Case: 1
The moral issue in this case in the story is about the owner’s egocentricity or being concerned
with himself rather than the common good of the people living in a community. As a
responsible business owner you are accountable for whatever will happen towards your
customer. Thus, you should do what is universally right. As a human we are different towards
any other species because of our ability to think and weigh what is right and wrong or The
“Moral Sense” in us In this case this is viewed as Moral Subjectivism which means that the
owner may have different moral views among others that will sooner or later result on
subjective morality “what is good for one person may be bad for another”.
If I were Bartolome, I’d rather lost my job and tell them what happened than to let them think
that I intentionally poisoned them (if ever they die because of it).It would be very unrealistic
but I shall make a stand. And in this scenario come’s Normative Ethics that involves moral
judgment based on ethical norm or theory. I, along my conscience know what I should do. But
I do understand my Boss for this is an Ethical Relativism that shows, wherein we have
different backgrounds, different convictions different perspective with different moral value of
an action but both of us can be right. He can be right for the fact that he is protecting the
business by not creating a chaos but I may be right by the fact that people should know the
truth. But then again ethics is an unwritten laws written in the hearts of man. Good business
doesn’t mean good ethics, but living and having a business that is governing a good business
ethics is a nice thing to have.
