    esde su aparición en 194 7, Al filo del agua de Agustín Yá-

    D ñez fue una novela decisiva para la Literatura Mexicana


    Contemporánea. La óptica escogida se conc.entra en un es-
    pacio acotado de provincia, que pareciera un tanto al margen de la
    historia. El punto de vista deviene intensivo, y revela las contradic-
    ciones en el interior de los personajes y sus sistemas de relaciones.
    Logra así, Yáñez, convocar en el breve espacio el mundo inme-
    diato y la incidencia en éste del contexto sociohistórico amplio, a
    nivel nacional. La tensión creciente, característica del periodo re-
    volucionario, corresponde a la tensión creciente en la vida de los
    personajes. La escritura guarda una correspondencia precisa con su
    objetivo, y va modelando la atmósfera sin desbordar los límites de la
    propia óptica.
    Cincuenta años después, la novela legitima su importancia para el
    lector actual. Las diversas lecturas críticas de este libro aportan nue-
    vos acercamientos y perspectivas inéditas de lectura. Se confirma
    enriquecidamen te el valor literario de Al filo del agua que, sin du-
    da, podemos considerar un clásico de las Letras Mexicanas, con am-
    plia repercusión en la Literatura Hispanoamericana (YJB).
