After Juliet, by Scottish playwright Sharman Macdonald and

developed with the Royal National Theatre,
explores the world of Romeo and Juliet after their deaths.

The play centers on Rosaline, Juliet’s cousin and Romeo’s ex-

flame. Surrounding her are the many other young Capulets
who live on, as well as the Montagues - Benvolio, Romeo’s
best friend, and Valentine, Mercutio’s twin brother. The two
sides seem polarized once more with increasing violence,
need for revenge, and doomed loves in turmoil. It is up to
the young people of After Juliet to decide whether the cycle
of violence and prejudice will continue or will their world
shift towards peace and new beginnings.

MONTAGUES
A tense truce holds between the Capulets
and the Montagues after the deaths of ■ Benvolio, Romeo’s best friend and cousin
Romeo and Juliet. A trial is being held to
determine the fates of Friar lawrence, the ■ Valentine, Mercutio’s twin brother
apothecary, juliet’s nurse, Angelica, and CAPULETS
romeo’s servant, peter.
■ Rosaline, Juliet’s cousin
Benvolio, Romeo's best friend, is in love
with Rosaline, Juliet's cousin; but Rosaline ■ Bianca, Juliet’s cousin
is bent on revenge. she is Broken hearted ■ Helena, Bianca’s sister, Juliet’s cousin
and bitter from romeo’s death and juliet’s
betrayal. ■ Rhona, Juliet’s cousin from abroad

Valentine, mercutio’s twin brother and ■ Alice, Juliet’s cousin

benvolio’s friend, utterly opposes the ■ Livia, Rosaline’s half-sister, Juliet’s cousin
match and is out for revenge as well.

The other members of the capulet family are
all waiting to see what their future holds. ■ Lorenzo, FRIEND TO GIANNI
Helena soothes Bianca through her dreams ■ Gianni, friend to Lorenzo
and fears. With Rhona’s help Alice plans
on hooking petruchio and marrying him. ■ Petruchio, Tybalt’s brother
Livia tries to convince Rosaline of
Benvolios good intentions. Lorenzo and NARRATOR & MUSICIAN
gianni are left with nothing to do and ■ THE puppeteer
waiting to prove themselves.
