Fuente: SENA

Write a report about a coming sport event you like. It can be a local or an
international event. Before writing the report you need to investigate about it.

Consider the following questions for your report:

• When and where will the event take place?

• How many people are expected to attend it?
• What is the event about?
• How is the host country / city preparing to celebrate the event?
• How many teams / Athletes will take part in the competition?
• Are there new venues or accommodation facilities being built for the event?
• Why are you interested in this event?
• Why should people attend or follow the event?

Aspects to consider when writing the report:

• Include ideas and vocabulary related to sports learned in the study material.
In the report, underline the ideas included. Include at least 3 ideas.
• Use adverbial clauses in the report. Use at least 3 examples from each
category (time, contrast and condition).
• Use connectors and punctuation.
Cali Word Games 2013

From July 25, 2013 to August 4, 2013, the IX edition of the World Games was
held in the city of Cali and for the first time in any Latin American city.

This event, which takes place every four years, contemplates competition in
sports that, despite being recognized by the International Olympic Committee,
are not part of the Olympic Games. Before, Cali tried to host but only
succeeded until this year. 36 sports disciplines participated in this version and
the Valle department welcomed more than 3,500 athletes from more than one
hundred nationalities for its development.

This event is developed every four years and it is the International Association
of the World Games, in charge of carrying them out. This version also coincided
with the city's 477th anniversary. For the choice of this city, it was also taken
into account that it had hosted the Pan American Games in 1971 and the U-20
World Cup in 2011.

As soon as it became known that Cali would be the headquarters, the

Colombian Government at the head of Coldeportes invested a sum of more
than 100 billion pesos, which was used to adapt sports venues and
infrastructure.

The mascot of the games was a design inspired by the diversity of birds in the
country and in particular a fairly traditional one from the region known as
Bichofué.

Before the event ended, it happened that days after the competitions opened,
the athletes and organizers realized a mistake in the medals, since instead of
having the inscription "World Games", the word written on them was "Word". In
this way the medals did not refer to the event but to the literal translation of
"Play on Words".

While the error went unnoticed by the organization's representatives, as well as

by suppliers and managers, it caused a stir among athletes and the media.

The medals were arranged before the culmination of the event and between
shame and laughter, this detail was one for which this version of the World
Games remained in immortality.
