Lesson No. 1: Review of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design Using Logo Design
Code A6EL-Ia: Realizes that art processes, elements and principles still apply even the
use of technologies
Activity Sheet
Think Creatively
One of the most important considerations for logo design is the color palette. This is not a
superficial decision, color carries meanings and communicates ideas.
WORK ON ART
Activity 1- Logo Design Making
Materials: Laptop/ Desktop PC
Software: Inkscape or MS Paint
Read and Understand the direction.
1. Open the software Inkscape or MS Paint.
2. Draw a simple logo design. (You can use the shapes under the insert tool
bar).
Note: Be specific of what logo design student will do.
3. Be sure the elements and principles of arts were presents.
4. Finished your artwork on time.
Note: Refer to the logos below for inspiration, but pupils are encouraged to make their
own design.
CRAFT CREATIVENESS
Activity 2- Alternative
Alternative for Activity 1: Logo Design Making
Materials: graphing paper, pencil, ruler, coloring materials (colored pens and pencils are good
but crayons and water medium can also be used)
* In the absence of a graphing paper, you may let your students draw their own grid
squares (suggested size per grid box is 1 x 1 cm) using their pencil and ruler on a bond
paper
Read, understand and follow the directions.
1. Imagine a symbol or logo you want to make.
2. Using a pencil draw your work on a Graphing Paper.
3. Remember the Simple Rules in making a Pixel Art, start coloring each box of the
graphing paper with the color of your choice. One box, one color. There are no half
colored boxes.
4. Be sure the elements and principles of arts were presents.
5. Explain the logo that you have made.
6. Finished your artwork on time.
Example:
Design is like art, but it is art with a purpose in mind. This purpose can be the creation of a
product that we use or a plan or sketch that we intend to do. Design has commercial value in them
that is important in business and industry.

Work on Art
ASCII art is a graphic design technique that uses computers for presentation and consists of
pictures pieced together different letters and symbols from the computer and cellphones. The term is also
loosely used to refer to text-based visual art in general.

<0{{{><
Procedure:
1. Using only letters and symbols found on your computer software (MS Word, MS Excel, Ms
Powerpoint, etc), cellphone or tablet, create any image of your choice.
2. If you are using a computer software, play with different sizes or font presentation (bold or italics) to
create varying images of the same design.
If you are using your cellphone, fill-up the screen with letters or symbols and leave-out spaces to
create your image like the Albert Einstein image above.
If you are having a hard time looking for an inspiration, why not create an ASCII art of your name?
What is important is you can create an art using the technology that you have in your hand.
Craft Creativeness
If having a computer, cellphone or tablet, may serve as a challenge, you may get the simple
concept of computer art through pixel art.
A pixel is the basic unit of a computer graphics. It is made up of only one shape, a square, and one
specific color. Combining all pixels can create powerful images of art and even film.
2. Fill in the boxes with the color of your choice to create the image of your design.
If there are no available pieces of graphing paper. You may create the boxes using a ruler
and a pencil.
Set the box size to a comfortable measurement unit: 10 mm or 1 cm and then follow the
given instructions above.
Another alternative activity that still follow the ASCII Art is using your own hand writing to
draw an image of your choice. However, instead of straight lines, you are only limited to the entire
Alphabet, Numbers and only these following symbols ( ) , + : - > < ? / = @ # * ^ { } [ ] \

Design is the conceptualization and creation of new things like books, posters, products, places,
signs, systems, services, furniture, websites, and more. It is like very much like art but it is art with a
purpose in mind. This purpose is often associated with commercial value of a concept or a creation since
these things are often made to be sold and use. Thus, it must be well-thought off, well-made and attractive
that its users will notice it and buy it. Commercial art follows the concept of design.
Have you noted the similarities and the distinct difference of Art and Design?
The creation of an art work needs to be well-thought of, well-made and attractive so that other
people will appreciate it and buy it. It is like design as defined above but the difference is the product will be
used after it is bought while an art work remains only to be appreciated and not used. Another similarity
worth knowing is that since design is like art, it also follows the same elements and principles. We already
learned that by properly using these elements and principles of art, we can create works of art that will that
have better aesthetics or beauty in them. Again, the only added value in design compared to art is its
purpose and use.
Activity Sheet
(Week 3)
The art of making a good hand drawn logo design starts with sketches of the style you
may want to do before executing the design in a more accurate manner using a ruler,
a compass for round shapes, and other measuring tools.
Lines play the most vital part of the design as it forms the letter and shape, but also
the way it is drawn has a bearing to the message your logo is showing. Thick lines
make the logo appear closer and create strong visual impact, but may be too heavy for
the eyes. Thin lines on the other hand make the logo appear from behind create
details that may be pleasing to the eyes but may be too much that the logo gets lost
with the details. As mentioned, in creating the perfect logo: less is more.
Materials: Laptop/desktop
Materials: paper, pencil, sign pen/colored pen, permanent marker and any coloring media
Using your pencil, create the font that you like. You may follow a template of letters
or create your own style but consider the spaces between your letters and the visual
balance of your free handwork. Don’t worry if you drew may pencil guidelines as you will be
erasing it after you have inked your work.
Use your sign pen or colored pen to enhance your line. You may also add a few
more details with your sign pen. If you create a mistake you may cover it with a correction
tape or masking fluid
It will be best that you explain your work to your teacher and classmates why the
logo you did reflects who you are. Why did you use that kind of font and color. If there are
images, what do they symbolize?
A logo can give your company an easily recognized visual symbol and
may give the impression of the quality that your company is promoting. A
picture is indeed worth a thousand words. The use of contrast between the
space (positive and negative) color (dark and light) and shape (big and
small), conveys meanings and visual representation.
Remind the pupils to keep their work and apply the principles of
contrast.
Materials: pencils, oslo paper, colored pencils, rulers, and sample logo
illustrations
1. Redo your logo but this time apply proper measurement and distance
and balance in your drawing using measuring tools.
2. Ink your work by covering all pencil marks on the shape. Erase
guidelines or unnecessary lines.
3. Color or paint your work using any color media you have.

Activity Sheet
(Week 5)
Activity 2- Alternative
Alternative for Activity 5: Comic strip Making
Materials: Long bond paper, ruler, pencil, sign pens, technical pens
and coloring medium
A comic strip is a sequence of drawings in boxes that tell an
amusing story; typically printed in a newspaper or comic book, but
now can also be seen in web pages.
Do the following:
1. Look for typical knock-knock jokes, or “hirit” or “hugot” jokes
you want to use for your comic strip. For this activity, human
or non-human characters can be used and what is it, is a free
art style. However, a strict compliance must be made in doing
the comic strip.
2. The panels must measure 3 x 9 in. and the letters should be
inside the letter box. The letters should be readable and the
panels are measured consistently.
3. Divide the rectangle into 3 boxes measuring 3 x 3 in.
4. Ink and color your work.
(Note: A more professional approach is giving at least a gap
of 0 .5 cm from one box to the other. Thus, the length is
more than 9 inches. This gap is called white space that aids
in the readability of the comic strip.)
5. Follow the steps done in lessons 3 and 4 in terms of drawing,
inking and coloring.
7. Finish your artwork on time.
Activity 6:
Materials: laptop, desktop, Inkscape application, paint application on
your laptop/desktop
a. Select a gender template you like and turn it into your own
superhero.
b. Apply the draw, ink, and paint technique.
c. Create a background (optional).
d. Give a name to your superhero and explain his/her powers.
A one page comic book story is a sequential panel series that tells a story. The
number of panels will depend on the how the artist works on the given text.
For this activity, the pupil may look into a short story or poem or a portion of a
bigger story that they want to illustrate.
The first part is to create a rough sketch of a story board on how to lay-out the
series of panels and the how the text will be divided. The lay-out should consider
the S-type sequence as it is the natural flow on how people read (see the sample
above).
After they finalize their lay-out, using the measuring tools and drawing materials,
they will recreate their story board into the ½ cartolina that will serve as their
formal comic book page. They will use their pencils first then ink and end by
coloring their work. Lines for the panels should consistently be thicker and the
inclusion of the title panel should be placed as well.
Another alternative for this activity is cutting pieces of paper into the shape and
appropriate size of their panels before pasting them on their ½ cartolina.
The incorporation of lines, shapes, colors, texture, contrast and emphasis must
be used as quality ingredients in an artwork to make your artwork great. The elements
must be used as quality ingredients in an artwork.
Alternative Activity : From comic magazine, comic strips and other sources
Materials: ½ cartolina, bond paper for storyboard sketches, pencil, sign pens and
coloring media
