    Attempt all the questions.

    1. a) State Newton's second law of motion. Also, prove the relation F = ma 9


    and write the S.I unit of force from this law.
    b) Find out the angle between two forces of equal magnitude such that

    their resultant is one third as much as either of the original forces.
    2. a) What do you mean by energy? Show that the total mechanical energy 9
    of a body is conserved, when it moves under the action of the
    gravitational field.

    b) A car has initial velocity of 36 km/h .It is accelerated at 2 m/s.
    calculate the final velocity and the distance covered after 3 second.
    3. a) Explain SHM. Derive an expression for the velocity and the 9
    acceleration of a body executing SHM
    OR
    Explain moment of inertia of a rigid body. Give its dimensional formula
    and S.I units.
    b) A bob of simple pendulum of mass of 1 gram is oscillating with a
    frequency of 5Hz and amplitude 3cm. Find the kinetic energy in the 6
    lowest position.
    4. a) State and explain Gauss's theorem, use it to determine the field 9
    outside a charged sphere.
    b) A capacitor charged from a 50 V d c supply is discharged across a

    charge measuring instrument and found to have carried a charge of
    10 µC . What was the capacitance of the capacitor and how much
    energy was stored on it?
    5. a) Define resistance, resistivity and conductivity in an electric circuit ? 9
    Also, derive the current density in terms of drift velocity.

    Define the terms Lateral shift and critical angle. What are the conditions
    for total internal reflection?
    b) A wire of resistance 10 Ω is drawn out so that its length is doubled

    b) Calculate refractive index of a prism, if the angle of prism is 60 o and
