    2017 BILL GREEN MENTORSHIP PROGRAM AUDITION APPLICATION


    AUDITION: SATURDAY, January 14, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Musicians’ Union Local #47
    817 No. Vine Street, Hollywood, CA (Between Santa Monica and Melrose Blvd.)

    APPLICATION DEADLINE: January 11, 2017 – AUDITIONS LIMITED-Apply Early!

    PROGRAM OUTLINE: The musical focus of this 8-week program will explore: Contemporary Ensemble Concepts,
    Improvisation Skills and Arranging Techniques.
     Music will include Jazz Standards, Blues, and Latin Rhythms
     Mentors are renowned Jazz Musicians/Educators

    SCHOLARSHIP AWARD BENEFITS


     Ten hours of private instruction with professional Jazz musicians- One or Two-Hour Lessons for 10 Hours Total
     Four 5-hour Saturday workshops
     A 3-hour professional recording session and a CD of the recording, plus a live performance.

    AUDITION REQUIREMENTS – Please READ CAREFULLY


    Maximum applicant age is 20 years old. You must know all major scales and two-octave chromatic scales, have sight-
    reading skills, play the blues, and play one song of your choice. Drummers must demonstrate swing, ballad and Latin
    rhythms. Applicants, please choose a “standard” tune or jazz “standard,” in addition to a 12-bar blues. Choose Ellington,
    Gershwin, Mancini, Horace Silver, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin etc. If you need song suggestions, contact Larry Hathaway. Be
    able to perform the song, (does not need to be memorized). Be able to improvise on it. Bring three extra copies of the
    lead sheet for the rhythm section who will accompany you. Also, please be prepared to play a 12-bar blues tune and
    improvise on it in the key of your choosing. If you have a lead sheet for the blues tune, please bring three extra lead sheets
    for that too.

    Students MUST Attend ALL Workshops – Private Lessons must be completed before March 18
