comparison to 6.8% in 2012.
According to the Labor Force Survey, the unemployment rate was 6% and 6.6% in October 2014
and January 2015, respectively.
Only one-fourth of the Filipinos that enter the labor force are able to find good jobs in the
country, and the rest of them find jobs overseas, leave the labor force, or end up becoming

2. Innovation
Innovation is another economic problem in our country wherein Philippines must have
improvement or modernization by developing infrastructure. Yazaki- Torres Manufacturing
Incorporated can address this problem through contributing higher tax to the government that will
serve as the fund for different infrastructure to be establish all over our country. Since Yazaki-
Torres is a big company, the tax they pay is higher than other companies. This company have also
established a name in our economy which means it was really earning a lot of profit and was too
impossible to be bankrupt. Because the products they are producing or manufacturing will always
be in demand to the people especially to those car companies, wherein they mostly supply their
finished products. Therefore Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing Incorporated is one of the company
who was contributing more in continuously increasing the growth of our economy. The tax they
are paying to the government will be used to develop or establish infrastructure, which are the
facilities, structures, equipment, services and institutions that are essential to the economy and
quality of life of a nation, region or city. Since foreign investors look up to this as their basis in
putting a business in our country.
3. Unemployment
Unemployment is consider one of the economic problem in the Philippines wherein most of the
people do not have work or any source of income. Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing Incorporated is a
company that requires man power that is continuously growing and increasing as time goes by
which means this company give opportunity to the people who did not have a chance to finish
college. Since what they require in hiring is more on the skills and willingness of an applicant to
learn than the knowledge itself. This is why majority of the employees of Yazaki- Torres
Manufacturing Incorporated are those who were only able to finish the secondary education. In
terms of position, area leaders outnumbered the other position in the organization. This company
also implement a community-based hiring system, and also promote youth employability through
barangay assistance training program.

4. Lack of Education
One of the economic problem in our country is Lack of Education wherein Philippines do not
have sufficient public schools with conducive facilities and equipment that can support the
education here in our country. It is also the key role of poverty in the Philippines. Yazaki-Torres
Manufacturing Incorporated do not directly address the lack of education. But instead they just
precisely focus on giving privilege to their employees who are loyal and have long been working
to them. This was done through giving partial scholarship to the children of their employees who
are studying in Lyceum of the Philippines- University, since this school was one of their sister
company. Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing Incorporated provide training, seminars, and orientation
to their newly hired an employees. This was been conducted in able for the employees to acquire
the different skill they will be needing in their work proper. The employees were trained well to be
fit in the kind of industry they have. Some of the trainings they provide is also considered as
education once it was under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority or the
TESDA. Since this is a government agency tasked to manage and supervise technical education
and skills development (TESDA) in the Philippines.
5. Technology
One of the economic problem in the Philippines is Technology wherein our country do not
have much advanced and modernized technology nowadays. Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing
Incorporated can somehow address this through the products they are offering and the machineries
and equipments they are using in manufacturing or turning raw materials into finished goods.
Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing Incorporated uses advanced technology to fasten produce the
maximize number of products they can or need in their operations or to meet their quota for a
specific time. Since this company is more on the use of technology that they need in order to have
good quality of products. It is very important for them to use technology as their primary tools to
produce the products and services they have. As a trusted company, they continued to make
products that have good quality standards. Some of their products are in line with the advance
technology people were living today. They produced products that will make the life of people
easier by simply using the technology. In terms of how they produce their product upon on how

they can deliver it in their customers. Since they want their products to be better than their
competitors and be one of the manufacturer of good quality product in the industry. Yazaki Torres
Manufacturing Incorporated make an edge to other companies who do not use the technology they
have.
6. Poverty
Poverty is one of the economic problem in our country in which most people lacks a usual or
socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions. Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing
Incorporated do not directly address this economic problem instead it is the jobs or employment
they are offering to the people that help to reduce the poverty rate here in the Philippines. Since
when people started to have work, they will be able to have and afford the necessary things they
need for their everyday living. Yazaki Torres Manufacturing Incorporated can give them the right
salary they need to buy their basic needs like foods, clothes, and shelter. They can even afford
things beyond their basic needs which are the luxury things. It can even give their children the
things they need like being able to bring their children in school and have the right education. All
of these can be possible if they are patient enough to work hard for their future. Yazaki-Torres
Manufacturing Incorporated are given a chance to help those people indeed so that they can give
their families a good and better life to grow in. Since people who apply and get a job can have
more benefits from working. Therefore this company have contributed major benefits for the
people, specifically those who are in the lowest level of life standards or those people who are in
the state of extreme poverty.
Imbalance in our country. It is clearly stated how this company can contribute in addressing some
of the economic problems in the Philippines.
Recommendations
To the government
The government can establish more public schools, since it is one of the things that the
government should prioritize nowadays. These public schools are the foundation or starting point
of an individual to have a good job that will become source in order to provide their basic needs.
The government can use their strong political will to continue supporting the K to 12 program
effective to the Philippines. Since the Philippines are starting to learn about the K12 program they
can find solutions for pressing issues. The government may believe and trust that the K to 12
program is the potent instrument as they soar towards the advantages that other countries has. To
the reduction of poverty the researchers believe that government can use K to 12 Program to give
equal dignity for all. After Senior High School, the students will be employable and this equal
opportunity for work shows a great sense of dignity in our society. The government can influence
their people or convince them that K to 12 program gives the learners enough skills for work and
to be able to help out in their own basic needs and be successful in life.
The government can develop and build more infrastructures in the country that will help in
improving our country wherein they can encourage more foreign investors to invest their different
business in our country by marketing the infrastructure we have. The Philippines limits foreign
ownership to 40 percent in the following industries: manufacturing of explosives, firearms,
military hardware, and massage clinics. They may somehow revise the law when it comes to the
percentage of the profit that the foreign investors will have by giving more shares to the foreign
investors. Since when their shares increases as expected 2%, many foreign investors will invest in
the country. This changes would not have a large impact in the economy because the added share
that will be given to the foreign investors will be equivalent the higher number of investors that
will eventually invest in our country. The Philippines may reduce the amount of shares they have,
but they can encouraged more foreign investors to invest in the country. The government can open

the Philippine markets to world commerce, import liberalization policy, lifting of protectionist
policies, and adherence to the idea of globalization.
To Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing Incorporated
Yazaki- Torres Manufacturing Incorporated can do more things to help improving our
economy as well as growing their company. As people know, this company hires a lot of people in
their production and this give way for them to somehow give trainings to the out youth then
eventually hire them as their new employees equipped with knowledge and skills learn from their
trainings and seminars. This company can improve their production proper through adding more
advanced technology in their machineries and equipment to make the workload easier for the
employees. Since one of the major problem on this company is a lot of employees are continuously
leaving or resigning on the company due to the difficulty on their work. This problem is what
Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing Incorporated can address and prioritize by giving higher salary to
those employees who do well on their performance, and even those employees who have perfect
attendance with consecutively no tardiness. They can give incentives to these employees like
giving them extra allowance or bonus to motivate their employees to work harder. This company
can somehow improve their production proper through upgrading their machineries and
equipment. In this way, they will be able to have a single machine that is multi functioning and can
perform several processes. Through this, the use for a number of machineries will be lessen and
the production proper will be maximized.
In order for the company to give major contributions, they can keep the good quality of
products to be trusted here in the Philippines and even in other countries. They can know the ways
and strategies on how to respond to the threats of global warming and climate change. They can
furthermore develop their import and export of goods to other countries to be one of the leading
and known company. Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing Incorporated may target higher quality,
reliability and shorter delivery times as one of the strategies that can pursue and which can help to
arrest the decline in employment in these sectors and fastened the deliveries of goods.

To the Society
Growing the economy of the Philippines will not be possible without the help and
cooperation of the people among the different societies all over the country. Since the
improvement and betterment of an economy will be depending on the people living on it or
constitute a particular country. It means that every Filipino should be responsible enough to do
their duties and responsibilities as individual member of the Philippines, since they are the people
who take action and the people that were actually behind the improvement or could be the
deterioration of our country. Also the people who have power and position must be responsible on
focusing not only to the infrastructures in the country but also to the people of the country. The
government may have a strong political will in order to help people by providing enough works to
the unemployed person; they must increase the occupational and geographical mobility of labor,
launch of new empowerment programs and maintain a sufficiently high level of demand to create
enough new jobs. Ensuring access to basic education, avoid laziness and be creative, positive and
competitive. In order to increase our economic growth, different sectors, firms, societies, or
individuals must work hand on hand to achieve the responsibilities that will be needed in making
our economy better than before.
