Big Data
Technology is expanding rapidly in the business world in the past decades. As for the accounting
profession, it is going through multiple changes and significant transformation by eliminating the
traditional accounting methods and software to be replaced with newer recent technology that
would be more beneficial to the profession. Therefore, in order to stay competitive in the
industry, large accounting firms are currently implementing technologies such as Big Data into
their business models that we will be discussing for this part of the assignment.
In recent years, there has been a lot of talks about big data. However, what does big data
really mean in practice for the accounting and auditing profession? (ICAEW, 2019) As we know,
businesses require data and information to assist them in the decision-making and manage the
daily operations of the company. The traditional data processing software is becoming inefficient
and ineffective these days in terms of the providing of data and information for the users.
Therefore, big data is there to deal with the data sets which are too big or difficult to be solved
by the traditional data processing software. Big data also allows accountants and auditors to
cultivate their skills and improve the auditing skills with the help of the software that will assist
in their daily operation duties.
